Every FPS from world war 2 is always about the Brits, the Americans and the Russians, over and over and over again. I think we need to start making Axis FPS.

Umm....sure? No? I don't know...?

I'd think I'd rather focus more on Modern Warfare right now though...it seems to work.

Though, I'd think it'd be kind of nice to play as the Sonderkommando Elbe. Look it up if you're that curious.

Oh, wouldn't THAT be a load of controversy. Sorry, but I can't see the media going to easy on a game where you're killing the "good guys", and possibly jews as well. Of course there is that certain scene in MW2 which is a small equivalence *cough cough*

It would be fun I guess, but I'm a little tired of WWII games now TBH...

I personally would love to see a WWII FPS where you played as a German soldier in the actual single player campaign, instead of only in the multiplayer like most WWII FPS games. I wouldn't mind even seeing a game that took place in an alternative reality where the Germans won, as well.

Red Orchestra 2 Heroes of Stalingrad will allow you to play through a German campaign.

The new Red Orchestra game will feature a German campaign. I believe it's going to be called Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad but release date and platform haven't been announced yet. But Tripwire Interactive has always been pretty cool so...

I?ve always wondered if a German point of view WW2 shooter would work I mean it certainly would be different and it could work with a good story. But like a few others I?m kind of burned out on WW2 games right now. The next and maybe last WW2 era game I may buy is going to be the ?Saboteur? but this idea has at lease peaked my interest somewhat.

How about we just drop the world war nazi thing. It's over done. can't someone think of an army game that doesn't have nazi's in it? or nazi zombies for that matter?

The truth is it probably wouldn't sell. It's illegal to put Nazi iconography in games in Germany anyway, so there goes an entire market, and most people wouldn't like the idea of playing the 'villains'.

Great idea, especially if it takes WW2 as seriously as Hogan?s Heroes. I would still feel bad shooting anyone but the French and Russians though.

No.

Why?
Let me make a wall of text:

As tiring as it is to play as Americans, Brits, and Russians (have there been any Canada-centric or Australia-centric World War II games yet?) over and over, it's really the only way to do it. The Italians were pretty much useless, being more under-equipped than the Brits were, and only gained ground in North Africa because they surprised the Brits, so an Italian-centric game is way out of the question. The Japanese, while powerful, were only so because they invented the Zerg Rush, mindlessly sacrificing many of their own for no apparent reason. Sure, they captured Korea, China, most of the Pacific Islands, Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, etc. but that was mostly BEFORE 1939, and NOBODY was ready for them. Once people got their shit together (See: Kokoda Trail) the Japanese were on the road to failure, especially after the US sent their Pacific ***** Slap (The USS Enterprise) at them, and had really crappy weapons compared to the Allies (better than Italy, but still shit), so they are out as well. This leaves Germany as the only major Axis, and it is 100% impossible to do a Nazi-centric World War II game because of 5 major things:
1. They lost.
2. Can't really have a Nazi-centric game without the various Nazi crap, like Hitler, so there goes ANYONE IN GERMANY being able to play it (legally), and would probably be banned in Israel.
3. Alternate History? Get ready to be crushed under the anger of millions of people (especially Israel).
4. (Depending on time period) Steamroll over tiny little countries and France, get slaughtered in Russia, play Front Lines Pong in North Africa with the British, or get shot in the face in France. Take your pick. Either way, pretty fucking boring.
5. Navy? What navy? Bismark was useless, Tirpitz was useless, U-Boats were only effective for about 2 years (and spent most of that time going from France to the Atlantic and back), and had basically shit all otherwise.
So not only would a Nazi-centric World War II game be banned in Germany (and probably Israel), but it would also being really fucking boring.

I say yes, and I'm going to go ahead and do a point by point rebuttal here because a) I'm sleep derived and b) consequently my judgment is impaired. Here we go:
1. Yes, they lost, but they won a lot too before they lost. Will return to this in 4.
2. You could focus on a career soldier that was in the Reichswehr from before the Nazi take over. Lots of the professional soldiers in Germany didn't support the Nazis at heart, but played along because they thought they could get the better of Hitler. In fact, there could be some fantastic cut-scenes based on backroom negotiations between Wehrmacht generals. Obviously, you would have to have Nazi symbology, but cast it in a historical/sociological light. Plenty of WW2 games have had soviet rhetoric even though the soviet regime killed many more people than the Nazis did. And I doubt Germany and Israel make up a large share of a major publisher's market.
3. Alternate histories aren't really attractive, but it wouldn't hurt to have a last mission where you board a U-boat for Argentina.
4. You don't have to put the player in areas where they lost. Start him off in the Spanish Civil war, go to the invasion of France next, then N. Africa with Rommel before they get chased out, and then move him to Stalingrad, then out again before they get surrounded. You can show tactical victories and skip over the strategic losses.
5. Navy wise, a simple U-boat sim that could compete with COD's tank missions would be sufficient. You could, of course, insert a few Luftwaffe missions for kicks too.

Overall, don't focus on German the country, focus on the player's story, his victories in the face of certain death.

Ok, I'll admit it, the only reason I want this game to happen is so I can start a level with an MP44 and not have to search every single body on the battlefield for one.

Because I am lazy I'm going to post something I always do on the topic.

I personally believe WW2 is not a dead/dying genre. However certain points are definitely over used e.g. Normandy. But there are so many battles and events that haven't been touched on.

My game would be a survival fps with pseudo rpg elements (inventory/equipment but no leveling or skills, much in the way of STALKER), about a party of four ordinary German soldiers in the retreat from Moscow. As they are fighting Russians, the Germans can speak (accented) English for the sake of the players.

They would be a squad of the usual stereotypes a cynical (and older) WW1 vetran, a fresh faced boy straight out of hitler youth, maybe a communist sympathizer and yourself, who is a blank slate.

You'd have varying degrees of squad control (including inventory control) to choose from. You wouldn't have to stick with the characters, but they would provide safety in numbers and other advantages (like a watch system while you sleep), but then again they require more food, ammo and draw more attention.

The goal would be to get back to the safety of your own lines by whatever means necessary. You have avoid/fight through Russian soldiers and perhaps in rare encounters German military police that want to hang you for cowardice. Food, water, sleep and protection from winter exposure would all be important things. Food could be found, stolen or scavenged. Food and water also take up weight.

Weapons would be the range available at the time, mainly bolt action rifles, machine pistols and pistols. Guns and ammunition would take up weight, leaving you to decide do whether to take a rifle or mp40 or both and sacrifice the amount of ammo/food and other stuff you can carry. Weapons would be useful in their different ways, rifles more reliable and able to pick off enemies, machine pistols good for close quarters ambush and pistols concealable.

What you wear would also be important, probably reduced to headgear, uniform, boots and great coat. For example your German helmet offers good protection, but identifies you as a German from afar, whereas the Russian fur hat is warmer and makes you look like a Russian. Who you appear like is important as enemy soldiers and your own scattered allies will fire on those that appear as enemies. Dressing as civilians would have its benefits and restrictions too.

The moral choices would be a lot more grayer/grittier, for example you see a house with Russian civilians in it. You could...

A. Avoid it, but this means you can't get any supplies

B. Threaten them for supplies, but then they'll tell the Russian soldiers who will sweep the area.

C. Kill them all, aside from moral ramifications this takes ammunition and risks drawing a lot attention to your position. But if done quietly nets the supplies and no search.

D. Sneak in and steal the stuff, this risks B or C if caught

E. Pretend to be Russian soldiers (if you have the uniforms) and take or barter for it (you the protagonist would be able to speak Russian)

With randomly generated content like Left 4 Dead, each time could be different.

I thought Nazis zombies got the balance quite right with weapons for fighting zombies, do you choose a rifle, shotgun or machine pistol? As each have varying uses.

Maybe a ww2 game set in the early years in africa/the middleast. There's a large town/small city which both the allies and axis want to capture. It's a fictional city but the excuse is that all records of the city are completely erased by the Allied Government after the war.

You play choose to play as one of two main characters, one a German Afrika Corp, one British. The first couple of levels are standard WW2 fps fighting enemy soldiers, but eventually artillery fire opens a tomb underneath a building and thousand year old mummy like zombies start spilling out.

These are quickly and easily dispatched but some people are bitten. The game then turns in a zombie survival/killing game as you and your surviving men have to work with the Germans/Allies to fight the zombies. When playing two player co-op you both be either of the characters, any more more players would be generic soldiers.

The cover art could have the British soldier and the Afrika Corps soldier standing back to back on a ruined tank with zombies swarming around. Brit firing a thompson in one hand and a webley revolver in the other, German doing the same with a mp40 and luger.
