My dad recently received some kind of certificate for having donated 100 litres of blood in his life-time. That's a lot of blood. He has a rare blood type, so it's helping a lot of people. It's inspired me to do the same, and I'll organise it soon enough, even though I have one of the more-common blood types (he's my step-father, just to clarify), because it seems like an easy enough thing to give, and something that can really help.
you get cool cards too, and you get different colours for the number of times, eg. 1-4 times is a red card, 5-10 is a yellow one etc.
i wanna collect them all! XD
Sounds good! My dad has a whole assortment of key-chains and stationery, but I don't think we have the coloured-card system here in Australia. It sounds like a good one, though! Having a kind of competitive achievement-based system gives me an idea: XBL achievement points in exchange for blood?

Turned 17 two days ago, so I decided to give blood today.Anyways me and my friend walked down to the center I went in we both registered and i got called in first. Anyways upon being told it wouldn't take to long to get rid of a pint of blood for me, i challenged my friend to a race. Anyway I got a time of 4 min 17 seconds. He clocked a time of over 8 minutes. (He felt woozey half way through.)So does anyone else have a story or a time about giving blood?

I don't know how the system is in the USA most likely different as you get paid for it, you lucky bastards.

Edit: Just incase you where wondering here's the UK website it has the guide lines on it and etc http://www.blood.co.uk/
we get paid for plasma donations mostly, I dont think Wisconsin people get paid for it though.

About 470ml, and a little more for testing.
Then I take my hat off to you good sir. That is very impressive. When I used to donate whole blood I was really happy when I clocked off in about 5 minutes, but that pales in comparison to this. Well done.

I have a strangely low normal blood pressure, so as I give blood, I usually have to be restuck because I stop filling the bags.

I would give blood, but honestly, I don't have enough to spare.

I'm not even kidding about that. When I get a blood test taken (and that's only a small vial or two of blood) it totally does me in. My blood pressure drops drastically, I partially lose my vision, I get terribly nauseous. I nearly pass out from blood tests. I'm pretty tired for the remainder of the day.

Needles don't freak me out or anything, but I just can't spare the amount of blood that would be useful to them without completely destroying myself.

I had donated 9 times between the time I started at 16 until I graduated high school two years later. I got an award for it. I'm still donating when I can. I am one pint short of two gallons.

When I was a bit younger, my parents would go and donate all the time. Later, when I started donating, my dad and I would go together. He has B positive, which is very rare, and I have O positive, which is also rare, so they want us to donate whenever we can.

We would race to see who could squeeze pint fastest. He would beat me but only by a few seconds.

It's 16 here, and our school had a blood drive last week, but I don't way enough so I couldn't. Several of my friends did though.

I've given blood numerous times, though only one of those times was an actual donation (the others were blood tests). Unfortunately, the individual who stuck the needle in me apparently can't find veins worth shit (my forearms are very lean and she had no excuse for sucking so much at it). I was left with a massive bruise on my arm composed of various shades of blue and brown for about three or four weeks. I'm never donating blood through the Red Cross again. I might donate for LifeShare, but not the fucking Red Cross. Not after that shit.

I'm 17 and I weigh enough, but aichmophobia, hemophobia, and general selfishness keep me away.

Sorry to everyone who's bleeding. It's highly unlikely that my delicious A-negative blood will ever be spilled intentionally.
