Gold is near enough essential now. I mean you can't even message or talk to friends on silver I believe. I'm getting a full subscription on gold at uni so I can play COD4 again. I miss my old desert eagle...

Gold is neeeded to do almost anything on xbox live as you arn't aloud to join partys ect with silver member ship but you can do privite chat with one person and it forbids you to play any games online which realy does suck, but if you don't like online gameing and you just want the ability to buy some addons for games i'd say silver would be better.

I have Gold. I think it's a fair deal at just over $4 a month and a small price to pay to be able to play online with my friends. Personally I don't care what the competitors are doing. Hell, they could be paying people to play on their service and I'd still stick with XBL. I just like XBox, it's games, and it's service better.

Gold. Some games just aren't worth getting without Gold membership, seeing as most of the development effort for some games is poured into the multiplayer aspect, which you can't even access without Gold, leaving a rather mediocre single-player experience. Halo 3 is guilty of this. I mean, all that hype for a lacklustre campaign that ends quite abruptly?

So, that's why I took Gold, because multiplayer lasts for as long as you like.

Silver. I don't need gold for Fallout 3.

Pokemon Silver was way better.
Ops?
My point still stands.
I agree, I liked Pokemon Silver better as well.
And the game Silver (infogrames) was pretty cool, too.
Gold just felt so mainstream. Also Silver had far better Pokemon to catch.
Same with Ruby and Sapphire. Everyone was swayed by the Groundon monster, whereas the sleek Kyogre was far superior.

Gold, because I love Halo 3 multiplayer and dabble occasionally in GTA4's too. If I get sick of either one, I may well revert to Silver considering I generally play offline games more. Then again, I'm only into my second month of Gold so I could become really attached to it.

I've never heard about the other game though.

It features pre-rendered backgrounds and very blocky characters.
It's basically an action-RPG, but mostly it's just about the action.

$80 a year for a subpar p2p system that refuses to matchmake me against people from my continent? I really don't think so.

A very simple question, but I just wanted to get an idea of how many people have payed for a Gold subscription, and who has rejected Microsoft's attempts to make you play Halo. No, Bill, I don't want to.

I am silver, but am hoping to change within the next month since a whole load of people I know have gotten an Xbox recently.

*** Don't be that person that votes and doesn't post, do your part for the war effort ***
Why bring Halo into this? There are plenty of great games, better than Halo, that are played on XBL, such as PGR4, COD, and L4D. Yes, I am overusing acronyms there, and yes I am a huge Halo fan. But still, Halo isn't the only XBL game out there thats any good.

Anyway, back on topic. I want to get XBL Gold, but to do that I need to be connected, and to do that I need to buy the wireless adapter since I can't otherwise connect it to my wireless router. Hence I'm stuck on Silver by default, but will get Gold as soon as I can. Therefore I voted Silver in the poll. Anyway, Microsoft gave me three months free Gold subscription anyway when I had the RRoD, plus I've still got loads of free vouchers and cards saved from purchased games, so I'll have almost a year free anyway when I do finally get the adapter...

EDIT: I notice a fair few people have posted about Pokemon Gold and Silver. Unless they're being sarcastic, which I doubt, then they obviously didn't read the OP. People, read the OP before you post. That's good forum etiquette. Don't be the fool who has to edit because he got the wrong topic.
