Good Griefing [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_200/6029-War-and-Peace]
Hello all, welcome to my anti-anti-griefing-war thread.
now after reading this article all I have to say is this: hippies go die!
I have been extremely happy that videogames up till now have been untouched by this sort of thing. The article poses a good question at the end
"But what about the players who just like to blow off a little steam? Aren't they entitled to play online without being reminded of the horrors of real-life conflict?"
My answer to this is yes.
The reason I game is for stress release. I enjoy the stories and gameplay, but i wouldn't game nearly as much if it didn't allow me to kill every living thing in sight without being hounded for it.
Not to long ago i recieved a message on my xbl account from an person i had played with. It went something like, "my father has just died over seas fighting for our freedom, please pray for him." Now this is absolutly acceptable. The only interference it provided was a two second pop up saying "you have recieved a message from ________"
After my game I had a minute to kill so i read it then.
I was so happy that this individual was smart enough not to grief me un game I actually prayed for his father, even though I'm atheist(-ish.)
But more recently, an example of activists touting anti-war propaganda found its way into one of my Cod4 matches. Several individuals joined our server, and within ten seconds had covered the map in smoke grenades all the while spewing "make love not war!"
Now, dont get me wrong, I hate war and all it entails, but only in REAL LIFE. Hippies should leave our games alone. but that's just my opinion. whats yours?
