I liked the show more than I thought I would. Is it the greatest thing ever? No. But I find it enjoyable and fun, and that's really all I want from it

For all you saying "dont shove it down my throat", I get where your coming from. But really, when was the last time fans really "shoved it in your face"? The season 2 premiere, perhaps? The constant pony threads and obnoxious fans talking about it all the time are kinda non existent right now. While a lot of the fans on this site sigh and groan every time a pony thread pops up, we really don't get a whole lot of them anymore. The fanbase really has piped down since Octoberish (with the exception if YouTube comments and your odd brony in real life). Of course I can't claim for personal experiences, just the internet in general.

Also, I gotta disagree with the people who say the fanbase is nothing special. Yes, we have our share of douchebags and people who claim to be follow the motto but really don't live up to it, but I really do think the fanbase in general is nicer and more tolerant than most groups, both on and off the internet. How else could you explain the fans getting together and raising $100,000+ for various charities?

And I have to add, I'm happy this thread has made it this far without devolving into a flame war. I am impressed, escapist :) .

I'm just going to repeat what a brony once told me about the show and fans, because from my experience it's true:
'MLP:FiM is a pretty cool show. Not the second coming of christ, but pretty cool. However, there are ponies in it. So fans have to exaggerate and hail it as the second coming of christ to justify the fact that they are watching a show about ponies.'

I've watched it up to episode 6 I believe, didn't personally like it (didn't dislike either, it was watchable but not something I'd do given how much else I could be doing), but could see why others would really like it. Above paraphrase probably explains why watching the show seems to lock you into the community (as far as I'm aware as an outsider), strength in the herd etc. And I have no issue with the fans either.

I think it's the "odd brony in your life" that causes people so much irritation.

I am a fan of the show... I watch it weekly...
As for why I keep coming back?
Who knows...
The community for one... Never on the internet will you meet a nicer group of people... It's a group without trolls, without hate... I know it all sounds stupid... But, from what I can see it's true...

It seems to be that the people who DO watch the show and DO openly like it, automatically makes that person 'better' in this virtual world...
I mean, the community is the main reason I stay in with the show, because everyone I've met through the groups are genuinely great people...

As for the poll, I put "In favour" as I know there are some people who take it too far, outside the community it's all for one, but inside everyone's friends

Personally I think there could be something wrong if you enjoy watching shows aimed at little girls, but whatever floats your boat. I'm not judging. Just don't bother me with it (thankfully until now no-one has) and everything will be fine.

My opinion remains the same. I think the show itself is bad, I don't see whatever bronies find to be so enthralling about it. But people can like whatever the hell they want, it doesn't make them into bad people.

Although I would like them to clean up their community a little. Some of their members can irritate the living fuck out of us.

That's actually a good way of putting it. Before I became a fan, lots of people were talking about it being the best thing ever. I got curious and watched the show. I enjoyed it, to the point of being a fan, but I thought to myself " the show is good, and I enjoined it, but I think people really exaggerated the greatness of the show". I do think fans feel the need to tout it as the best thing ever to get people interested. Though, to be honest, I probably wouldn't of given the show a chance if people didn't exaggerate its quality, so there's that.

Probably. But I'm the only fan I know of personally so I can't say anything on the matter except for things I've seen on the internet... Like pizza hut bronies *shudder*

Indifferent, having never seen a bit of it. It's weird that it has the fanbase it does, but I guess that's old news by now.
I really don't want cartoons at all, though. I used to watch The Simpsons and some Futurama, but not for a long time. The cutesy stuff would be a huge deterrent for me even if I were watching cartoons nowadays. I'm more of a Mad Men/Breaking Bad/Chuck/Community guy myself.

It's a fad that's been drawn out far too long. To begin with I was apathetic. Now I'm just disappointed that this shit has to keep going on.

"Look at me, I'm a guy/adult who watches little girls/children's shows, How ironic."

By that token gamers are good people because of all the money raised for things like Child's Play. ANd 10 minutes on xbox live is enough to make you realise that's just not true. So maybe, Bronies are just like any other group, some are good and some are complete dildos.

My opinion, it's weird. Not because it's a cartoon for little girls, couldn't give a shit about that because I watch too many cartoons to be judgemental on that front. It's just weird because it's a freaking cartoon with one full season to it's name, calm down about it. (Before anyone says anything about my avatar, yes I like Firefly/Serenity, yes I own the series and movie on DVD, yes I own all the comics and yes I will still watch it whenever it's on tv despite being able to watch it whenever I want but I don't consider myself a "browncoat" or think of it as anything more than a franchise I happen to really like.) Fanatics are hard enough to take seriously as it is.
Youve got a point, although I think its the initiative that impresses me the most than the money itself. Child's play is already an established charity. There a lot of people who give to charity for whatever reason who fail impress me. With the bronies, it was something they came together for a good cause. The fundraisers speak well of the people who run them, not necessarily the people who give to them. Anyone can give a couple dollars to a charity for whatever reason and it doesn't immediately make them a wonderful person. Of course this is just my opinion.

I've seen the show, and I'll admit that it's pretty good.
Not quite to my taste, but the characters are well-written, at least. And that's the most important thing in any show, so yeah, I can understand what people see in it.

I love the show, and am a fan, but I don't go around trying to convert people into followers of the show. As far as I am concerned, you either like the show, or you don't. What I don't like is people who have not seen the show at all, hating on it. That is no different than hating a food you have never tasted, or a movie you have never watched. It just doesn't make sense.

I get that some of the fans come off as a little strong and zealous, but the same can be said about anything. If you said "I don't like strawberries" to a guy that LOVES strawberries, they might get offended and tell you about all the wonders of strawberries and how they are best thing ever. If you said "I don't like Star Trek" to a trekkie, then they might get offended and tell you all the wonders of Star Trek and why it is the best show ever. MLP:FiM fans are no different.

So if you're going to watch the show, great! If you're not going to watch the show, thats fine too. If you have watched the show (or clips) and don't like it, then that is your opinion. I know people who hate Ghost in the Shell, my favorite anime of all, and while I may defend it from their criticisms, I don't go "WELL YOU ARE WRONG. THE SHOW IS GOOD YOU JUST DON'T KNOW IT". That is the wrong way to do things.

Alright guys here's the deal, i need to write a seven to ten page paper on My Little Pony: Friendship is magic. Now it's a persuasive paper so i need to go one way or the other. My poll will consist of this. What is your view on the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and its fanbase known as "Bronies" or "Pegasisters", and if you wish to include a why that might also be helpful, for i need opinions on both sides of the argument. I'll be back to check on this in a bit, til then, have fun

And if we could please not have any flame wars? this is for a survey and i rather not sift through all of that crap. thanks again.
Go to surverymonkey
make an actual survey which will give you results which are more tangible (and more functional for academic purposes)

And il be happy to do it.

I mean the question for this poll is too encompassing, it doesn't acknowledge the people who don't really care about the show but think that the fan base is obnoxious/annoying. Its too broad.

Hopefully you read this and go make an actual survey because it will help you :)
In reality if you wanted to do a survey you would pose the same question on multiple forums. Of course here we have a realatively high concentration of bronies, but that can be easily countered by going somewhere like a brony hate site, or 4chan.

No, trust me. It's not some fad, nor is it for ironic purposes (at least for most of the fans). I, like many others, genuinely enjoy the show, sans irony. It's a good show. It has fans. Just cause it has fans outside the target demographic doesn't mean its just for the irony or an internet meme.
