You know, good games tend to have all of them (Graphics, Art Design, Gameplay, Storyline).

Storyline, of the two, is wht keeps me playing a game.
I hated Final Fantasy 8. It had really good graphics,
but the storyline sucked. My personal favorite was FF6.
I HATE bringing Final Fantasy into this, but it's just an example.

As for gameplay, that's also very important. I'd say it is a dead tie between storyline and gameplay, if not gameplay more, because even if the story is good, if the gameplay sucks, I'm not going to play the game.

That's what confuses me though, WoW does not have the best graphics, and yet it's still so popular.
If people rely on graphics so much, like most people I know do, then why do they play it?
Gameplay, that's just it.

Exactly why is there no gameplay option? This is MADNESS! Seriously though if it was all about story then JRPGs would be on top and if it was all about graphics then FPS' would be the Gods of Gaming but neither are. Thus gameplay is the only sensible option if it isn't fun to play who gives two shits about the rest of it?

So far as I'm concerned anyone who feels that graphics define a good game needs to be taken out, put against a wall and slapped.

Seconded.
Pong had neither, for example. Not a particularly relevant example, but I can't be bothered to google it.

Gameplay is very crucial. Graphics don't really matter to me. They're the kind of things that you think about after you look at the story or gameplay or how fun it is. See, I played Gears of War 2 for a while and liked it and THEN I looked at the graphics and thought they were pretty good. I mean, it's not like I don't care at all, because a lot of Wii games have embarrassingly bad graphics, but it could be the most beautiful game in the world but if it handles like crap and has a ridiculous story, then I don't care about graphics. Story is more important, but not the most important part of the game. I play games that are FUN so I can have FUN, not to look at wonderful drawings and not to see a movie.

Gameplay comes first, then story. Graphics and audio lay at the bottom. Graphics do not hurt games, but they can make them more visually pleasing. The only time I really take geaphics into consideration are blurry 3D games that are a real annoyance. I would rather play Goldeneye 64 over Crysis.

A strong visual element can make an otherwise average game awesome.

e.g. Okami would be nothing without its graphics.
I think that leans toward art style rather then graphics, which is a term mostly used for texture detail.

Interesting or engaging graphics draw you in, an interesting and well-written story keep you there.

I'm not gonna say that graphics make the game, but they are the first thing we notice, no one really has an idea of what the story with play out like until the're playing it.

I prefer a game where the grpahics aren't so intense, possibly a more cartoony-looking style.
And an engaging storyline to go with it.

Which is why i'm likely not finding myself too interested in games now days, too much attention is wasted on making everything look "real" like we play games to be real...

i'd say graphics over story, becuase i don't care how good the story is if the graphics for a 360 game (or even later ps2 game for that matter) look like most free mmos.

Graphics can be more important than plot, since atmosphere is an essential component of creating a convincing title. However, I'm opting out of this poll because it doesn't have an option to vote for what really matters: gameplay.

I still think (and everybody should) that gameplay is the most important part in a game. Graphics or story don't matter if the gameplay is bad.

I voted for the story by the way.

If I could rank this,

Tied for 1st - Gameplay and Story
2nd - Graphics

Really, graphics are nice, but without a good story, it goes to shit. (See Crysis)

That´s the truth. If a game is unplayable there is no point in graphics or story.

(Game-play*Storyline)+Graphic=quality.

Game-play:It's important, but if you don't enjoy what you are doing, it's not much.

Storyline: Might be the best story evar, but without good gameplay you might as well be reading (see:.HACK)

Graphics: While nice to have, not really game-breaking unless they are absolutely horrific.

I voted for storyline; but gameplay is just as important. I usually don't get mad at a game for having bad or stylish graphics. I love Zelda: The Wind Waker. Though a lot of people didn't because of the cel shaded look.
Games like MGS4 have great graphics and great stories though. Both of those are nice.
I am a little disappointed at the Wii graphics limitations though. Any attempt to make things look realistic just makes it look awful. Stick to good stories and wacky graphics Nintendo.
