The cel-shading is the ONLY thing this game has going for it.

Otherwise it will be a cute Diablo 2 meets Fallout 3 game. At least this way it almost feels original.

How can I answer the poll? Do I buy/not buy?
What if I answer 'yes'? Then I buy AND don't buy?
What if I answer 'no'? Do I NOT buy AND not buy?

Anyway, no, I don't. I buy games of all types of graphics - cel-shaded, realistic, stylistic (MadWorld), cartoony etc.

Graphics isn't my number one concern... but they are nice to have.
Have you bought any game that didn't...have graphics? (god, this reminds me of the Nintendo DS commercial: "It has lots of graphics!")

I judge some on the style of the graphics. It depends on the game (Half Life's realistic style was just right for it), but I prefer colorful, stylized graphics. I love the art styles of the Tales games, Wind Waker, and Sly Cooper. I also like the look of Valkyria Chronicles, and probably would get it if I had a PS3.

I prefer stylized games to "Ultra-realistic Gorefest 3001." In fact, when I stated my love of the new Prince of Persia's art style, I was told that it was "...Eh, too cartoony for me." I was shocked that someone would choose that of all things to judge a game off of.

Borderlands looks ultra awesome, the Cel-shading is done with very good graphics as well.
The Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda Game.
Valkyria Chronicles is amazing.
Oh, but Borderlands is both a gorefest and stylized. We have video of people's faces melting. It'll be plenty bloody.

I love cel-shaded graphics, but oddly enough, I don't think it works for Borderlands.
They could have kept the 'realistic' graphics, but turned the colour palette all wacky.

Graphics don't bother me at all when it comes to games; unless the gameplay suffers as a result...

Its when games try to use their graphics engine as a key selling point that bothers me. Don't get me wrong if the gameplay does not suffer I dont mind; however if a game excuses poor gameplay for the arguement of the game being artistic, that is when I get annoyed. Take Far Cry 2 for example sure it had a good fire mechanic but the gameplay was dull, and the whole milaria issue became really frustrating after a while.

When used right I think that Cel shading can easily be more impressive than realistic rendering.

Consider something like Crysis, you can really see the weaknesses especially on distant foiliage and even on many of the textures up close. In Gears and other games you can clearly see how the limited texture size affects the quality of the normal maps. When it comes to Cel Shading it's almost like vector graphics, they are resolution independent.

I prefer the aesthetic of Wind Waker which to me, easily looks better than many current gen games.

In my opinion, gameplay>graphics, graphics are just there to show you what's in the game world, because if you can't see a thing, then there's no reason for graphics to even exist (you could better sue text instead).
If i can't see anything because it's full of motionblur, overused bumpmapping and hdr, then the game has bad graphics even if it runs 5 bizillion polygons smoothly...in contrast, starcraft 1 (a 2d game from over a decade) still has good graphics, because it has enough details to be believable and realistic and you can see what's going on on the screen all the time and you never look at a unit and ask yourself what that thing is supposed to be.

And actually, i think cell shading is a good way for indie game studios to give their players nice graphics without the 100 artists and the 1 million budget big studios have...

It's not really a big deal. It's possible that the visual aesthetic doesn't mesh with the game play, story, themes, etc. but I don't know enough about the game to judge it. And cartoonish looks aren't bad. The more basic the graphics, the more people that the characters approach in likeness. It can potentially immerse people more than spectacularly realistic graphics if it's done right.

The game looks very impressive, and the creators claim it to have over half a million unique weapons.
How does that work? Are they randomly generated Diablo-esque weapons? I can't imagine anyone producing that much content by hand.

Actually the graphical change is what has attracted me to borderlands before it just looked like generic brown garbage dump representation of the future now it actuall has itsa own distinct style like how when you look at a mirrors edge screenshot you could never mistake it for a different game

While I consider gameplay more important than graphics, Borderlands' art style has actually turned me off it somewhat, for the reasons outlined below:

a) I hate cel-shading
b) I feel that the switch makes the game seem more "cartoony", and while I may be wrong, the tone of the story and environment (what I've heard of it) suggests otherwise.
c) I really hate cel-shading.

I may be wrong about this; the game may be great or terrible. Either way, I plan on giving it a rent when it comes out.

Considering that I'm currently getting into Nethack, I think it's safe to say I don't care about graphics.

My opinion about this topic is clear, sometimes game developers should just take a look to the past and instead of making a crappy game based on breath taking super graphics they should try to make a 2D sprite or drawn game with lot's of basic content. Like example Gradius or Metal Slug series.
