It's kind of annoying at first but I don't mind. I usually can find something else that works just find, adapting and moving on.

I'm slightly annoyed but as long as you get them back (with ammo!) I'm usually fine with it.

When it happened in Clear Sky, that pissed me off the most... I had just gotten an amazing assault rifle and then I had to go through hell with no armor or decent weapons...

Meh. The only time I've encountered that was in Half Life 2 and for good reason, so it doesn't bother me.

I almost raged quit when they took my shit from me in Fallout 3 the Pitt expansion. The way you lose it is lame as hell. I was in a full suit of powered armor that can take a hit from like 3 rockets but they knocked me out with some stupid lead pipes. I had a fricken flame thrower suck it game.
I feel you, I could have freed the slaves the same way I freed the slaves from Paradise Falls, just march in, in impenetrable power armour, using my Gauss rifle to blow the head off of any slavers that comes within a 30-yard radius of me.(also I was level 30) But nope, I get taken out by 4 leather clad assholes with police batons.

It works sometimes, one thing I didn't like was that just about every MGS game takes away all of your items at some point per game. That is of course except in MGS Portable Ops when they let you keep your items, but take away your main character.

Fallout 3 did with the interrigation scene with the Enclave guy, in an empty room, with no weapons, and no pants....

Haha, when I saw the thread title I wanted to mention Alan Wake too. Yeah, you lose your stuff like 4 or 5 times in that game. Fortunately the game is pretty easy (at least on Normal difficulty) so it's not a big hindrance, but it's definitely something I noticed as well.

Call Of Cthulhu: Dark Corners Of The Earth spent the first three or so hours with no guns. And those three hours were some of the scariest, gut wrenching and intense three hours of gaming I've ever experienced.

Prototype had a section where you couldn't use your powers at all and then expected you to take out an entire base. That section made me rage pretty hard.
The guns in that game just wiped everything out. They were actually stronger then the powers at taking on the grunts.
I thought that was a nice change from the usual RAWR I AM A GOD gameplay.
But...But... I love being a god... *Snif*

OT: I find Bioshock to be more fun when it's just me, my wrench, and a fistfull of lightning.

I call this "Residue Processing Syndrome", named after the level in Half-Life 1 where you're stripped of your weapons and thrown in a trash compactor... full of stacked crates... with a crowbar conveinently lying at the top.

Could be worse, though. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth did this THREE TIMES.

I like getting frisked.

Well, depending on who does the frisking, of course.

I also hate when that happens too often in games, like in Alan Wake or Call of Cuthulhu: DCotE

I gave up Assassin's Creed half because it was getting boring, and half because I got all my weapons taken away. It pisses me off and it's a mechanic that should only be used a long way through the game for a good reason.

Except Tomb Raider 3... I went to Nevada last. ALWAYS go there first.
Oh yeah, definately. If you don't go there first, you can't get the rocket launcher.

Oh and it didn't really work in Angel of Darkness either. What the hell is up with taking all my favorite weapons away mid game and not letting me get those weapons back? I know we get different ones, but I liked the Desert Ranger, damnit! (Yes, that is correct. It's obviously based on the Desert Eagle, but that's not what they call it.)

Post of the day.

It's annoying, but it depends on the context. Sometimes it can be done well, other times not.

I think that was actually a bug: you were supposed to be able to get your weapons back after that apartment level, but couldn't. Which meant going through most of the rest of the game with a crappy ancient pistol, fortunately with virtually unlimited ammo after the ammo glitch in said apartment level.
