Poll: GTA IV or Saint's Row 2?

Asking this question on a forum which people only really post on because they found it via looking for Yahtzee is a little odd. Given the review yahtzee did and how he likes SR2 > GTA4 do you think there's going to be much correlation from the ridiculous sheep that watch his reviews? I think so...

That having been said I'm not defending GTA4, I've never played it. I'm not one for sandboxing. I prefer swinging.

Saints Row 2 is firmly in my all time top 5 games. The online co-op is done so fantastically it's a pure joy to play. The game is exactly what GTA IV should have been. Unless GTA V pulls something drastic out of the bag and goes back to it's Vice City routes I can see the series really, really struggling in the future; resorting to selling games on past glories alone.

Sand Box has a new king, and Saints Row 2 is his name.

Grand Theft Auto was great fun. The gameplay worked excellent and the story was teriffic. The whole game was just so refined and worked through.

Now, Saints Row 2 wasn't bad, but it was buggy and the story was kinda meh IMO. It had good co-op but the shooting didn't work as good as it did in GTA IV and I didn't like the driving.

And again, it was fucking buggy. I can't understand how THQ could release it like that.

I liked Saint's Row 2 a little bit more than GTA IV mainly because of the silliness and the pure sociopathy of most of the characters. Sure, Niko has his moments of anti-social behavior, both in free roam and story modes, but for the most part he is a fairly decent guy (probably similar to Mal from Firefly).
Boss, on the other hand, has no redeemable qualities (except maybe his loyalty to friends) and is a complete monster who revels is murder and explosions.
The mini-games and side quests were a lot more fun than in GTA IV as well. Spraying liquid shit all over houses, blowing the living hell out of neighborhoods and snatching hos from rival pimps sure beats bowling, darts or pool any day of the week.

Saints Row II is what the old GTA would have been like with modern era graphics. A truer sequel than 4 is at any rate. Tbh I preferred the driving and flying mechanics of GTA4, but overall it's gotta be Saints Row.

Grand Theft Auto IV. Although I haven't played Saint's Row 2.

I will say that I hope the Grand Theft Auto series stays the course on this route its taken. I prefer the realism, the maturity and the strong narrative. I believe that's what Rockstar applied to Red Dead Redemption, and it turned out fantastically.

Saints Row 2

The character customization is just a hoot. I have a Waldo (Where's Waldo) lookalike running around with an assault rifle and an angry British accent. If I get bored with that, I can go visit a plastic surgeon and change literally every aspect of him and make the game a totally changed experience.

On the other hand, GTA VI has bowling with your cousin.

I loved the first Saint's Row, but the sequel went a little overboard with the customization which seriously hurt the overall quality.

I haven't actually played the first Saint's Row, but I assumed it would be pretty much the same but with less of everything. Is that an incorrect assumption?

Also, dicking around in Liberty City was awesome.

Did you not find dicking around in Stilwater fun?

You could say there was less of everything in the first Saint's Row, but you could also say there was more of something else; overall stabilty. In the first game everything from the driving to the shooting to the graphics to the missions just felt much more solid. In Saint's Row 2 it all felt to lose and arcade-like to me.

For me, the first game hit the perfect mark between "wacky action" and "realistic action". It was like GTA: San Andreas, but with good controls and with good graphics. Saint's Row 2 however, went for full-blown wacky action without any real sense of realistic action.

Though, it has been a looong time since I played the first game, so maybe my memory is a bit muddled.

As for the dicking around, I loved gathering a pose of 3 packing uzis and going on a highway killing spree in the first Saint's Row, but after rampaging through Liberty City, it just didn't really feel the same anymore.

I much prefer SR2 over GTA4 however if the lost and the damned had been the focus of the full game I think it would be the other way around Johnny Kleibitz' story was infinitely more interesting than that little ***** Niko's

You people are insane. GTA IV was a fricking masterpiece. SR2 was a buggy mess with no weight to the story. GTA IV all the way. I couldn't GIVE away SR2 quick enough.

Better radio: GTA IV

I'd have to disagree, I absolutely love the radio on Saint's Row 2. The stations are actually diverse, there's literally something for everyone. Don't like hip hip? No problem, have some Lamb of God to listen to. Don't like this modern stuff? Here's a station dedicated to 80s music

Yeah, I like the fact that instead of some purely music stations and some purely comedy stations, they put joke adverts in all the stations, and you could customise your own playlist (but no adverts unfortunately).

Also, I would actually *try* playing at least one of the games before commenting on them. Or at least calling people "sheep" for offering up their opinions on them. Seeing as they may have actually tried to play one of the named games.

This type of thing just irritates me. It's like pointing a finger at somebody and calling them stupid for liking chocolate because somebody else might like chocolate. And then admitting that not only do you not like chocolate, you dislike candy in general. But those people as still stupid for liking chocolate because somebody else might like it, too.

Yeah, I very much liked that I could make my own playlist. Of the preset ones, I mostly listened to the 80s station, and Ultor FM (or whatever it was called earlier in the game), but with the playlist creator I could take my favourite songs from those stations and have them together, along with a few from other stations. Everyone wins! (By which I mean I win)

I liked Saint's Row 2 more but, once I beat the story mode I stopped playing. Granted that was the PS3 version and I am an achievement hound...Once they release the Saint's Row double pack thing in a couple weeks I'm picking that up.

GTA4 was fun but, it tried being really serious and gritty and whatnot. Not necessarily bad but it wore on me. Also, night time seemed to last twice as long as daylight hours but that could have just been me.

I played Saint's Row 2 on PC and GTA IV on Xbox 360. Saint's Row 2 was hardly playable while GTAIV had some solid controls.

Past the controls, however, GTA IV was one of the most boring games I've ever played. Players I don't care about, a world that feels dead, mandatory minigames for darts and stuff, the city is closed off at the beginning... Ugh, no thanks.

Saint's Row 2 was a lot more fun to play, just for the sheer variety. Still, the controls suck. It's poorly ported to PC.

I'd say they're both pretty crappy games but Saint's Row 2 is fun despite the crappiness while GTA IV is just tedious. I'll go for Mafia or Mafia II any day.

How about both? I see no reason why having one excludes the other. Saint's Row has more fun in it, I think. On the other hand GTA IV clearly has the advantage of being the 6th installment in a series. Saint's Row's got some rough edges, and GTA looks better.

But I like them both.
