Thanks, tips!Korten12 said:NCSoft is the producer, not the developer. ArenaNet is, and the only game they ever made besides Guild Wars 1 is GW2.DracoSuave said:Let's see...

Yeah. [sarcasm]totally a tie[/sarcasm].
I like NCSoft, I really do, but... no, GW2 is not going to be a WoW killer.

Uh, Guild Wars has sold at least 6 million copies. And since it's free to play, there are no subscribers. People can and do leave and come back whenever they feel like it, particularly when an expansion comes out, and it doesn't hurt the game at all. (As will be the case with GW2.)DracoSuave said:Thanks, tips!Korten12 said:NCSoft is the producer, not the developer. In other news, NO!!! REALLY!?! and finally, that just proves my point.
Given that an MMO is concidered a monumental success if it can hold one tenth of WoW's subscriber base, the question becomes, do you honestly see GW2 getting a million players, when GW1 hasn't even come close to that mark?
GW isn't bad... but... really!?! Come on, people.

And yet Guild Wars didn't -dent- WoW. A lot of people who bought it, never played it again. Current players are considerably less, less than a million.EmperorSubcutaneous said:Uh, Guild Wars has sold at least 6 million copies. And since it's free to play, there are no subscribers. To give you an idea of what that means... 'well received' means that it has a current player base of over 100,000 generally. EQ was 'well received.' City of Heroes was 'well received.' Which is fine, and I wish them success. On top of that, GW1 was received extremely well. It's still one of the highest rated MMOs out there.
So? It's still a sequal to a game that didn't dent the competition that a lot of deluded 'hypesters' are saying it will kill. And finally, GW2 is going to be very, very different from GW1. It has vastly more mainstream appeal.
ALL MMORPGs are like that. Not just WoW. GW2 won't kill WoW.Hectix777 said:I know there are a lot of die hard WoW fans out there, but WoW (at least in my eyes) is kinda dull. It's' travel to point X kill this many (insert name of enemies here), and you either go raiding for gear to do MORE raiding or grinding(grind is the bane of gaming!).
You're incredibly naive if you think NCSoft provides money without having any influence on the game, no matter what the Arenanet hype-department might admit to.fundayz said:1. NCsoft is NOT developing GW2, Arenanet is. NCsoft has no direct influence on the game, they just provide the money.
Notice how I said MMO not MMORPG, yes Guild wars will be a revolution in MMORPG terms but who's to say we can't have good quality MMO shooters or racing games or TBS, doesn't necessarily have to be an RPG but sadly major publishers seem to be ignoring this as the risk outweighs the likely reward.EmperorSubcutaneous said:I do hope you realize that that's exactly what GW2 is trying to do: be an MMO that's completely different from anything we've seen before, and nothing at all like a WoW variation. They're the company that's willing to take that gamble.Retronana said:I like to think that someday we'll get an MMO that's completely different that anything we've seen before, unfortunately no company is willing gamble that much money when they can get a safe return just making a WoW variation. Guild wars 2 will NOT outsell WoW in a million years, doesn't mean it won't be a massive success though, heres hoping![]()
In precisely what way has WoW aged poorly? It's growing in subscriber base, having topped 12 million active subscribers. WoW has currently outlived quite a few more recent games, so I really don't understand why it would start dying now.theriddlen said:World Of Warcraft was old when it came out, now it's a relic. It will lose, because that's how market works - sooner or later it'll have to die, and Guild Wars 2 is new, pretty and shiny - it'll basically outlive WoW.
