OMG i have just been playing half life 2 for the first time, i have never played anything in the half life series but i bought the orange box cause i wanned portal and it cost the same as portal on its own, so i got the orange box

I have played thru portal, so i decided to play half life, and OH MY GOD.
I now know what all the hype is about.
It's amazing!
Simply beyond words...I was totally shocked by how good it is. Like, wow!

PS: sorry for bringing up half life now, after ages of it being out, but i wanned to see what people think...same experience as me (got it cause it was cheap, then never expected it to be this good) or whatever...Enjoy the poll aswell.

And now that you have formed this opinion, you may join the rest of the mob in waiting for Episode 3. You may choose from a Pitchfork or a Torch for when Valve decides to delay it and we rush their headquarters like a pack of unruly serfs.

I was disappointed with Half-Life 2, to say the least. It's not a very good game, not nearly as good as people say it is.

I got it also not too long ago after hearing the rants about how great it is, and I was thoroughly dissapointed. Just not my type of game I guess, but I do enjoy TF2 and Portal.

Still trying to work out if it is a joke or not, but yeah Half-life 2 was good when I managed to convince my PC to run it, but I got bored before the end. Then again that might have been down to my PC not liking it

Oh yeh in the orange box aswell were ep 1 and ep 2, then when i installed them it download lost coast. What are the eps, like "after stories", and what is lost coast?

Also, can you briefly sum up the story of half life one-i hear half life 2 and portal have relevance to it unlike many many sequels these days...

Thanks for the info, as long as you have it...

Go play Half Life 1, trust me it's a graphical downgrade but it is just as good as Half Life 2. It is worth it.

The episodes are the continuation of Half Life 2's story arc. Think of Half Life 2 as only half of the actual game, and the episodes are the second half.

Lost Coast I never played, is it any good? Should I invest the time?

Episode One Two and Three are considered Half Life 3 by Valve.

Loast coast is ok I suppose, the fight with the hunter chopper is tense, as ever.

OK, just found half life on steam-i don't get it though. There is the original sure, and its thing (blue shift or whatever like ep 1 and 2 for half life 2), but there is also half life:source

What is half life: source?

The same game on the source engine that half life 2 and portal run on, so just a graphical upgrade? is it worth buying the source version if this is so?

They are cause Valve fucked up the episode scheme.

They regret ever call the new HL2 games episodes cause they fail to release them faster. We would probably much better off with Ep1/Ep2/Ep3 all together...or not.

I enjoyed Half Life a lot, due to the Valve's way of making games:
-Good, compelling story
-Well made from both a graphical stand point and a coding point (i.e. it's not riddled with bugs like recently released PC ports)
-Pretty inteligent AI (compared to some other games, Half Life's really is inteligent. Crysis I'm looking at you as a posterboy for retarded A.I.!)
-Interesting puzzles (I'm not talking especially of the see-saw(sp?) puzzle, but more the cache finidng puzzles)

At least, that's my opinion.

I loved Half life 2, mainly because I fell in love with Alyx from the moment she saved me from the Combine. I alway guess the "a certain character" was going to be a traitor when i first met him/her...he/she talked too much.

Then I bought half life 1 and didn't like it at all. Dunno what all the fuss was about.

I can't play any other FPS shooter without comparing it to Half Life 2. The main reason I hate Bioshock is that it was done better in Half Life 2.

I played HL2 on the PC and played the entire Orange Box on the 360 and I found that neither struck me as being particularly great (they weren't bad but they weren't as awesome as everyone seems to make it out to be).

I would ordinarily just call HL2 an average game (maybe even above average if I'm in a good mood or was laid the night before) but the sheer hype and undue flattery that this game has recieved has shifted my opinion downwards slightly (so the fanbase made the game worse for me).

It's playable, now let's just shut up about it.

I was disappointed. The whole deaf-mute character thing is getting old, people justify that design choice by the argument "The Player Character should not speak, he/she should just be a vessel that the player enters to explore the game world themself" or something like that, but really, how many of us are THAT impressed, even with current generation tech? We know it's not us. If nothing else, the fact that people keep calling us "Mr. Freeman" should be some clue. He grunts when he jumps, so that's the illusion shattered already... yet he never says a word to the people who for some reason keep telling him everything he needs to know without ever being asked.

Besides that, I think that HL2 was an average game whereas HL1 was a true classic, a proud example of everything just falling into place and creating a harmonious, enjoyable whole. It just goes to show how much of it was really just luck, after all... luck and a clearly limited supply of good ideas.
