Poll: Half Life Episode 3

What is the deal with HL e3? Where the hell is it? Why do I not posses it yet?

These are questions that circle around my head from time to time. I?m sure this subject has been touched on before but I was just wondering if anyone had any clue about what has happened to the climactic finale of the half life episodes...

Gabe said there is a really good reason why we haven't heard anything about Episode 3 yet. As there is no one in the industry that I could trust more, I think this means that it is either A. Going to be epic, much bigger than the previous two episodes and be all around totally awesome...or B...see above but actually is Half-Life 3 in some way...either by an updated source engine or something.

Personally I don't think it'll be 'Half-Life 3', as that will hopefully be made as a new chapter entirely in Gordon's story. We're still looking for a conclusion to Half-Life 2, and that to me does not say a new game...but quite possibly a third episode that is as large as Half-Life 2 itself.

What have the previous complaints been about the episodes? Waiting too long for too short of a game, and no new innovative weapons. My bet is we get both of those, an epic storyline and conclusion that answers a question or two, while raising many more. And maybe some babies. You heard the doc, GET BUSY.

And I think we'll get it this year. They like to surprise us.

That's your first mistake.

Oh? Gabe and the folks at Valve have yet to blatantly lie to us or get us too hyped up over nothing, like many other game houses (Every MMO since WoW, Brutal Legend, etc were all very over-hyped). I think the worst thing they've done was tell us we'd get a new weapon or something in Episode 2, which disappointingly turned out to just be the Mag device...and yet episode 2 was still awesome. Every single game they've made is something I would consider 'high quality' and is on my favorites list. Left 4 Dead 2 was a massive controversy, and they assured us time and time again that it would be worth it, it was a new game, it would be awesome, "Trust us". I did, and I was rewarded. The game is great, and I agree with everything he's said about it.
So, personally, I trust them to delivery what -I- expect, enjoy and love about their games and I trust them when they tell us to 'just hang in there, it'll be worth it'. They may not meet everyone's expectations, but that's not my problem.

This. Seriously, are valve forgetting what made them awesome-sauce? (Although I would love to see thier take on a psychological horror game like Silent Hill 2 or Penumbra: Black Plague. Hopefully with the Penumbra-esque way of interacting with the environment)

I'm sure I read that these episodes ARE Half-Life 3. They just didn't want to leave people waiting for another 6 years or whatever it was the first time round.

I say postpone Portal 2 and put out HL2 Ep3. I mean i loved portal, really i did, but seriously, Valve started an entirely new franchise and put out two games for it in the time frame of about a year. L4D is awesome, Portal is awesome, but i want me some Half-Life 2!!!!

Valve is taking their sweet time to make it epic. At least, they damn well better be. If we get another Left 4 Dead sequel before we get Half Life 2 Episode 3, I will be rather annoyed.

it's not going to be epic, they're just trying to figure out their own plot, then they'll get down to writing the next installment.

OT: Just wait - I don't get why everyone has such a problem with waiting:

Basically, they're blowing their whole animation budget on having someone do American Sign Language. I read it in an article.

People at my college are deaf and use ASL, so I know that it's probably going to take Valve a lot of time.

Gabe is *****, his excuse for not making L4D on the Ps3 was "We are currently working with Microsoft and have a very good relationship with them".
Cut the bullshit Gabe, you're taking their money you fat wanker. A;so his "PS3 is a waste of time" comment.

Ahh, I don't have a PS3, so that hasn't bothered me. But to be fair, when one company has to work with multitudes of others in order to put out their product, it can be very easy to say 'screw it' when one company is a pain in the ass to work with, as I hear the PS3 can be. My company is working on a big title right now that is going out for all three, PS3 XBOX and PC. Apparently all of the major problems happen with the PS3, and they're a ***** about it. I only work in audio, so I can only say that's what I hear, not that it's true.

Also, Valve tried their best to put out DLC for free...tried to with XBox, but Xbox wouldn't allow it. And the whole thing of them flying to meet the Mod guy and donating his $3000 to charity. And them flying the two leaders of the boycott to show them what was so different about L4D2. This doesn't really strike me as the kind of company who's entire purpose is money. Money is always a goal, but everything they've done is also a very honed piece of art. This is my conclusion and opinion of the matter. Out of all the game companies in the industry, Valve just seems like one of the best to me.

Anyway, I felt the need to defend them, and kinda hate it when people quote my opinions and say 'You're wrong', But now that I understand why you're so negative, I'm not really going to continue debating. I AM sorry you can't enjoy the best games evar on your console of choice.
