Personally, I have never played a strategy game that I was really into. Probably because I am more of an instant gratification gamer but none the less, I find halo wars to be... promising, of course just like politicians games rarely keep promises.

What are your hopes/dreams/expectations for halo wars?

On the switch side what are your predictions of failure for halo wars?

EDIT:

Another question, what game franchise would you like to see become a RTS if any?

Only played one RTS on the 360 and found it incredibly awkward, I hope that it's not the same but i'd rather it be released on pc aswell.

I love RTS games, don't get me wrong. But RTS doesn't work on Console. Hell, even The Sims didn't work on console very well. I'm not getting this cause I have a very deep feeling this won't mesh well.

I'm sure they eventually will release it for the PC, they almost always do.

And yes RTS games do work better on the pc, remember Rome: total war?

I'll get it if its good.

...

I sat here for awhile trying to think of something else to contribute to the thread but all I could think of was to say that I have nothing else to say. I feel bad saying practically nothing though.

Maybe if it comes out on the PC. I'm definatly not getting it on my xbox, because let's face it, RTS games don't work well on consoles.

As for my expectations I'd give it a "Meh+"

I played Red Alert 3 on the 360 at my cousin's place, and the control scheme honestly worked pretty well. Queuing up units and structures for production is fast and easy.

The only downside was that it was a little tricky to activate unit abilities, but not to the point that it was broken. Halo Wars looks like it has a better system.

As for Halo Wars, I'm going to rent it at least. I expect it to be a relatively simple RTS, with lots of corridor levels instead of open areas, but the story sounds neat and the graphics look great.

I predict a mediocre game with balance issues to be adored by fanboys. A console RTS is always garbage. (See: Starcraft 64) Not even Starcraft, arguably the best RTS game on PC, was enjoyable with console controls.

RTS on console just fails. I also think franchises like halo just fail when given to another dev team.

Halo Wars killed the HUGELY promising Halo mod for CnC Generals with a Microsoft lawsuit. It's already off to a bad start, which combined with it being an rts built for a console, with no apparent desire to release it on the PC not only negates the need for a lawsuit but also means it's pretty much guaranteed to be dumbed-down. From the early footage I saw, it had shiny graphics, but gimmicky features, like hogs (and presumably Ghosts) being able to jump over chasms - I can see this just being used in some missions to artificially force the use of these light vehicles, and then completely ignored for the majority of the game.

Very low expectations tbh, and not something I'm as likely to buy the console for as Halo 3 - though even that didn't manage to tempt me.

Yeah, and they even let you select like 20 units at a time to compensate for it being terrible.

Didn't work at all.

I think that RTS is definitely better represented on PC, and this game will only be purchased by Halo fans. And not even every Halo fan, because most Halo fans aren't into RTS. I doubt anyone into RTS will buy this when they have SupCom to play and SCII to play...

first of, i am uneasy of cross-genre games. i was scared of starcraft ghost for pretty much the reverse argument of this (although i didn't really need to worry about that). While it is true that rts games NEVER work on consoles, i can remain optimistic towards halo wars for 2 reasons: Ensemble studios is a fantastic developer, but more importantly, its designed specifically for the 360, not a port of a PC game like RA3, meaning it keeps in mind the joysticks and buttons instead of mice and keyboards. now, im just waiting for the demo to see if the game really works, which it probably won't, but who knows, maybe this could blow us all away (but probably not).

by the way, an ensemble employee has already confirmed that halo wars will never make it to PC http://www.videogamer.com/news/17-11-2008-9948.html

I have yet to play a good RTS game on a console. They need to stay on the PCs. If it was made for the PC, I would highly consider.

They're going to need those hogs to jump the large chasm between genres...

Ensemble did a good job with Age of Empires 3, but they are out of their element on a console.

I totally agree, the market for a Halo RTS just isn't there.

With Starcraft II on the horizon, who would give this more than a passing glance?

Since I am not big into PC gaming in general (but I do like a good RTS) I will consider it if I hear it has decent controls.

Its still up in the air for me because the D-Pad for the 360 blows so much ass. If only I could have one of the improved D-Pad controllers from Europe...
