It doesn't in my area.

I have to wonder, how different does a fast food joint taste in other regions and if some major changes for the worse in food quality are franchise specific?

LoL If you can't even make the equivalent of a pizza hut crap fest then you really can't talk about cooking food.
Seriously I have yet to find a worse pizza than the hut's. I could easily copy it but ugg why would you ewww.
I would bet any amount money that you and anyone else couldn't make a pizza that's even remotely like Pizza Hut's or any other fast food for that matter in their home, nobody can.
It's pretty easy. Just buy some frozen dough for that extra crappiness.

Or you could make a real home made pizza, one that blows pretty much all the chains and, depending on the state of pizza in your area, a lot of the local joints away.

Seriously, I have a hard time understanding why anyone would voluntarily buy fast food pizza unless A.) they're trying to save money, so a $5 large (that's about the size of a small at a real pizza place) is a good way of doing it, or B.) there are no real pizza places in the area. It's pretty much the same in terms of time and convenience, the difference is in quality and price, with the price typically not being all that much higher.
You forgot C.) That fast food pizza especially ones like Pizza Hut is leaps and bounds better than anything anyone could possibly make at home, which is the real reason.
Um, no it's not. I can make a better pizza using canned biscuits for the crust, and that's not bragging. Home made pizza is amazing, and it's even better with actual pizza dough.
you need to become a master chef then apparently, every homemade pizza i've ever tasted was complete shit or was wayyyyy too heavy on the add-ons.(this is coming from someone who eats pizza bare minimum once a week)

i'll stick to my freschetta and godfathers pizzas, as it is fucking delicious enough for me to eat my OWN jumbo pizza in one sitting usually.

Sounds to me like you're just used to frozen crap, which I guess there's nothing wrong with that. Saves you money on food, anyway. Are there any local pizza joints you frequent, or just Godfather's and your local grocery store's freezer? Serious question.

i've tried shit tons of different pizza's (from fine dining italian all the way down to "i'm drunk..and this is in the shape of a triangle, i'll eat it.")

some examples of places i've had pizza at:

pizza counter
Orsi's
Big Fred's
Sortino's
Old Chicago
Dominoes
Little Caesars
Mama's Pizza
Sam & Louie's
Zio's
La Casa Pizzaria
Valentinoes
Bene's Pizza and pasta
Romeo's
Pizza Gourmet Co
Lansky's Pizza
Papa Johns
Cici's pizza
Pizza hut

and those are the ones off the top of my head, besides the obvious chains, i can't tell you which is a major chain and which isn't, i'm pretty sure at least half of them are not, as i've never seen them outside the state/area. But yes, out of all of those, Godfathers and freschetta frozen pizza's are the only two that i can eat consistently. (one summer our entire deep freezer was filled with probably 60-70 cheese pizza's, i ate em all personally before the summer was over.I'm honestly surprised i ever pooped considering how much cheese i had going through me)

Yeah, looks like a lot of those really are local joints, and I do mean joints, not chains. Weird that you stick with Godfathers and Freschetta, though. Although we don't really have Godfathers around here, so maybe it's one of those places that are pretty good despite being a chain, like Marco's. I know when I eat frozen pizza, I'm not exactly looking for something that tastes like the real deal, so I won't hold the Freschetta against you :p

Besides, if memory serves, it's one of the better brands of frozen, for people who like their frozen pizzas to taste like good pizza. I actually kind of like that processed taste you get with the cheap ones, in the same way you might like, say, soft serve ice cream, while still preferring real ice cream.

My main point initially was about going to the likes of Pizza Hut and Hungry Howies when you've got good local pizza, not necessarily the more upscale chains. Although even those are easily topped by really good local pizza, not every town has one. For some reason around here, the small towns have better pizza than the big cities -- I don't know of any truly good pizza places in Tampa, for example, but I know of several in my home town, which is much smaller and about an hours drive away.

[Sarcasm] Why yes! I can make for instance a Pizza Hut pizza in my own home with just a generic pizza recipe. It's not like there are countless secret ingredients often of specific quality and quanity thrown in that I couldn't possibly know about or even get my hands on if I did that makes it's taste and texture vastly different to anything I could possibly make at home or anything. [/Sarcasm]

TIMESWORDSMAN, if it were as simple to make say, a McRib or Chicken Selects or whatever in our own homes as you claim it is, fast food would never had caught on as an viable alternative to homecooked meals.
You've missed the point. Why would you want to recreate fast food? What I'm saying is, cooking for yourself isn't nearly as time intensive or difficult as people think, and if your gonna start complaining about the quality your preformed meat paste, it may be worth your while to see if your stove works.

I once got a Quarter Pounder from McDonalds here in Australia and the Bun was stale. Yes they have goon downhill, not because our tastebuds are evolving, but because they are lazy fuckwits that don't know the word quality.

well i can't say for sure, but in a place like tampa, isn't it expensive as hell to run a business(food wise) in the city? my city is pretty well spread out (and most of the pizza places are not in the business area)

That's actually a good point. I'm not sure how much it costs to run a restaurant in Tampa, but it might explain why the USF Gumby's shut down despite being a student favorite (cheap as the bigger chains but much better), and why there is apparently no good Chinese food in the entire city, unless you count the stuff in the mall food court. If you're ever down there, though, Skippers Smokehouse (which is a seafood restaurant/live music place/dive) has great food and is pretty cheap, and Mr. Dunderbaks has good but cheap German food and quite possibly the best beer list on the planet. We're talking dozens of beers on tap, and hundreds in bottles. So there's great food in the city, just little in the way of good pizza or Chinese, for some weird reason.

That being said i'm not difficult for food . As long as there is ketchup , i'll eat it. Except wendies , Wendies can die in a fire .
Are... are you human?

OT: The only fast food I've eaten recently is Tim Hortons (always delicious), Dairy Queen (OP agrees it's delicious) and Wendy's. I can't tell if the food quality of Wendy's is going down, because that would require me to taste it through the so, so delicious grease layer.

I can't tell if more common ones (McDonalds, Burger King, etc) are going downhill.

if your looking for good fast food, go to in and out. http://www.in-n-out.com/

its the best fast food i know of.

From the first bite of your burger to your last french fry, quality is the most important ingredient of all at
In-N-Out Burger. We don?t freeze. We don?t pre-package. We don?t over-process. We just make things the old-fashioned way.

Our commitment to quality starts with our hamburgers. And our burgers begin with our patties. We make them from fresh, 100% pure beef. They are free of additives, fillers and preservatives of any kind. But the focus on quality starts well before we deliver our hamburger patties to our stores. We own and operate our own patty-making facilities in Baldwin Park, California and Dallas, Texas. Since we only serve burgers, fries and drinks, making a high-quality hamburger patty is everything to us.

In-N-Out Burger ProduceWe have always made every one of our hamburger patties ourselves using only whole chucks from premium cattle selected especially for In-N-Out Burger. We pay a premium to purchase fresh, high-quality beef chucks. We individually inspect every single chuck we receive to make sure that it meets our standards. Then our highly skilled, in-house butchers remove the bones. We grind the meat ourselves and make it into patties ourselves. These steps enable us to completely control the patty-making process and be absolutely certain of the quality and freshness of every patty we make. We?ve always made our hamburger patties this way.

In-N-Out Burger ProduceOur commitment to quality doesn?t stop there. Our lettuce is hand-leafed. Our American cheese is the real thing. And we use the best available onions and the plumpest, juiciest tomatoes we can find. All of our ingredients are delivered fresh to our stores. In fact, we don?t even own a microwave, heat lamp, or freezer. We even bake our buns using old-fashioned, slow-rising sponge dough. And we make every burger one at a time, cooked fresh to order.

Of course a great burger deserves to be accompanied by great fries. And In-N-Out french fries come from the finest, freshest ingredients we can find?potatoes shipped right from the farm. They?re individually cut in our stores, then cooked in 100% pure, cholesterol-free vegetable oil. Our shakes are just as genuine. Because we know a real shake can only be made with real ice cream. At In-N-Out, that?s the only way we?ll ever make them. Because when all you serve is burgers, fries and drinks, doing things the old-fashioned way is the freshest idea of all.
The sick thing about this blatant advertisement is that i once hit up a former friend of mine who worked at In-n-out how he liked his job. He proceeded to basically give me the exact same reply. It was the creepiest thing he ever did. It haunted me ever since. Him going into wide eyed detail about how he "hand leafs the lettuce"(wth does that even mean?) still winds up in my nightmares.

That being said their burgers are amazing. They treat their employees better than pretty much any other fast food place from what i hear from people that work there. I just wish their fries weren't disgusting, and the employees were a little less brainwashed sounding.

As for the OP: I agree. Fast food does taste worse on the whole. I've been noticing it too. Just another case of getting worse quality with a higher cost with so many things we all buy. Meanwhile corporate profits are at all time high and pay stagnation for employees.
its on topic, thread about fast food getting worse and in and out stays great. and the employs advertise it because its great. in California there minimal wage is 10.50 hour and a big reason why there so good is cause the people who work there are glad to be there. the company treats there workers with respect and pays them a living wage. in return the customers love it cause the food is great, not only cause the ingredients but the people making it care about there job. any in and out is always crowded as hell. it can be 10 mins before closing and there be a line.

for the record i do not work or have any stakes in the company. its just imo the best fast food and a shining example of what fast food can be. and ya there fries suck, but thats because the make them healthier. (try there animal fries... they cost more but are very tasty)

and ya its basically advertising, but in a world full of fast food who treat there workers like garbage, i feel the need to let the world know there is another way. a way that makes every one happy including the bottom line of the company. and i hope more companies use that model. i feel as a consumer its our duty to tell other consumers about businesses that have high standards, and to shun businesses that have low standards (im looking at you kfc).

I'm not huge on fast food in terms of the big chains (McDonalds, Burger King, KFC) but I do get fish and chips every week and it has been fairly regular taste wise. Occasionally you get a crappily fried fish or soggy chips, but only once every few weeks. And I sometimes get a burger from this place near me and they are pretty good, cooked in front of you and actually have some flavour in them. Plus they will happily switch things like mayonnaise and BBQ sauce if that is what you want. They haven't been open long but they have been fairly consistent quality-wise although their prices went up a little bit last year, which I don't mind at all since the burgers are good and the service is too.

Probably once a year I find myself at a KFC in a service station with friends and it's fairly dismal. Slow service and the chicken is a bit horrible, but you are paying for what you get and the staff don't give a shit about you or your order. Whether that is a problem with KFC or the strange beasts that work there I am unsure.

Eh, can't say I've noticed. For a while I didn't eat fast food all that often, however now if I'm by myself, it's late, and I don't have a whole lot of money on me, then I'll get McDonald's. However, I keep to the same thing (McChicken and fries) for the most part (if it's that time of year again, I'm picking up a McRib even though it's so bad but good) and I haven't noticed any change in it.

Fast food has always tasted like the worst thing ever created by human beings. It hasn't tasted any worse lately, whenever I am in a situation where I have to eat it, it still makes me want to wretch.

I've never seen a fast food pizza that even came close to home made. A few local restaurants do some very nomable slices but fast food chains are terrible. Pizza hut is deferentially not better than what you can make at home, you just can't cook.

I miss fast food So much. So many good years eating such horrendous things like pizza so greasy it can make stucco translucent.

You quoted the wrong person, but I definitely agree. Home made pizza is the bomb.

So there's great food in the city, just little in the way of good pizza or Chinese, for some weird reason.
i haven't been to tampa in about 3-4 years, but if i do go there again (probably will, was quite a bit of fun compared to many of the other places i've been) i'll keep those in mind. I'm always open for new beers as long as they aren't as thick and dark as the bark outside on the trees. ugh.

i don't remember many if any grocery stores being in the city-side of tampa, do people just do tons of delivery or are their a bunch of hidden corner grocery stores that i missed?

i believe you meant to quote me, and yes i am a picky eater, which is why i usually don't like homemade pizzas, people put too much shit on em, and the dough never quite tastes right to me. but yes, i don't like pizza hut, if anything i'd eat every other pizza before i ate pizza hut, but i do quite like a few other chains (as mentioned, godfathers).

i'd be more than willing to try some "proper" home made pizzas, but the ones i've ever had so far i absolutely hated so i'm just gonna stick with what i like for now.

That's a good question about inner city Tampa. I mostly know the end down by USF (which is really closer to Temple Terrace than it is to downtown Tampa), but down there people just go to the major grocery stores. I'd imagine people closer to the center of the town drive or take the bus to places like Publix, Sweet Bay, and Walmart -- or if they're willing to overpay, Whole Foods. Florida as a whole isn't big on the whole local grocery store thing you see up North, and most of what we do have are primarily butcher's shops that cater to rural and/or poor people, not the kind of gourmet places you see in big cities in the rest of the country.

I can definitely state that St. Pete, right across the bay, is full of grocery stores. You may have just been looking for smaller local places that don't really exist in Florida outside of ethnic grocery stores and the aforementioned butcher's shops (which I guess could still be considered ethnic, if Southern can be considered an ethnicity.) It's really a car culture down here, what public transportation does exist, by and large, absolutely sucks, and is pretty much only used by the poor, the homeless, and people who have lost their license for one reason or another. Plus a few college kids (like me, at the time I was using it) who don't have a car yet. And that's first hand experience with our public transit and that of other states, not repeated rumors.

Also, Dunderbaks caters to people who like those darker beers, but they have some lighter beers on tap, too. You can get all sorts of lagers, including some pretty darned good pilsners (the kind of beer that the likes of Budweiser claim to be, but done right), as well as some nice pale ales. Personally I can't pass up a good dark ale, though. They pretty much always have at least one brand of Imperial Stout on tap, which is absolute heaven for those who like dark beer.
