I don't mind if those items are purely cosmetic. They're just bonuses. It annoys me, however, if those items offer even a bit of an advantage because anyone who didn't get the games won't get those items, and that breaks the balance.
An unfortunate problem inherent in the game is that you don't have the option of running a server without the new weapons and whatnot. Basically, the only way to play vanilla is to get everyone to agree to do so. Any enforcement of such a thing would have to be done by the players themselves.Amishdemon said:I'm sure you could find a server that plays vanilla only.Murray Whitwell said:It went too far with the Pyro update. And there is still no vanilla mode to fix it.
Ummm, you realize that the only difference between the "genuine" version and "regular" one is the title, right? They have the exact same gameplay attributes no matter which one you use.Flipped Beanie said:You just have to hope Valve isn't going to pull the Rift shit again. If you bought Rift, you got "genuine" versions of the weapons. If you crafted them, you got the shittier versions of the weapons. As long as Valve doesn't pull that again, item-lovers, go nuts. I stopped playing TF2 long time ago.
Which they are... they're cosmetic. And the cool thing about the TF2 economy is that the weapons are worth considerably less than hats so if there's a weapon you want (which can give you an advantage) you can just craft it or trade it while the expensive stuff is no more than a status symbol in a sort of mini-game of seeing who can collect the most hats. The best part? You don't have to participate.KarmaTheAlligator said:I don't mind if those items are purely cosmetic. They're just bonuses. That's really not so bad then, as long as everyone has a shot at the non-cosmetic ones without having to buy separate games. As for hats, well they do nothing so I don't mind them being limited edition items.Kajt said:You can craft the Rift weapons. Which is why it is fine at the moment. The only problem they are adding is over saturation at the moment. That doesn't mean in time or in a nother game they might change their mind about this. All I am saying is this could easily be a slippery road.bahumat42 said:they areGlademaster said:As a couple of people have said a vanills aserver would be nice. I wasn't around when TF2 was vanilla but even I think they are going a bit too far with the weaponry and hats. Hats aren't too bad but any weapon should be availabe without having to preorder something.
hell i got the samurai weapon yesterday as a random drop.
ALL ITEMS are in the random drop rotation AND are craftable.

If I could just get an auto quote box for everything you've said in this thread that'd be great.Deshara said:The part that makes Valve stand out among all game developers for me is that they haven'tTomo Stryker said:When will Valve stop updating TF2?
