Poll: Have you ever had a nickname?

I personally don't have any nicknames, but my friends have a few amusing ones.

One of my friends is called Third Place because a few years he went to a tennis tournament and came back with a shirt that said "third place" on it. He has since gone back and won first place in that tournament, but the nickname has stuck.

Another one of my friends, who is Chinese, is called Scott, and I have absolutely no idea why.

I also know someone called Boner, because his last name is Bohn.

Jeeves.

During the first couple years of high school, I did up all three buttons of my uniform shirt, when everyone else only did up one, or none. This made me look very prim/proper/stuffy, and so people took to calling me Jeeves.

I wouldn't mind it if the nickname didn't remind me of how ridiculous I looked.

There was also Skeletor, on account of me being as thin and pale as a skeleton. But that wasn't nearly as common as Jeeves.

A few years back, I used to work in the local safeway's deli department. I wasn't in the habit of bringing cold lunches to work (food had a mysterious habit of disappearing from the employee fridge) so I'd usually buy something from work for a buck or two for lunch. One item I'd buy often was called a "Souper Bowl," which was basically a cup of noodles on steroids. They were actually quite tasty, and filling as well.
So my lunch break comes along, and I go buy my Souper Bowl. (Cajun style shrimp flavor, yum!) I head to the break room, and toss the bowl in the mircrowave for 5 minutes, and start chatting with my coworkers. About 3 minutes later, the meat department manager points out that there's smoke billowing out from the microwave.

I don't know if you've ever smelled burnt spices before, but it's a distinctly unpleasant scent. It actually has a burning sensation, and triggers your gag reflex.
Now, this Safeway wasn't a huge one, only 7 check stands or so, so my burnt lunch quickly stunk up the entire building. It got so bad that the produce manager actually had to spray air freshener all over the check stands. This stench? it lingered. It lingered for 4 days. We couldn't even use the break room, because the smell was so strong, even with the windows open.
So, they started calling me Sparky for that. 'Cause I lit my lunch on fire.
The worst part? I never did get lunch that day.

Quasimodo ... for being, frankly, 'semi-normal'


Add to this list all manner of cusses and insults, but they don't really count as being nicknames I guess.

I've had a couple of 'em. Used to be called Teleport Man, just 'cos I used to be so all over the place it gave people the chills. They'd see me enter a building, walk the other way and then see me exit the building across the yard. And all I did was take walks.

In the military, I was mostly referred to as (translated for your reading pleasure) Mr. Sub-Sergeant. It's a direct translation of the title, it's a rough equivalent of Corporal. To my squad, and my squad only, I was known as Eki. It was a nickname derived from my last name. It was quite refreshing to hear this particular nickname again, when I hooked up with some old army buddies a few months back. Just hearing it brought me back.

Also, in the women's barracks, I was referred to as Uncle Eki, as a term of... Well, we'll just leave it at that.

Not many call me by my real name either. In Sweden you'll be called "Danne" if you're named Daniel. We do that with lots of names.

Never, my name is one syllable, four letters, already pretty uncommon and I have a terribly generic last name. No nickname successfully sticks, the longest was "Goose" in primary school (more for the way I ran, not a Top Gun reference).

I have had way too many over the years to remember, much less list. I played sports(most of them) and have always been a big guy(6'8", 250lbs currently and I used to be bigger) and a pretty weird guy too. Here goes:
Big Easy, Easy Money, Coolbreeze, Big Dawg, Giant(practically was my name first two years in college), Assassin, and a bunch of others fitting the same basic pattern. I guess when you hang out with so many different groups you get multiple nicknames that are generally close. Thought I would remember more than I did. I probably will today because things like that drive me insane

I go by Bobby even though my legal name is Robert. Not too original but the strange thing is that my parents have *never* called me Robert, not once. This is made doubly-strange by the fact that my Dad named me Robert for a specific reason: so that I'd be named after Robert Anthony Plant of Led Zeppelin.

Lets see... one of my co workers called me Harry Potter (I had the hair and glasses thing going at the time) until I started calling him Shingles (he had it at the moment). I hated it. Then they switched to Grizzly, for my crazy beard. It never really stuck beyond working at Circuit City. I always figured that if you want a nickname to stick, when you introduce yourself to people you should do it like such.

In my Japanese class I shortened my last name from Litman to Rito, it was much simpler for everyone to say.

Sure do. It's only the shortened version of my name though(Cameron->Cam). I have been called Killa' Cam by a couple people but it hasn't stuck. Thankfully.

One night, one girl calls Peter because I remind her of that character from the Narnia movie/book series...

and apparently I look like him, so imagine him as a 17 year old and thats me.

My best friend still calls me that rarely.

Rodney by some who think I look like Rodney Trotter.
John "T" because my French teacher started calling me it and then it caught on with the people in that class.
Johnny Bravo. My name's Jonny, that's all really.
John Connor because of all the resistance, albeit passive, that I gave to the school's new administration, usually regarding uniform and being able to talk my way out of anything.

Everyone else, who didn't have any real association to make, just used my last name.

Closest thing is Nam because people can't be arsed saying Nam Woon, my full name.

A girl from my class used to call me "Fluffy" because of my fuzzy hair. Thankfully it didn't really catch on and she is still the only one who calls me that.
