Elika from Prince of Persia. She helped you across platforms, she saves you from death, she helps you in combat and most of all she doesn't get in the way. What's not to like?

Dogmeat ^_^
Curses you got there before me. Anyway, yeah Dogmeat was the only character that I was really upset for when he died...stupid dog running into super mutants...
I got Broken Steel specifically for the "PUPPIES!" Perk :)

Yeah... Dogmeat. Fawkes was useful, but I'll be damned if he didn't steal all my kills... <.<

The dog in fable 2.

Not because he was useful, but because he's so cute.

When I was going to fight Lucien, I was pumped, and shot right when I got in there. Of course, I expected more of a fight, but hey. Whatever.

in Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst you get many different sidekicks depending on which quest you do. some are more useful than others but generally they are really good

Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank. I liked the comedic relief sidekicks in those games. Oh, and Donald and Goofy from Kingdom Hearts.

Err.. the irritating cutscenes, the difficulty of actually using her in combat and the fact that
you have to ressurect her at the end of the game, which means that you did the whole game for nothing!

I just made an account to reply to this thread so. Yeah. :p

My favourite sidekick I would consider Gaz from Call of Duty 4 - Although not your side kick he is a side kick to Captain Price.
From a gameplay point of view: He never gets in your way, he can kill things, he doesn't waste your ammunition.
From a emotional background: He's a amusing character, I fealt attached to him at the end, I hope to see him return somehow in Modern Warfair two which is unlikely as his brains are splattered over a bridge in Russia.

I also quite liked Alyx Vance as she had a good way of developing the story and forcing you, Gordon Freeman, to save her light headed attitude from extinction.
From a gameplay point of view, I've never had issues with her stopping me from getting through doors, I walk up to her she goes "awh sorry" and pisses off somewhere, she has no direct contact with my ammunition or health leaving Gordon Freeman to Gordon Freeman as much as Barney would argue otherwise.
From a emotional point of view: I enjoyed her fun and relaxed attitude to the oncoming slaughter and her inability to stay out of trouble. Whilst at times it got tedious I suspect a entire game based on the Historic Level from CoD4 would make me want to cry.

And last but not least: Every single brainless gaumless idiot of a Security Guard from Black Mesa in half life 1. After they open my door, I blow their brains out and get some ammunition aswell as a good laugh.

Irritating cutscenes? You're not forced to talk to her. Those little cutscenes are optional
Well at least the ending was a shocker.

I got that perk, but they will never replace dog meat.

I watched a few of them to attempt to find out what was actually going on, but eventually gave up gecause they are SO IRRITATING!

I am probably just biased agains her because of the ending.

Shadow of the Colossus.

Agro.

When he falls off that crumbling ledge, I was horrified. I proceeded to kick that final colossus' ass.
AGREED.

Yessss... I was running into that final battle all like, "HULK SMAAAASH!!!" and then I got laser beam'd to death. But I figured out how to kill that thing pretty quickly, and it was sweet, sweet revenge for my beloved horsey.
He's also fun to kill when you're wearing the invisibility cloak. ;]

Dogmeat. I'm a total dog person.

Your Dark Brotherhood follower in Oblivion.

Also, I don't know if this counts but me and a total stranger were playing on the same team on CoD4. We were in sync in everything. We popped around a corner and saw a guy, and immediately shot him in the face. Right after killing him we both took cover behind these crates or trash cans or whatever it was and reloaded simultaneously. I wish my actual friends that I play with had his teamwork skills.

I never remembered his GT. :(
