March Madness is supposed to be to increase hits on the site. They probably encourage companies to publish the competition on their site.

I don't know. Even if we do gather the people on the Steam forums it can't compete with a an advertisement in a games launcher.
I've said it before and I will say it again:

You do realize that Turbine can make all the appeals they want to try to "call in reinforcements," as if we are some sort of mindless drone-being, they could even put a recuring message in the global system that says "VOTE FOR TURBINE," (which they haven't) but it wouldn't matter a lick if we didn't like them. The fact is that we are here to support our developer because we like them. Some of us, me included, have taken the chance to enjoy a new community. If you look at some of the new posters from Turbine, you will see that we are assimilating with the Escapist crowd. Luckily, I've taken a look around the rest of the forums and found them pretty welcoming. But I pity the new poster who comes here looking to enjoy a competition only to find a bunch of self-important veterans who act like old men remeniscing about times before all these newfangled youngin's came 'round.

I shall now sit back wait for a mod to close this thread.
I don't see what your point it. There was an add in the launcher that made you come to the sight. That is the only reason Turbine has more voters.

Also why would a mod lock this? It's a thread that would get more people to come to the Escapist.

Valve is overrated in my opinion. Their going the Square Enix route and only making one type of game. Besides they dont need help, their fan base is huge on The Escapist.
But the people that answered Turbine's call appears to be bigger in number.
im sure the moderators might do something to make the voting fair.
Mods encouraged Turbine and others to put this stuff on their launchers.

They don't give a shit who wins they just want more more hits.

This whole March Mayhem thing is bullshit. It would be fine if it was an actual representation of the Escapist's views, but the influx of Turbine fans just to help Turbine completely corrupts it. It makes it pointless and frustratingly futile to support anyone besides Turbine. So I'm not worrying about it.
True. I'm rather disappoint at the Escapist's handling of this. I for one would like to see the page views for this site and see if it has gone up with the votes for Turbine. If there is evidence showing that they are corrupting the system by getting a bunch of their members to vote then I'm gonna be pissed. Especially since the only game Turbine has chugged out was that LOTR MMO when compared to Valve's 9 exceptional games.

Yes, there was an add in the launcher. Yes it is the reason I am here (actually, it isn't but for the time being, I'll play along. Look a little further in the post to see what I mean). But why would I come if I didn't care enough about my game and community? It is just as easy to ignore those little messages and log right in...We are here because we like our game and our developer. If Turbine had never put out a message, word would have gotten out on the forums eventually (the first I heard of it was actually a user on the forums) and I would have made my way over here. Do you seriously think I or the 'legions of Turbine's Brainless Automatons' would take all the effort to come to this site and register if we felt that the game was crud and the developers didn't care a lick? That's my point and I think I put it pretty well.

Umm....how is a thread that is self contained in The Escapist going to draw more people here?

It amazes me how many anti-Turbine posts contain these words.

If Turbine can get so much support maybe the games are worth trying? They all have free trials. Are Turbine the only developer informing their community about March Mayhem or are they simply the one that gets the best response?

I've been a gamer for going on 20 years, I've played many different types of game but I've never seen a gaming community that's so closed off to trying something new.

This.

That is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. No doubt, VALVe would win if it was left to the Escapists. But now it's just a competition to find out who can advertise the Escapist better.

Think about it: Turbine's community is web-based. VALVe's community is largely not. So which side is more likely to garner support from the Internet community? What a crock.

Even if I supported Turbine here, I'd still feel cheated. It's not an accurate representation of the Escapist.

Where's the option that says "I want Valve to win and voted for them but I'm not going to go troll other forums over it"?

I agree with you.

But I have to say that you're the exception of a lot of other people that came here just to vote. And there are a lot of people that act just as mindless drones (for all developers, not just for Turbine). And even if those "self-important veterans" can be annoying, they surely have a good argument in this whole thing. They have been in The Escapist more time than you and me, and they have seen a lot of massive migrations to this forum (excluding, of course, the 4chan raid)

Also, probably a lot of other people said this to you a lot of times (you even have more posts than me), but... Welcome to The Escapist.

I still don't understand why you said all of that. It was totally irrelevant.

Also this thread is telling people to go make threads on Valve forums about the MM. So it does spread word about the Escapist.

I haven't said I hate them, but I am voting for the things that are familiar to me.
Maybe I should play some Turbine games (even if I generally dislike MMORPGs) to form a more solid argument against them, but meanwhile I'm supporting VALVe.

No game is worth 15$ a month. They are not worth trying.

I'm not sure how we are 'corrupting the system.' I can't tell you how many times the mods at this site have said they contacted all the developers involved to tell them this content was going on and that they were given full discresion as to what to do with that info.

I empathize with your position, I really do. But you are just factually wrong here. Turbine has developed 3 seperate titles. They are undergoing some datacenter moves right now otherwise I would point you to their website.

We have LOTRO, probably Turbine's biggest MMO. It is quite literally Middle-Earth come to life. The game they have crafted is truly visually beautiful and the gameplay they have put together is fun. I'd recommend you give it a try! You may like it. The website is lotro.com and there is a 10 day free trial. Check out this video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rstCk0DRrU) to see some of the sites of LOTRO.

We have DDO, which is truly unique among MMORPGs. It is not your standard tank and spank MMO. It requires strategy and actual skill. You can dodge attacks by enemies (rare in an MMO) and use your groups to your particular best use. I haven't played it, but there are others around here who have who I am sure will be more than happy to share their experiences.

We also have Asheron's Call, which has been around for 10 years. Tell me that isn't a sucessful title?

Sometime in the next 24 hours, Turbine will finish their datacenter move. I would highly recommending checking out what they have to offer before you put them down. You may be pleasently surprised.

I was talking to Virgil on the Escapist's IRC Channel earlier today, and he said that site traffic had increased an estimated 5% in daily numbers and 20% in weekly numbers in terms of people visiting the site. At least I believe that's the estimates. I know that the 20% is right, but the daily estimate is either 2% or 5%.

DND, LoTR, MMO’s. These are 3 things that I am in no favor of what so ever. I don’t like any of them, but I will not knock Turbine for making “bad games.” They are just games that don’t appeal to me. Valve makes games (with the counterstrike acceptation) that I thoroughly enjoy. If valve cared they would advertise on a steam news announcement, and could probably crash The Escapist with all of its hits. Whatever tho, I just don’t like this situation.

If I may ask, why does every other post out of you Turbine guys sound like an overenthusiastic advertising for Turbine games? I don't know about the rest of the escapists, but it annoys the heck out of me. I think escapists will be less hostile if you guys sound more like people interested in the community, and less like a school paper on 'why Turbine Roxxors'.

Alright. I apologise for that exaggeration, but I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

To the OP: I don't care if you haven't played Turbine's games. That's fine. I donn't care if you voted for Valve. But Flaming and baiting and accusing people of cheat, then we get mad. Vote for what you like.

To say a company sucks without playing one of their games, is wrong also. I have played HL, and TEam Fortress, and hated both. I liked Portal alot. I have played DDO for three years so Turbine gets my vote. I have never once said Valve sucks or any of the sort. But I have to deal with alot of people saying that about Turbine.

Just stop the flame wars and general nastiness, please.
