Valve simply doesn't deserve my help. They made one average game that PC gamers hyped up an only now are they finally making good games.

While I do not like HL, alot of people do. Portal was awesome. And while I don't know (or played) their entire catalog, I think it is one than one hyped up game.

If you think you made it up, fine. That is your opinion. I really do not want to over the threads at this time.
I'm sorry but I don't really understand what you're saying, although I think I get the gist of it.

The Escapist Veterans, some people I would call buddies, do not try and make this forum a bad place for newcomers. We might be Deja-Nazis, Grammar Nazis, stupid poll haters, fast post haters, picture thread haters, stupid review haters, 'sarcastic' comment haters, TL;DR haters, troll haters, flamer haters etc but we are definitely not the sort of people that hate a person because of their choice in developer or game.

I admit that the Escapist is elitist but it is only elitist in some aspects such as spelling, we don't care about you're choice in developer, especially in Off-topic where we don't talk about Videogames.

Off-topic a bit: This thread shouldn't have been made, MM should stay inside MM. Good to see that some people that came for March Madness are checking out the other forums though.

I made an account there but can't yet post for some unknown reason.... Don't get me wrong, I think that Turbine is a fine developer and I beta tested LotR Online, but I have a badge riding on this, damnit!

No wonder Turbine beat Bethesda, that was way too much of an upset, now I know why. Screw Turbine.

Agreed. But I haven't been here enough to know what is the norm, here. Look, Most of os didn't come here for a fight. Many Turbine fans are Valve fans, too. But we picked our favourite. What we don't get is the abject hostility towards newcomers.

If I called another player a (insert demeaning word here) on the forums cuz he voted for a video (we have a video contest running) I didn't like, that would be autobanned. We came here for fun and interest, and got pickforks burning at the stake attutide from the so called "Veterans" (I am saying this in deferance to Fire deamon and others, who seem to not want us run out of town) of t he site.

So, again, a little defensive. I apologise if that set anyone off, I am rarely like that. (If you don't believe me, when the DDO forums come back up, check it out. SAme forum name.) Really. I have been here for months, just never signed up. I will be staying, cuz I am stubborn.

While I am saddened by the amount of 1-post wonders Turbine has, some of the people coming here are nice, legitimate people, on their way to becoming part of our community.

And people don't understand that there's a lot of Relic fans coming here too. And a lot of Blizzard fans too...

Etc, etc.

Of course it's not going to accurately represent the views of our older members. If it was, it would only be for people from before the join date. The idea is that the new people become part of the escapist, and then it -becomes- an accurate representation, or at least I'd think so, over time.

Anyway, VALVe already has enough supporters who have enough passion to post all over every other forum known to man.

At least, I'd think so. Time will tell, yeah?

I emailed valve on what they thought of the contest they replied:

We've always left fixing elections to the bad guys.
I guess valve has spoken...or at least to me.

March Madness is supposed to be to increase hits on the site. They probably encourage companies to publish the competition on their site.
As a site that covers gaming, I'd think that the Escapist is happy that so many people from all over the gaming community would sign up to vote for their current favourite developers. Increasing traffic here is a better business model than doing things only for the older vocal subscribers.

I've got this site bookmarked for insights on upcoming games and general gaming news, because I'm a gaming nut. However, I tend to read gaming websites rather than post on them. I'm going thru a bit of an aberration atm while my kid is home sick. ;)

In spite of this cute contest bringing me here, I'm unlikely to get superduper veteran status by becoming an entity on the message boards. Even on DDO boards I post extremely rarely.

I suspect that there are lots of people like me who sign up for gaming sites for interesting reading material. We're just not in the category that is vocal and racks up their post-counts.

Live and let live! It's fun to be an enthusiastic gamer! :)
