How about King of Overcompensation? He needs a huge and powerful sword because he has a small penis and feels inadequate as a result. Could be a plot driving mechanic and give your game an element of comedy.

I think it would be important to stick with a simple one word title; games like 'Braid' & 'Limbo' have done this very effectively. Something like, 'Forger' or 'Swordsmith'. Or, you said that the sword is needed to be fit for a king. How about Kingdom Blade? (actually, that sounds quite good!)

A Sword Fit For A King sounds like a proper indie title.
And it sounds appropriate without being too vague and pretentious.

Hello fellow Escapists!

I started my own video game studio and we are a team of 5 developing our first title for XBLIG/Steam. We're having a hard time finding a title for our project.

The game is about a sword that must be enchanted in many ways to become strong enough to be worthy of the King. It isn't focused on the story, the hero doesn't even have a name. It's really more of an exploration game in which there are many different possibilities of sword "builds", much like character builds in RPGs. The goal is simply to start a few different games and check how the different powers combine together and test out the results in a few dungeons.

The game has a working title, which is Swordcraft, and we'd rather not call it that for many reasons. But if it resonates more with our audience than anything else, we might keep it anyway.

So here you go, tell us what you think and if you have a better suggestion, please share it in the comments!
...you could just call it "Forgery" or something like that. A pun title.

if you can't find another name i would go with swordcraft and a subtitle so it doesn't get too bland.

You could give the sword an amusing name and just name it after that.
Example: Pointy justice or somethin'.

Is there any art that you are allowed to show? Giving people an idea of the visual style might help them to choose or come up with a title.

I voted for Sword Craft.
Maybe have Swordcraft and then as a sub title A Sword Fit for a king.

Oh wow thanks everyone for the replies, I went out for just an hour and I've already received some very insightful feedback. This is why I like Escapist's community :)

Oh and for those who didn't get it, SWO is a pun; being an incomplete spelling of SWOrd, we found it somewhat clever and catchy in the studio but weren't sure that it would catch on. We're definitely open to more suggestions though, and we'll consider what we heard so far as well.

I agree with this. If it's a fruity happy looking game (like...castle crashers or that Halloween game form Double fine) Then it's going to have a COMPLETELY different name then a brooding dark fantasy game like Dragon Age.

If it's the former, may I suggest something playful like "A Sword's Story"? If the Sword will have a specific name, you could just name it that?

This will probably be stupid, but how about The S Word?

From the list, I'd choose A Sword Fit for a King but shorten it. Fit for a King? Sword for King? Er, Kingsword?

Drop "Sword". "Fit For a King" sounds nice.

You can look it up on our website, you can find us via facebook or google without too much troubles. I intend to comply by the forum rules so I won't post any link here though, sorry about that.

I'd say keep searching. None of these really roll of the tongue.

Well, except Swordcraft I guess.

I actually really like "Hilt" (another escapist mentioned it), but Swordcraft is still fine though
