I find the majority of people shouting "noob" are the worst noobs themselves. I find they tend to yell that at me after I blast them to pieces for the 5th time in a row.

I'm a noooooooob in some games (ok, most games) but I own a sucky old computer so I can't play most of them anymore, but I play at my friend's houses. My friends are level 18,9, and 8. I'm level 6.
(I mean noob as in newbie, for those who are confused of the definition.)

I'm going to pull out a WoW reference to explain how I feel about this one. My warlock (viewed by many as the most asshole class out there along with rogues ((wanna guess what my other character was?))) was running around Netherstorm which is a 69-70 level zone, by chance I noticed a little level 64 alliance running around lost as hell in this dangerous place. I came up to him and saved him from a few elementals and did a /beckon and I showed him his way back to town and along the way stopped two or three horde for raping the poor shit out of this random (he was flagged for PvP). He logged off and I shortly got a whisper from him thanking me for my help and saying that he was new to the Outlands and was just exploring, got lost and didn't have his hearthstone(kinda like a scroll of town portal but only one way). Now, I've had many experiences like this where I would go ahead and save an alliance from a creature or help with a world boss or something. It usually paid off in the end because they would in turn help me out if they ever saw me in combat.

I try and help the new guys whenever I can (once I have gotten past the awkward phase of being a new guy in that game myself) Its always very endearing watching them gradually get better as time goes on (of course they hardly ever thank you, but the game itself is usually based solely on shooting other people in the face so I'm not entirely suprised)

n00b, don't help. Or do, but help to string them up by their ankles and beat them

Newb, help as long as I'm not particularly doing something else or on a vendetta against someone.

The distinction is this: If n00b is fighting alongside you, and you save their ass (flank, throwback a grenade/ w/e), they will just run off. A Newb will thank you.

If you offer advice to a n00b who's getting annialated (a sniper "keep moving, it makes you harder to hit"), they will have a go at you. A Newb will take your word (as the more experienced player) and take it into consideration.

and finally: The round has finished. You fought against significantly better players, and got your ass handed to you. A n00b will let off a volley of swears at HIS OWN TEAM (the ones that lost), before ragequitting or swapping teams. A newb will ask if there was any problems with what they were doing, and can they do any better.

Actually, there was a definition on a thread the other day that I read... "A n00b is a player who refuses to learn how to play better from others. A newb is a player who has not had the chance to learn yet."

General thread consensus:
Noobs = steamroll, gank, moil, crush, etc. Usually with extreme prejudice.
Newbs = help...unless they're on the other team then destroy and joke about it after.

We were all n00bs once, so if they ask sensible questions i tend to lend a hand, if they ask stupid questions i give stupid answers and send them off in the wrong direction for half an hour...

If they ask nicely, and can spell + use correct grammar when typing, I help all I can. But if they start TKing, they're fair game

Noobs don't bother me. They quickly learn and are no longer noobs.

What bothers me is stupid people. Like people who play Day of Defeat but never, ever go for the objectives. Even a noob can figure out that you are supposed to STOP THE BOMB GOING OFF, yet some people just sit there, right next to it, doing nothing. Looking the other way pretending it's 'not their job'.

Those people meet my friend Barry Anhammer.

"Press F10 for buy menu."

Seriosly though, I try to help if someone seems to be in need of help.
