Like everyone's saying, series 1 is incredible. Series 2 is passable but not great. Series 3 is almost and maybe just as good as series 1. Gonna get series 3 on dvd in sept

I love the show. As far as the hating on season 2, you have to remember that the season got cut short due to the Hollywood writers strike, so it might be a bit lacking.

First season was fresh and inventive, but its just gone downhill. Now I just can't be bothered.

Season 2 went downhill a bit, but picked up at the end of the final episode.
Season 3 was split into 2 parts, with the second being much better than the first as some of the characters reverted to what they were like in the first season.

This is all my opinion though, you might think totally different.
i think pretty much everyone agrees with you on this....

but i do love it still i have faith that season 4 will get better... (i'm rather foolish like that)

I liked it intially, but it suffers from LOST syndrome, in that the writers are clearly making it up as they go along.

Agreed, I kind of went "meeh" with Heroes the same way I went "meeh" with Lost. Maybe I'll pick up both again one day.

Season Three (volume 1, I guess) was crap. I blame the writer's strike for that. It seems to be improving though. I am anxiously awaiting the next Season, especially since they finished the last one on such a great note.

24 (the first series at least)
Thats laughable, considering 24 is now on its 8th season, whereas LOST has been confirmed as ending after season 6, something confirmed during season 3.
Read comment, first season specifically mentioned, not the other 7. Series 2 onwards were daft I agree but the first managed a degree of brevity you don't see in most US shows.

After that it falls into the same pattern of increasingly dumb/improbable/insane contrivances to keep things going. Lost is only ending early (it was slated for at least 10 series) because it fell on it's arse so badly once it became apparent nothing was going anywhere and the plot may as well be a series of random events. It's pretty much the embodiment of carry on as long as people watch syndrome.

The first one was really good. I kinda liked the second one too, with some nice time travelling things but like in most series, it wasn't as good as the first one. Haven't seen the 3rd one, they haven't shown it in Finland yet.

First season was pretty cool, but everyting that followed was mediocre Buffy-the-vampire-slayer nonsense.

God, season one was fucking awesome.
It really made me think that super hero type shows could actually work.
Then came season 2... my fucking god. How do you go from "HOLY FUCK THIS ROCKS" to "What the fuck is this shit? Did Uwe Boll or Michael Bay take over this show" In 3 episodes is beyond me.
Writers strike. The season got cut in half and the original writer left at the end of season 1 to go and make Pushing Daises (good call mate, good call >_>).

Then he came back halfway through season 3. This is why everyone says Season 1 is incredible, and season 2 is lacking, while half of season 3 is awesome.

Oh, and the original writer left again. Yes again. Either way, I loved season 1, 2 just pissed me off because of it's length, and 3 was good stuff, especially the bloody climax, that just left me WTFing for a bit.

Urgh, I hate it. I found the first series to be nothing more than a slow, dull, predictable version of X-Men and the second season was even worse. I really don't know what people see in it.

Because of time travel and people changing the future, you keep ending up with different plots every season, and sometimes more than 1 per season, which kind of ruins the series a bit. It's still very good despite that, because it has lovable characters, very good acting and alot of imagination. I would recommend it to everyone who hasn't seen it.

This pretty much sums up everything I was going to say.

First series had a genuine threat, great twists, an actually threatening villain, good character development and such.

Series 2, had none of that. Only good bit was the Hiro bit in ancient Japan. Series 3 (volume 3) was awful. Volume 4 was also tiresome.

24 (the first series at least) was great in this respect as you knew regardless that everything would be over in 24 episodes and that would be that, no staring into the infinite bollocks.

So what if its in the 8th season?
Every season is independent from each other, the continuity is very limited, so in fact it's like a different series every season, except that it keeps some of the characters.
So, the story is always over in 24 episodes, the continuity and cliffhangers are too minor in comparison to the main story every season.

My opinions match those of pretty much everyone else here. Season 1 was tightly plotted, well-paced, and had a great villain in the enigmatic, insane Sylar. Season 2... boy oh boy. Since then it became wildly inconsistent, with plot points being picked up and dropped from episode to episode, and character motivation varying wildly, even within the same episode.

It's like the series deteriorated as it's villains got less interesting. First you have Sylar, an unstoppable serial killer. Then you have Adam Monroe and the Nightmare Man, interesting concepts botched on delivery. Then you had Arthur 'God-Mode' Petrelli, a villain without a motivation, killing more interesting characters or draining them of their powers, slapping Hiro into a ridiculous 'I am 10 years old' subplot and giving the Petrelli family tree yet more drama.

Series 1 was good, but my god are the other ones getting tedious. I heard a rumour that the next series is going to do some very stupid things.

Edit: I'm even a little tempted to not watch it anymore.

Count me in with the others who loved it the first season, mellowed out, then loved it again later on down the road. I still have hopes for the series, though, as the web shorts and comics are still as fantastic as the show that premiered.
