I hate them. One of my friends acts like that, she always says she knew of a band before they got popular so she thinks that makes her important.
I hate it when people stop liking something just because it got popular, they must have never been fans to begin with.

I tend to find them annoying in principle. Jumping ship on a band as soon as they go mainstream just shows how much of an idiot you are and does not help the band in question in anyway what so ever.
I live in the UK and I dont see them very often but if your in Edinburgh you will find them (along with the emo kids) hanging around the starbucks on the royal mile and generally in the area of old town in Edinburgh, except during the festival when the fringe takes over a stretch of the royal mile and the place is swmped with tourists.

Hipsters? I didn't know what they were until I read this thread. I always just called them "Cunts".
You rather sound like one, judging by your knowledge of the hipster paradox, stating that we are jealous of hipsters, and using the words 'corporate' and 'consumerist'. Honestly, those are buzzwords. Just because I associate myself with certain artistic and cultural things doesn't mean i'm a blind conformist, it doesn't make a hater of all other culture, it doesn't make me a douchebag, it doesn't make me subhuman, it doesn't make me despise anyone who isn't in the same "scene" as me.
I'm not that shallow.
I do respect people who are individuals however, I'd be more likely to interact with someone who looks like an interesting, cultured, intelligent person than someone who just looks exactly like everybody else.

Honestly, I think it's someone mocking hipsters by semi-trolling. This way, they can make fun of hipsters, while pissing people off. Having their cake and eating it too. Of course, since the user is trolling ironically, there's a very good chance they are a hipster, since hipsters love irony.Zetsubou said:

Funny you make this thread, because for the longest time I imagined most people on the Escapist as Hipsters.
I absolutely hate the stereotypical hipster, which many many of them seem to be, because they act as if they are incredibly open minded and on the cutting edge of art, music, and fashion, yet are ironically incredibly closed minded about anything and are extremely petty about most everything and fucking HAVE to be right about absolutely anything that they talk about. So I'd agree with you're calling them douche bags. =-)
