Hellooooooooooooooooooooo my escapist friends....and whatever that is on the floor.

[HEADING=2]*SQUIIIIR*[/HEADING]

Now then there's this thing about Horror movies that has irked me for an extremely elongated period of time. And that is the constant need to catch the audiences attention with unnecessary sex appeal of any kind.
Example: The remake of Friday the 13th. I could not tell you how many times I wanted to just yell "Fuck it" and leave. Call me a psychotic and twisted individual if you want, but the presence of Tits and Ass completely destroys any atmosphere of dread for me along with my hopes of seeing anyone get hacked to gooey and bloody pieces. Although it does make it that much sweeter to see them get killed off in such a vulnerable fashion at times.
Honestly though, my main complaint is this. I'm not one of these "OMIGOSH SEX IS BAD! IT CORRUPTS OUR CHILDREN AGHAHLAJDLKAJ" type of people. I'm one of these "Goes to a horror movie because I want it to be scary and bloody and terrifying" type of people. It gets annoying after awhile and only makes you wish the scantily clad Bimbo gets eviscerated in the utmost brutal fashion.

Hollywoods constant need for trying to have some sexual appeal in horror movies really and I mean reeeeeeeeally sets me off. Kinda makes it unenjoyable at times and I know I'm ranting, but there have been a few decent Horror movies that try and avoid the every so easy "Hook them in with a Hot Chick Method" or the Obligatory Multiple Sex Scenes, but rather incorporate the sense of dread and fear.

- Aliens
- John Carpenter's The Thing
- Pet Semetary
- The Mist
- The Shining
- Hellraiser 1 and 2
- Pan's Labyrinth
- Justin Bieber's Never Say Never

What I'm trying to say is that maybe if Hollywood tries and focuses more on building suspense and dread (Without a predictable Jump Scare) instead of trying to lure us in with a few pretty faces or pornstars (Piranha 3-D and Shark Night suffer from this) then we can see some really potent and well made horror movies.
And before anyone Says anything.
I know H.R. Giger was one of the few Individuals who could sexualize horror and help it preserve its twisted presence

So my Question to you is this:

[HEADING=1] Should Horror Movies try and avoid the easy Sex Appeal to bring in an audience?[/HEADING]

[HEADING=2] And now Noob with the Daily Opinion:[/HEADING]

I dont think they do to be good, but Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and the like arent really serious horror movies. I mean, maybe the first few were, but back in that day, sexual content was somewhat rampant in movies attracting the audience those movies went after.

Any of the newish ones are more just camp appeal then anything else really.

Was Piranha 3D ever advertised as a horror film of any sort?

And Kelly Brook getting naked is nothing to frown at.

You're not talking about horror movies, you're talking about "Slashers".

And all Slashers suck except for The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Sexual content is up there among jump scares and gore in the "things in horror that are just too easy and overdone and should therefore be minimized" category.

It's fine if the sex is actually related to the horror (like Pyramid Head being a representation of James's sexual frustration in SH2), but usually it's not. So it's just lame.

You have a definite point, but the problem is that slashers get advertised as Horror movies and considering I've yet to come across a good recent horror movie then yeah. I'm kinda dried out here.

....wait. Damn you know what though? You're right. Oh well, maybe I was just looking for something to complain about. I blame Shitty Sci-Fy Channel Movies. Oh well

It's hard to find legit horror movies. And monster movies are movies about montsers in entirety like the proper Godzillas. Shitty thrillers and horrors that use monsters to scare you are exactly that: shitty. Branch of horror my left nut.

I don't have a problem with movies/TV featuring sex scenes so long as it actually has some kind of bearing on the plot. However, I really don't understand the mentality behind trying to use sex appeal as an incentive to see a movie in this day and age. I can understand why this would have been successful in horror movies back in the 80's, but we have the Internet now, a place where porn is quite prevelant. If people are going to see a film, I'm fairly sure that 90% are actually there to see a film, as if they want to watch porn, they can do so at home.

I feel like sex has no place in a horror movie unless it's part of the story. If you just throw a bunch of random sex scenes (ahem, Jason movie series), then I can't take the movie seriously.

Horror movies these days are too boring, need a little action to keep the mind occupied between the "suspenseful" killings.

Oh and I know this is a bit off Topic, but for the love of F*cking Moses the next time someone tells me that the reason why AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS got cancelled because Hollywood doesn't have 150 Million Dollars to waste, deserves to get beat in the face with the God Damn Necronomicon repeatedly!

Smurfs was 110 Million Dollars to make.
BattleShip is said to have costed 200 Million.

Now WHY THE FUCK does Hollywood not have money to waste again!??!

I'm pretty sure Green Lantern costed a pretty penny as well.

F*CK HOLLYWOOD AND ITS ABSENT SENSE OF LITERATURE!!!!

To answer the main question, FUCK YES! I'm sick of seeing ANY movie try to appeal to stupid straight guys who yell and holler when a pair of fake tits show up on screen. Once you've shown one pair, it's only about "when's that ***** gonna show her tits again" with these idiots.

I would love to see more gay people direct movies, because maybe then we'd have some ACTUAL horror movies, not some fucking "pop out and shock you" movies.
Well if your looking for something like that then try Caligula or Better Yet, CTHULHU.

It did a pretty good job about a Gay protagonist

I only enjoy sex in horror movies if it's not there just for the fanservice.

Examples:

Hostel is the perfect example of horror sex done wrong. It only proves the notion that the main characters are just hopeless frat douches who deserved every ounce of torture they got.

Now Oldboy is a different story (it's a horror movie to me)! I won't spoil too much, but the sex in that movie is well done because the one time they "do it," it may just be the only chance they have to show their love for each other. (Then you get to the ending, and....eeewwwwww).

The sex is there because boobies and over-the-top grotesque violence/gore are what the target audience (and ANY 12 year old boy) wants to see.

Though I think horror movies can work fine, if not better without it (though I don't mind the boobies being there anyway).

I blame the internet.... Seriously, I do!

All "good" Horror is generally about people who are isolated in one way or another. And it's hard to create a sense of isolation when nearly everyone has a cellphone, iPhone, or iPad.
