Not because being yourself wins you girls--if a girl doesn't like you, it won't help at all. And that happens. But if you become someone else and win this girl over, you aren't going to be able to stand being around her because you're going to be playing some role that you think she wants to play, and you're going to resent her for it. And then it'll fall apart. Probably.
