I see your diagram but I have literally the opposite problem - Attempting to tear one off from the under position ends up in the entire roll unfurling at my feet.
Doesn't matter. There's a technique to properly tearing paper from the roll for over, and one for under. Both are incredibly obvious and easy to master (so that animated comic's last line strikes me as incredibly ironic), both require only one hand. Also, I find it funny that when tearing is pictured, it always seems to be done directly. You're tearing paper, so pull laterally. Jesus, people, this should be obvious to a 10-year-old (incidentally, it was to me at 10).
The one incorrect way to replace the roll, however...
So yeah, I don't pay any attention to over or under when replacing a roll. I do, however, replace the goddamn roll, not just slap it on top... every.single.time.
Under, we have a kitty that will sneak in and use her front paws to unroll the entire thing onto the floor if it's over. Hanging under means she can spin the roll all day and it won't end up on the floor.
If it's hanging over, I use two hands to break off the sheets. If it's under, I use one. If it's on its side, you stick a finger in the tube and unroll with the other hand. Easy!
I hang it whichever way it wishes at the time, and drive my family mad.
The only "correct" way is under if you have a cat. That's literally the only correct answer.
hah nice diagram! but I do it for pet reasons, cats/dogs will paw that shit all the way off if it is over, while under...well, they can't do shit really >
