To-may-to

I figured it was the common pronunciation. This pole is proving me incorrect.

The "a" in tomato is a long vowel ("ay" sound). That is the correct way to say it. Period. It's not a matter of opinion. People who say it to-mah-to are wrong. Sorry. People sometimes say it wrong on purpose to be different, which is cool. But, ultimately, to-may-to, is correct.

Your not American pronunciations annoy me.

Odds that someone makes a 'pot-ate-o po-tot-o' poll in the next 24 hours?

Ketchup. I don't refer to tuh-mey-tohs any other way.
What about Catsup?

I go with "ay."
Well Mr. Arthur Fonzarelli, as you may or may not know, cats obey laws of gravity just like everything else. I do admit that cats can jump very well but you can't coordinate them well so the term "cats-up" or "catsup" seems an unneeded turn of phrase.

p.s. Ketchup was the first coined name for the condiment. There is no "s" or "a" in the word. Not even the respective sounds of those letters are there. Therefore: Ketchup.

To-mah-toe. I try to use proper English wherever possible, including spelling and pronounciation, none of that boorish "Mehricun" dialect for me. :p
