I live in the south and most of my gay friends were expecting to get the "Burn them!" and the lynch mob with pitchforks and torches but the city I live in is surprisingly very accepting.

Well, it's kind of mixed here. You get a lot of the "MASCULINE!" people who don't treat them well because they're not "MASCULINE!" enough, but there's also a lot of people who are fine with them. I'd say 50/50.

I find it rather difficult to answer, where I live (Portland, Oregon) I've yet to find a consensus against gays. as for where my boyfriend lives, (Welches, Oregon) it's a whole other story.

I think it was classed as a mental condition until recently if I remember my psychology teacher correctly. It was wrong, but it was.
I'd have my expectations blow if they knew how to spell psychology, but discuss a topic on it? Right. Never gonna happen.

Defence Member here... and its kinda strange.
Sure, there is the ethos that bad things are 'for the gays' and good things are 'for the win'.
Maybe thats my local nerd sphere... but even amongst the larger groups it's not an issue.

The best way to sum it up would be:
"We don't like the gays, unless they are our friends, co-workers or in the same social circle. If they are known to us; then then are just that person, regardless of age, sex, gender, etc."

a large % of the population here is gay/bi/lesbian. Im guessing 10-15%. Everyone pretty well accepted here.

Everyone here is pretty accepting. There are always a few people who will act strangely, but its usually just a few girls excited over having some guy they think they can mess with, as open homosexuality seems to follow with the geek culture here, so its just like a geek calling attention to himself. If the guy is insecure people will bite at that though.

I live in what I would describe as a somewhat socially-conservative area of Metro-Atlanta. As such, unfortunately, homosexuality isn't wholly accepted. It's not exactly the kind of place where you're expected to hate gay people, but it is the kind of place where few would argue if you do.

Very strange question, most people will be extremly accepting or not give a crap either way. For a straight guy I've got a lot of gay friends and there are a lot of gay bars in the City and its a pretty cool atmosphere, however a few of them have mentioned in the past that they simply wouldn't feel comfortable holding hands down the street or showing signs of affection to one another because somebody will eventually say something.

On a side note a few of my more macho male friends often have a little bit of a joke about me going to a couple of gay bars but honestly its all in good humour. So yeah I'd say it's a pretty good place for acceptance, could maybe be a little bit better but its on the right path and that can only be a good thing.

sorry, as for here, it's kinda a split, there's a good amount of people who accept it and fight for their rights, and the rest kinda HATE them (and they're always very stupid- I mean religious to the point of being zealous (as in they wear shirts reading "GOD HATES FAGS")

anyways
yeah that's kinda how it is here, then again this is California **explains it all**

among people my age (early twenties) no one really cares about homosexuals. you can be gay just don't try and convince straight people they are not.
I do know a few people who are in their early twenties who think they should not marry or whatever which is a bit of a lost battle because Ontario is fine with same sex marriage.
with my parent's age group, I think they are a bit on edge about it. none of my parent's friends are gay( if they are then I have never met them)my mum is fine with them she may not think it is the right thing to do but she will not hold it against them. my dad is uptight about tattooed and pierced people. I don't want to know how he would be around a gay man or lady.

Well, my home is a sleepy little town and there's no open hostility towards homosexuals, but they are ostracized in some form or another. I personally don't mind or care, but it doesn't help that the homosexuals we do have are very overt and flamboyant about it, so it's a bit of a lose-lose right there.

It is not accepted in my area. The one kid that came out of the closet got beaten repeatedly for a while. I am in a backwater , very christian town (Honestly, there is like 6 christian/catholic/insertoneofthousandsofspinoffsofchristianitythatallbelieveessentiallythesamedamnthing schools and 1 non-christian.) so people tend to be pretty ignorant to anything like that around here.

Offtopic: My (and most of my friends too) opinion on homosexuals; I don't give a shit, do what you want.

I would undoubtedly prefer it.
Agreed. Just get to the local engineering shop and you'll be good.
