We've all been in instances where one would have to mash a particular button(s) in order to get past a certain sequence in certain games. Some examples being Metal Gear Solid's infamous torture sequence Or the Canary Mary races in Banjo Tooie. Whether you like these sequences or not is up to you.

So my question is, how good are you at button mashing? If you aren't very good, what method do you like to use?

Me? My method is a little weird and a little tough to explain. Whenever I get to a button mashing sequence I have a hard time doing with just my fingers alone, I tend to bring the button I'm using below where my lips are, I pull my bottom lip back, and I mash the button using my bottom jaw. Not sure how it works, but it does. >_>

What about you guys? Do you have any weird and unique methods to button mashing? Or are you a traditionalist and just use your fingers?

I just stiffen my right index finger and mash away. I'm rather decent at it, or so I like to think.

I almost broke my Xbox 360 controller rematching Canary Mary in Banjo Tooie during the Cloud Cuckooland level. After many attempts, I merely grabbed a sharpie, and with the cap still on, quickly ran the pen back and forth across the A (or maybe it was X, I can't remember) button. I rocketed past Mary until she was so far behind me I couldn't see her anymore.

I was so frustrated with the game I didn't stop hammering my controller until I crossed that finish line.

...and all that for a damn Cheato page.

My thumb bends in such a way that makes mashig a button easy . I think it is because o used to play nes games when i was young . Basically my thumb joig bends backwards as well as forwards . So i just mash with the bone from my thumb joint , if you understand what i mean .

I use 2 fingers and rapidly transition between the 2
BUT IF ALL ELSE FAILS I MASH THEM WITH MY PALM, it kinda works if I have to push a lot of buttons XD

I can't do them my thumb just goes stiff and won't move. I've used my chin a few times, my perfectly crafted chin.

As far as speed goes, I'm really bloody fast. But I don't mash the button all the way down, so it doesn't always register for me properly. So sometimes I have to use my whole hand to mash the button down properly, and that's not so fast.

I let my right thumb slide all over the buttons, while frantically doing the down-downleft-right movement on the joystick.

I never beat that drinking challenge at the beginning of Chrono Trigger in 30+ tries.

Though I have to admit I detest those sort of things in games. They make my hands ache like crazy (probably has to due with the tons of minor injuries to my hands and wrists while playing baseball and beach volleyball).

They seem like super-annoying of QTEs to me, which are super-annoying gameplay features already.

the only thing faster than my button mashing, is light ;)

honestly though, my friends hate playing against me in anything that is speed related as such. honestly i can't tell if the two finger or my one muscle spasm finger is faster.

i find it quite interesting/funny how many people use their jaw/chin, and how you even came across that.

If we are talking about like QTE "press it 20 times to pass" then I don't change anything, I can just press the button fairly quickly.

If I have to do a marathon, rather than a sprint, such as MGS microwave tunnel. I start off normally, then transition to a wrist twitch. I stop using my thumb tip and use the mid thumb knuckle to press the button, while my wrist just rotates about 5 degrees to slam my thumb into the button.

It's about as fast as the other way but since it means changing my grip on the controller, I start off with the normal way first.

I can't mash for shit, I use my index finger most of the time but if there is a long button mashing sequence I put my shirt over my finger and slide it back and forth rapidly. That goes off the chart in any game but since it takes longer to prepare you can't do it for every scenario.

Depends on the scenario. If I just need to press a button as fast as possible, I fan it with my index finger. If I need to press a sequence, I usually use my thumb as it is more familiar with the placement of buttons.

I remember the final battle in Kingdom Hearts 2 with Xemnas where you had to deflect multiple bullet shaped particles by pressing both triangle and X at the same time. Suffice to say, I carved that shit up all the time.

I can not mash for my life; it's these damn slow fingers. They taunt me like those button mashing mini-games in Mario Party.

While rapid finger/thumb movement is normally enough for most games, in a game (say, mario party) where button mashing becomes a race to completion, I like to support my controller using the palms of my hands and use my two index fingers. My fingers are pretty small and are light on the buttons so I don't have to worry about having one finger pressed down while the other is pressing.

I'm alright for about 2 minutes and then my hand just gives out or i get bored.

also, how the fuck are you supposed to use your face? I know controllers are supposed to be ergonomically designed but not for the face right? o.o

I can do most "button mashing" sequences in games pretty easily, some really are quite ridiculous though.

I always lose in chainsaw battles on Gears though.
