I did this topic a few months ago and man, people got downright hostile toward me, like I was being looking down on them or something. Everyone that doesn't go to school in the USA, especially the UK, is going to be really confused by what you're talking about.

Anyway, I have a MS in Sociology with a special emphasis on Criminology.
And it took way more than 6 years to get because I worked full time and had to keep leaving and coming back to school. It took me like... 10 years.

Mr Wednesday said:
I'm not sure what this "bachelors" thing is, it is equivalent to a UK postgrad degree course?
A Bachelor's is a 4 year of college or 'uni'. It specializes in a certain field but still requires some 'general' education. Most people finish it when they're about 22 or 23.

Yea, I suppose I didn't think about other parts of the world having differences in the terms and definitions of "school".

High school = "secondary school", the highest public-funded education.
Associates (AA)= 2 year post-high-school degree, typically very specialized. Often given at a trade or technical college.
Bachelor's (BA, BFA or BS)= 4 year post-high-school degree, typically specialized in one area of study (major), sometimes with other specializations if the student is so bold (minor). Typically includes at least one year of additional general education. Taught at major colleges and universities.
Masters (MS, MBA, etc.)= 2 year degree earned after your Bachelor's. Often, but not always, focused on one particular aspect of your Bachelor's degree. Typically taught at major colleges and universities.

Hope that helps those who don't use education scale in the poll!

Oh, @aceofsomthing: I'm in the same boat when it came to taking time. Technically, I have an AA in Multimedia Design before I went back for my Bachelors. Took a total of 8 years!

Great to see people's different backgrounds & majors, keep it up!

Student.

I think the British system is diffrent after collage, so I have no Idea what half of them mean assuming this is the American system of education.

Would I be correct in saying Irish secondary school is the same as High School?

Americans and their confusing school system ; )

I *was* in college for game design, but had to drop out due to my lay off. I'm hoping to get back into it sometime in the near-future, but at this point in my life I have a lot more pressing concerns then school, unfortunately.

In my third year of an Underwater Archaeology Masters. I spent all of college waiting to get to grad school so I could get out of the pointless anthropology classes I had to take.

Spent the first year and a half of grad school waiting to get out of the pointless archaeology classes I had to take.

Spent the last year and a half realizing that the dream I've been chasing since high school is pointless and I've pretty strongly boned my life. Now trying to figure out what to do with myself after I graduate with a pointless degree and a thesis that I'm going to try and crap out.

Just turned 25 last week and have spent thousands of dollars and around 20 years in school, all to realize I don't know what I'm going to do with my life.

On a happier note, Mass Effect 2 DLC today!!!

Waiting to enter college, but I'm an autodidact, that counts as something right?

Isn't the name of the topic a bit misleading?

I mean, im more "learned" and "educated" than a lot of college graduates, but I haven't even bothered with trying to graduate in any "higher education". Mostly because I can't stand the demanded PC routine that students have to engage in over here.

If I am to study, I want to do it for intellectual reasons, free of political correctness, not be graded according to how well I agree with the latest feminist fads which are spreading like a fucking cancer across this country of mine...

Ph.D. in Biochemistry. Most of the time now, I just dream about the old days when I had time to play games :)
