The average game today, it not meant for kids. M rated games are everywhere and that is where the future of gaming lies, with the adult audience. I am in the 30+ category. I've been gaming for over 20 years. I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

30+ I'm surprised there isn't more my age.really surprised?
Right there with ya. I have a group online that I play with, some I know if real life. I tend to enjoy playing with players my age. They tend to be at my maturity level. I have found myself listening to the obvious 12 year old and telling them they should not be playing a game where you can chainsaw someone in the face.

Another 30+ here. I guess I have been gaming for almost 20 years by now... (makes me feel a bit old, darn it!).

I'm 24 and I've gamed since my age was in the single figures. Like most of the gaming community I'm frustrated by people talking about how games clearly intended for adults are bad for kids. What, do they think this:

is just for decoration? Nobody talks about how we can't have 18-rated films because kids might watch them, or that TV channels shouldn't show adult-oriented material after the watershed. Well some might, but nobody actually takes them seriously.

Same here... I'm in my 30s, with a job, spouse (who plays games with me on occasion, too), and other responsibilities. It's been something I've done since I was 7-8 years old, and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

Now, clearly, I don't have time to make myself the end-all-be-all in some FPS game, and I don't expect I could if I wanted to. That's definitely ground I'll cede to the (mostly) younger players.

As long as I still enjoy playing, though, that's all that matters!

Why is there always someone who thinks there is a need to rant? Even on such a simple topic.
I don't think he's necessarily ranting, simply pointing his opinion on the average age group nintendo attempts to appeal to.

I think he's right to a degree, wii deffinately has more kid friendly and family oriented games than any other system. However it also appeals to a much wider range of gamers than any other system, though I'm not sure that's their largest market.
Your age is irrelevant when you play mario kart, i'm not being soft here but it belongs in a time capsule so future generations know how to ntertain the whole world

If I'm 22, how do I know which 22 Im supposed to pick?
Use your best judgement. I didn't mean to create options with overlapping ages, but from a mathematical point of view, it doesn't really matter. I went ahead and edited the poll choices, hoping I didn't skewer the data by too much.

I'd say if the average game age really is 30 (as some of you have pointed out) the escapist audience falls well below that age.

Well it boils down to your definition of "gamer." If you mean Wii owner, 7-12. If you mean hardcore gamer, maybe 15-20.

2 sentences counts as a rant?

As far as I'm concerned you can go to hell for the implicit assumption that anyone over 30 can be lumped into a single geezer category in your poll. Damn kids, get off my lawn! *shakes cane*

It's bad enough I have to watch the basketball players I watched when I was a kid go into the Hall of Fame (a surefire sign your youth is behind you is that your childhood idols are now old), it's even worse that I hear music I liked in school on classic rock radio stations, now I get it from my favorite video game forum? Fuck you.
