We all know Yahtzee, the man behind Zero Punctuation. His views are the hot topic of many conversations, mainly due to how harsh he is on games. We all know that it is his opinion, but it IS meant to be listened to and taken into consideration. So I ask of you, how seriously do you take it? Personally I watch the show purely for the laughs and completly block out his arguments when I buy games, but what about you?

I wouldn't say I take him "Seriously" I don't know a word for what I'd take him.
But I do watch a lot of this reviews and laugh thinking, "Hah, you've just said what I thought in a really hilarious, clever way"
Even if I do disagree with him, I still think how he gets his point across is great and take it with a pinch of salt rather than say he's wrong.

I think people see a difference between someone not enjoying what they like and outright attacking it, I think they see that as their tastes being insulted.trollpwner said:
I take his stuff as mostly just comedy, but if he has a positive opinion of a game, I will be sure to look into that game. Particularly if I'm already on the fence about said game.

"Seriously" is perhaps the wrong word. His reviews are certainly more meant for entertainment than analysis and insight, but he makes some good points. I think they just need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Yahtzee is a reviewing cynic with a load of humorous snark, but even he knows that he's not to be taken too damn seriously. Practically said so. He's been wrong, he's been right. It happens.
I don't typically factor in anything he says. I just watch his videos for the humor, not the "review".
For me, at least, the games he reviews that I haven't played yet are games I likely have no intention of playing in the first place. As such, episodes for games I haven't played are just for the laughs for me because he is indeed one hell of a good writer (my favorite line of his isn't even spoken, it's the part in the Alan Wake review when he's describing how you find little snip-its of story on the ground that tell you what is about to happen: "And then Alan was savaged by the biggest and most sexually frustrated bear ever.")
For games that I have played that he has reviewed, seeing as how he has a week minimum between the release of a new game and his review of said game, nothing he says can have an impact on whether or not I have already bought the game. That said, however, when he does review a game that I had bought a week before, I do often find myself either nodding in agreement, thinking "That's exactly what I felt about the combat system" or whatever, or thinking "You know, that's actually a very good point about the boss fights" or whatever in the case that he mentions something that I hadn't noticed.
And finally, for games that he reviews that I haven't played yet but do intend to get, I don't let his judgment sway my opinion unless he gives it just an absolute shit rating (such as Wet, which I haven't played). Yahtzee knows why people watch his show, they wanna hear him rip a game to shreds and shove a cactus up its ass. That's why even in games that he does like he always has grand hyperbolic rants about every negative thing that can be nit-picked from said game. So seeing as how he starts with the objective of tearing a game a new asshole, I don't let his reviews deter me from getting/playing a game that I was planning on getting/playing.

Meh, I never take him particularly seriously. Sometimes our opinions match, sometimes they do not. Unless he says a game is really, really good, I don't care (if he does say a game is really, really good, I pay attention. He has very high standards, and if a game satisfied him, it must be worth at least looking into). He has introduced me to some great games through his show (like SR2), but I have never avoided a game I was thinking about getting just because he did not like it.
It's all his opinion, and I take it about as seriously as I take any other reasonably educated opinion (which is, admittedly, higher on the totem pole then an ill-educated, rambling nutbag). That, I think, is the correct way to go about it. It's the people that take an internet reviewer's words as gospel that should be concerning, particularly if they themselves have never played the game in question. The same goes for films or other media. If you are a thinking human being, you possess the capacity to form your own opinion. Do so!

When he praises a game for whatever reason I will generally think alot more about buying it. Thats not because yatzhee has said so but because usually he just points out the bad points so if a game is good enough for him to point out something he really enjoyed then yeah ill look into it. I definitly think he has a better way of doing his reviews then most. Alot of game reviews i have read seem to only really go on about the good stuff while skipping over the bad.
I don't really watch Yahtzee for his opinions on a game, since it's almost ALWAYS negative. That's his style, that's how he's funny. So, when he bashes a game I like, or one I was looking forward to playing, I always take his advice with a grain of salt.
The only time I really pay attention is when he reviews something positively, because I know he wouldn't do that unless the game was SERIOUSLY good. Frankly, his review of Skyrim is the only reason I'm actually considering getting the game.

I always take his opinion seriously and into consideration. But I also know what I personally like and my tastes can obviously not be the same as someone else's. So even if he recommends a game wholeheartedly, it doesn't mean I'm going to get it and vice versa.
If he praises a game. I usually at the very least give it a look. I tend to be very picky about games anymore cuz I've played so many over 30+ years and as a grownup I don't have time to devote to something that turns out to be a dud.
He may use extreme hyperbole in his criticism but the flaws he is criticizing are for the most part there. Quite frankly even though he's comedic I still somewhat applaud him for putting games under extreme scrutiny, maybe if he tried to pinpoint exactly what was wrong and how it could be fixed rather than finding vaguely what was wrong and blowing it out of proportion I'd take him a little more seriously. I also wish he'd be a little more consistent too, and maybe approach his extra punctuation column with a little for seriousness.
