Haha, you found me out. I've heard the same factoid and wanted to see if it was true for The Escapist, so I made this thread. Looking at the numbers, I'd say 80% is a very good estimate. Of course, it makes no sense that 80% would be smarter than average, so either they're overestimating themselves or underestimating what's 'average'.

My money is on the latter, to be honest. You can't turn an online corner without running into people complaining about how most people are idiots.

Let's see if admitting this makes any difference in the way people vote.

It depends on who you are comparing me to, if you talking the average 'person' I would say I am slightly more intelligent, but compared to my average schoolmate I am significantly more intelligent. I am surrounded by idiots that cant even pass simple Science tests without cheating on them, their jokes involve 'your mom' or 'thats what she said' and I dont mean to sound like I have a superiority complex but I honestly cant stand to be around most of them for very long.

Oh, and I can be a real idiot sometimes, god forbid you need me to find something on a shelf or a counter, because you will have to come up to me and point at it right in front of my face.

Looking around me (in the real world), I'd say I'm kinda smart. But there are many times when I feel like an idiot.

Apparently, this site is home to the highest concentration of geniuses this side of Mexico.

I picked the "slightly more" option, because I'm egotistical. I'm actually at or near the top of a few of my classes right now, although considering that right now I'm in Science (I knew most of the curriculum coming in), French (see before), Geography (essentially just memorization), and PE (My mark right now is around 86%, which is my lowest right now, but it's not really intelligence and the majority of marks are given for just showing up), and that most of my classmates are having some hormone difficulties and refusing to learn, it's not that surprising.

Everyone thinks me a genius, but I think I'm kind of thick. I have little common sense, poor reasoning skills, and respond terribly to criticism. I just know things is all, and probably because everyone else's learning skills are so bad that we've been going over the same crap since Grade Five.

I see myself as about average but as it has been said High grades don't always mean high intelligence.
A friend of mine and myself both get A's in my Chemistry class. He just hears the material once and thats it, he knows it. I on the other hand don't and have to put in a lot of hard work to get the A, I really do hate him sometimes haha.

OT: maybe the reason you run into so much idiots is because intelligent people are smart enough to keep their mouths shut when they don't know something. idiots just flap their gums about anything.
and I still think unintelligent people aren't intelligent enough to know they're not intelligent

This website is full of narcissists it seems. Luckily I can admit it. I hate everyone around me for being vain money-centric self-centred idiots. At least I have some friends that aren't like it, or I'd go insane.

And I don't count it on mere grades, because that means I have to include "hard work" as a factor in measuring intelligence, which it isn't. Smart people procrastinate just as much as dumb people I'd wager.

honestly, I'm quite intelligent, especially compared to someone who is "average". It's just that I'm dissatisfied with the "normal" ways of thinking and I'm always looking for some other path of shortcut. Within this, I tend to be very lazy, and procrastinative.

If you read the OP, it's not about any cruddy IQ test. Doing well in an IQ test merely shows that you are good at taking tests, not necessarily a genius, though I admit the smarter you are the easier a test must be.

And yes, last time I took an IQ test I did great, but nowadays I scorn them.
