I don't know how hunting works in UK and USA, but in my coutry hunters are necessary to keep the balance in the forest's ecosystem
Exactly. And great idea representing Bob Marley as your avatar: he was before my time, but one of the greatest musicians in existence.
except thats Jimi Hendrix...
####, you're right- Santa Hat threw me off. Just shows you have even better taste than I thought before. My bad.

Why do you think it is morally reprehensible?
Killing animals is neither worthwhile nor necessary. Doing it for fun & enjoyment is just sick.
There are multiple reasons why I hunt. some are:
-the meat, I feel better knowing where the meat I am eating comes from.
-I love being out in the woods, I enjoy the hunt regardless of weather I get a deer or not
-it helps the enviorment, with the lack of enough natural preditors, and space the deer will be wiped out by a lack of food or disease. Its either we hunt(give them a chance) or we let White Buffelo do it(read my earlier post on this)
-it is a challenge
-when hunting you get the opurtunity to see animals in the wild besides what you are hunting, seeing something like a egale or fox in the wild is like nothing eles(the resolution is way higher in real life).
-the adrenaline, the feeling you get when you see the animal you have been after for so long is like no videogame I have ever played.
-we are simply taking the role of a preditor, people have been hunting since we evolved the brains to(or were created if your religious), why are are we different all of a sudden?

The only thing I find wrong with hunting is the odds. I mean it's you with a scoped rifle and enough bullets to carve a smiley face on it's skin vs an animal(quite possibly with a family) who's just trying to survive in the world we're all already trying to demolish. Some people might say it's the same as eating meat but I don't buy that. Those animals were grown and killed for that particular reason(food), cruel but it doesn't upset any balance. People however hunt the strongest and the fastest, which means not only do they kill a creature that was... you know... just out for a morning stroll, but also fuck up the balance because they keep killing the leaders. Natural selection is NOT the same thing, it's always the weakest that get taken down and if you find any fun in taking down weak and sick animals, you are sick! Hunting is and always was fine as a matter of survival. So if you're hunting the critter because you are starving, then ya it's okey dokey, if you're hunting it for sport (tho the definition of sport in this area is strange, because sport is about something hard to achieve, not sitting on your ass in a tent waiting to pull the trigger) I find that weird.
hunting is one of the most challenging things I'v ever atempted, I'v been hunting for 2 years and never gotten a deer, barly got one in range to shoot. Also where I live you cannot use rifles, there is a season for bows, shotgun(as close to a rifle as you can get), and muzzeloaded(uses one bullet pushed down the barrel after the powder, so you only have one shot).

I'm a hunter in my opinion hunting is honorable, and it prevents overpopulation of the deer species and many others. also deer meat is delicous.
what i don't get is why those tree ******* hippies, while knowing that it would eventually put an end to an entire species, want people to stop hunting

Like White Buffelo. White Buffelo is a company that is hired by towns that do not allow hunting at all, when their deer population gets so out of control that the deer become a problem to the public(when rich people start complaining about their brand new mercedes getting repaired because they hit a deer). What the company does is:
1)hire ex snipers
2)give them high powered rifles
3)set up food so all the deer go to one spot
4)pay them to sit there at 4am blowing the deer's heads off from 50 feet away(with high powered, night vision scopes).

This happend in a highly developed town not to far from me that put an all-out ban on hunting.
I don't think this is "hunting" really. These snipers are just doing their jobs, which is to reduce the deer population to a point where it can't hurt the ecosystem or humans.

If you're going to eat what you shoot, then fair enough. If you just kill it for shits and giggles, then I don't agree with that. Mostly. Some animals need killed en masse. Grey squirrels for one.

I couldn't kill an animal though, I don't think.

I think people should hunt, however I don't like it when people just shoot something and then leave, I think if you are going to hunt either do something useful with the dead animal. Also,I guess if an animals is threatening you or your pets, but that is more self defense than hunting.

I hunt down repeat threads.
Without mercy.

I hunt small game and upland birds. I own a deer rifle but there's no place for me to hunt (it's all either private or public lands hunted to death).

Well I think the issue of hunting is not whether it is right or wrong rather the reason as people have stated. Obviously hunting for food is alright but hunting for sport is not.

Everything in the end probably comes down to either reason or method in the end.

I have a hunting license. However, I never hunt....animals. (Joke). In all seriousness, I don't hunt even with my hunting license...

Given that Kangaroos are in such epic and uncontrollable numbers... well... shooting them fulfills 3 important rolls.

1) It's entertaining, challenging and makes for some good stories.

2) You get to eat kangaroo, which i am of the opinion we should farm instead of cattle, as it is both more delicious and better for the environment.

3) It stops kangaroos overpopulating themselves and eating the place bare.

I do despair whenever i see anti-hunting advocates on these forums, all the world of arguments they could use and they pick the ones without relevance or even a shred of power behind them.

So long as it's not for sport, I'm fine with it. Killing for sport is just wrong (I think), but if you are going to do something with the critter I don't really have a problem with hunting.

All those who hunt should be shot, skinned and hung on the wall like their quarry.
All those who make retarded generalisations whithout knowing a dick about the subject they state their pathetic opinions on, insulting someone's family members who dedicated their life to preserve wildlife by hunting, should be banned.
If he is talking about hunting for sport without using the animal at all then I agree. Hunting for food on the otherhand has a certain charm to it. And is useful.

If we didn't hunt animals (at least where I live), all of the deer would die a slow and painful death because there would be no food or room for them. If someone is hunting for game that's a different story. If I killed a animal, is that going to change your life? No.... So then don't worry about it if someone wants to hunt for sport.

Hey, if some one wants to have himself some deer stew, or jerky then by all means go ahead. If he shoots it, watches it die and leaves it, or just takes the head or antlers then thats wrong.

A friend of mine regularly goes hunting for deer, and makes the meat into Pepperoni which his family sells at a farmers market.
It's delicious.

If the animal killed is going to serve a purpose i.e. as food, clothes etc, then it is okay. If the whole animal is going to be used, that is. Killing something to only use the skin is wrong (what about the meat?).
The whole thing is riddled with grey area, however, like 'what is considered humane?' and questions of that sort...
