You know, you really don't need MY help to prove my point. I believe I already said that you're not convincing me. You don't ignore things because ignorance is what it is. Unless you're in the dark about everything, you haven't done anything of the sort, and the more you argue with me about this, the more apparent it is that you're not ignorant of the subject at hand. How else could you be throwing these tirades at me? Because you have not been ignoring it. You've been paying attention, and then you made a decision. A further point would be you wouldn't know what to try and ignore if you hadn't heard something you didn't want to hear in the first place. So, the little nuggets of joy are already there, even if you didn't want them to be. I'm sorry, but the human mind soaks up everything, even if you really didn't want it to.

Also, SCIENCE!

I don't pay attention to hype at all anymore, mostly because there is no point in it.

Also you liked twilight? I think I have to revoke your man card now.

I hate it when my friends are hyped for something when i'm not xD

They're like "OMG you have to play this game, gogogogogogogo!" and i'll just think it looks a bit average and probably can't afford anyway.

What.

You think the only recent film that's lived up to it's hype... was Transformers.

I'll... just be going now, I don't want to get any crazy on me.

First of all: I'm not throwing tirades, yes I was a little pissed off because you basically told me "I know you better than you do, I know what you can't do" and yes such things make me angry a little. Me getting angry has everything to do with you being arrogant and nothing to do with me, according to you, not being able to ignore fanboys.

As for convincing you, there is nothing you need to be convinced off. Fact is, I don't give a shit about fanboys. That's a fact, not an opinion or anything you have to be convinced off, it's simply true. For years all my 'friends' did was talk about football, football and more football, and I friggin' hate football. At one point I just learned to ignore it. It was only after that that I really joined the bigger gaming community, and thus had to deal with fanboys. I just applied what I did with my football-spamming friends to fanboys. Easy as pie.

Actually, I'm not really getting what you're trying to do here. Yes, of course 'the human mind soaks up everything, even if you really don't want it to be there.' Did I ever say that I was unaware of fanboys? No, of course not, I know they're there, what kind of point are you trying to make? I just don't give a shit about them. They can rage about a game or movie or whatever all I want, I just don't care.

So are you telling me that I can't not care about people shouting "HALO 3 IS THE BIGGEST GAME EVAH!!11!1oneone!" Is that what you're saying? If so, what makes you say that? Because in your reactions to me, all you did was just repeat your point, completely ignoring the contents of my post, completely ignoring my questions. It's like you're trolling or something.

I believe I'm saying thank you for making my point, because you are actually ignoring the content of what I was saying. Oh, I read what you were saying...and dismissed it as a red herring. I DID say you were looking for logic in the wrong place and an argument with the wrong guy. Then, when you pressed on, I used both and now you complain. And despite the rude behavior you've given to me, I have tried to be rather civil about this, but it is clear to me that you are hell-bent towards being offensive. To which, I am quite put out by it and now you will leave me alone. I have already said, and I have already demonstrated and proven. Good day to you, sir.

But you've never made a point except saying I can't do something I am doing as we speak. That doesn't even have anything to do with logic.

Also, do please quote me where I have been rude. I don't like being rude, and if you said I was rude, I'd like to correct that. I haven't noticed anything offensive in my post, if you say there is, do please quote it.

Look, let's recap. You used an example with BazBlue, that if it was shoved in your face like, say, Halo was you'd probably ignore it because it apparently drives people crazy. Now here's the difference; me knowing the silliness of many people, wouldn't care so much about people going crazy about it. I just shrug and move on, play games for my own merit and not let my fun spoiled by douchebags.

It's like when there were so many threads on here about ME2, which was massively hyped up here on The Escapist. I simply didn't read those threads as I didn't care for their fanboy squabbles. That's all there is to it really.

Yes! Hype ruins everything. Absolutely. That's the reason it's been 3 years since I stopped buying game magazines- they charge you about a fiver for it then treat the readership like they're all oil heirs and heiresses. 'Buy this game! Pre-order that game! What do you mean you haven't done it yet!? YOUR LIFE WILL NEVER BE COMPLETE!!!

And this cycle repeats every single FUCKING time that a mainstream game comes out. It was the case with Halo 2, 3 and Gears of War 2, loads more and will be for many many others. And what happens when the game comes out? You play it for a bit, finish it easily, never touch it again unless you're into being shouted at by hyperactive kids (I've never liked online multiplayer) and then sell it.
I may be being cynical, but that's been my experience with games for a while and I'm getting disillusioned. Most of the games I play are from the 90s and early 00s, and the only new game I've been getting exited about is Pokemon Black and White. Cheap and cheerful, but I know I'll be guaranteed over 200 hours playing time on it, maybe more. I just need to ignore the hype.

I had no idea what exactly Avatar was about from the previews/commercials. That made the movie about 15 times more epic.

Ohh totally yes, my favorite example is the Poster child for average FPSs, Halo 3. Seriously that game was hyped up like it was the freaking second coming, dozens of perfect scores, media coverage that would give Tiger Woods pause (They interviewed some chick in New Zealand because she was insane enough to stand infront of a Gamestop for 3 days) and all bungie gave us was a fun but average game, which made the game seem like to worst thing since the Black Plague.
