It shouldn't be censored if it is there, but using it as a marketing ploy is a little goofy. BMX XXX taught us that. There is a difference between art and having breasts for breasts sake.

I don't think it detracts from the game to have scantily clad ladies, but I've never been bothered by such things. I'm also not bothered if there is nothing there, if all the characters remained fully clothed throughout. My imagination is a fertile place, if I really feel the need to picture two naked game characters together, not a problem. Or you know, if that's the kind of 'art' you want to see, you could just be brave and search for fan art. Though, you might get more than you bargained for in the process.

If you really want a more risque scene for Dragon Age, I'm sure you can fine a mod. Try the Nexus modding sites, they're always full of perverts. I'm serious, you should see what they did to Oblivion. The most top rated mods are always stupidly hardcore sex mods.

The sex in Dragon Age was horrible, and not needed. And Mass Effect, well, it worked way better there. And Mass Effect 2 was just subtle. Shirt off, and fade to black, then back to shooting Collectors in the face. Works for me.

Do we really need this discussion? I love those two games, and I don't feel cheated because Morrigan and Miranda didn't flash their mammaries... not that I would mind if they did... ehum

My thoughts on this is you're being a little bit of a hypocrite here. You say boobies are fine but other things are not. Well, I suppose you mean stuff like on-screen child rape or something. Well, there are people who think differently. There are people who think that a flash is pushing it too far already and there are people who can't get enough of that wonderful violence. It's all a matter of opinion. While you might say that on-screen child rape is showing how our society degrades other people already might say so when a naked female is depicted.
My thoughts more speciffic are that some things, nudity, violence and gore should be allowed on tv for a speciffic audience. that somthings should only be allowed for people over a certain age group. but as you say child-rape and such, things that not are and hopefully never be socially acseptable should be kept away from normal people. let it stay at /b/

I would have just as soon they just imply sex rather then show it or rub up against each other in tan (dirty looking) underwares in DA:O. It just looks goofy and staged more than... whatever it was they were going for... sympathetic? Not to mention the uncanny valley factor.
Though that could be because the first time it happened my Burley Man Dwarf got it on with Zevren and I just wasn't mentally prepaired for it.

I think it's really funny how that one scene with the sideboob in mass effect was such a big deal and yet Jack is wearing some sort of bra made out of string.

Anyway I'm going to agree with this person right here.

To be honest finding side boob, front boob, upside-down in custard boob is so incredibly easy on the internet that I absolutely fail to see the point in wanting it in games.

From a practical point of view I do not see the west in a hurry to put schnu-schnu in games. It would not be worth the moralising media shitstorm that follows, the calls for a ban, the boycott by vendors. Some things are just not worth the trouble.

As a gamer I am not sure I see the point in putting sex in video games anyway. Cut scenes of any length are something that already irritates me (I want to play the game, not watch it play itself). So short of some sort of bizarre "stick waggle for penetration, X for splooge" mechanism I just don't see it having any place in the game world.
You took everything I was going to say and then made it sound smart.

I believe that cinematic movies, video games and webdesign are just as cualifiied to be called art as their ancient cousins.
Don't you mean
?

OT: Let's all vote in favour of sideboob to make sure it will be there for our childrens children to enjoy.

As I recall, BioWare said that they don't care what people like you or Bunky the Wonder Clown have to say.
who cares what biowavre thinks in this matter? I just thought cencoring would make a nice discussion while I could blow out some steam.

I don't think they should be censored. I think there's a place for a ratings system and it's right that we should (sometimes, in a sane fashion) talk about whether the sex and violence in games is actually an important aspect of the game or just playing to the lowest common denominator. The sex especially. All games should think twice before playing too heavily to the drooling 'I demand sideboob!' market - I haven't played Mass Effect so I can't judge whether the tits in question were artistically/narratively required, but if they are they're probably the exception to the rule.

Rape, murder, theft, arson and pretty much any other crime are not socially accepable as well, still, they are being used in stories - for hundreds, even thousands of years. It is all just a matter of opinion.

It is very hard to say "this is okay, but this has to go" because there will always be someone to disagree with you and I don't think any of us is in the right to completely ban anything as long as it does not harm people.
Granted, art forms the mind and therefore every piece of medium will somehow influence people's thoughts, thus changing society, possibly in a bad way. But if we were to go by that rule, we wouldn't be able to have any sort of storytelling at all. Even the Teletubbies can make people aggressive. ;)

come on... sideboob isn't that bad... and if Saboteur and Dante's Inferno can get away with showing full-boob, then Mass Effect should be able to show side boob.

Heavy Rain had a couple of total boob scenes in it, but I haven't heard any controversy in the news about that. I wonder why?

game companies can put sex in games if they want, the only problem is finding a publisher, they have to deal with pr problems, concerned parents, ect, as well as the sales problems with games like that. its the same deal with movies. its not really censoring, its just business.

Mass Effect 1 had plenty of sideboob, and Mass Effect 2 did show sideboob, both in Jack's entire outfit and in this cutscene:

I still fail to see why a game where you can pop someone's head with a mass accelerator sniper rifle in sweet-ass slow motion, seeing a spurt of at least two litres of blood and some brain matter would somehow be less psychologically damaging than one with some nipples pointing out during a scene or two.

I think the whole idea with sex in games being a cause for 'media drama' these days is just a natural follow-up to the media drama revolving around violence in games in the past - now that violence has become less of an issue, we move on to sex. Next, it'll likely be drug-use.

But fuck sideboob, really. It'd be nice if someone could have a game where a man's dongle flails about during gameplay and the only thing that would come from it is a few gay-jokes among fans.

Youtube seems to be having some issues at the moment, try a direct link [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_ICbDReP_k], see if that helps.
