I don't like it much, either.

But I don't care that you don't like it, and don't mind that others like it.

At least it's not Half Life 2 again. If you didn't like it, then you're going to garner a lot of hatred from people on the internet. I really liked it personally.

I really like Firefly, it's one of my favourite Sci-Fi shows. However, I can see why some people might not like it.

That said, I get a very similar reaction when I say that I dislike Friends.

What I'm doing is trying to delve into 'why' it has such a religious appeal to some. I did state this is an opinion poll and post...this is just me throwing it out there, and seeing what replies I get.
Honestly? It was well written and acted with great, realistic characterisation. The characters all had great depth to them and you could sense the potential for immense storylines. It was always going to slowly build up a following and killed-off when it was good instead of great by moronic network execs because it didn't have immediate ratings and wasn't called "world's somethingest something".

I watched it after the fact and so it was one of the most wonderful and depressing things I've ever seen. Wonderful because it just was and depressing because I couldn't see how they decided to cancel it.

I like the show, but I can't stand Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr. Who, Stargate, Babylon 5, and I could go on and on and on.

There are fans that would flay me alive for saying what I just said.

You don't like Firefly. Fine with me. I'm not gonna sit here and try to convince you otherwise. I do just hope you'll respect that I do like the show, and the movie, and the comic books.

Edit: As for why I like it (which was more or less your question) I just liked the theme of it. It was a Sci-Fi show that didn't try to fill itself with robots and aliens (closest you ever got were the Reavers and they were technically human) and kept strong with a fair blend of the western genre, which I'm also a fan of.

I thought the cast was funny, each with their own quirks and faults. I dunno what else to say. I just enjoyed watching it.

I hope you are not serious with that you are never the only one.

OT: Ok that's nice I liked it you are free to dislike it as long as you have reason more than because. Also the song she doesn't like Firefly is so appropriate for this see post number 29.

I didn't really care for it much either.

Maybe it was because everyone I knew who had seen it hyped it up to being "the most amazing show ever! OMG YOU WILL LOVE IT!". I just never ended up being blown away by it.

Still, my boyfriend really enjoys it and I find the acting pretty good, so it's all right. I just wouldn't opt to watch it by choice.

That's cool, dude. I get annoyed when any fanbase calls somebody a 'freak' for not liking what they like.

As much as I love the show it's obvious there are going to be people who don't share my opinion. It doesn't really make you wierd or anything. I enjoy it you don't and so we can leave it at that. Though I must admit you're awfully brave bringing this on the Escapist where there are doubtless hundreds of fans that would have vile reactions.

I've not watched Firefly, but I've no desire to even try after seeing Serenity. What a waste that was. And don't tell me, Firefly fans, that "oh the movie doesn't do it justice" or blah blah blah, I don't care :D

I've never seen the show, but what you're doing is something I like to call "having an opinion." The internet tends to look down upon such an act, but hey, I'm all for it.

Did you watch it while it was still on television?

The reason it was canceled was because FOX aired the episodes in the wrong order. I'm not saying this is why you didn't like it but it could be a contributing factor.

I watched Firefly long after it was gone from television. After the first episode I was hooked and went on a marathon. The characters, the dialogue, the atmosphere, the music. It was all just about perfect for me.

Eh, you're entitled to your opinion. I love the show, and I, like most, wish there was more of it. People who get mad at you for not liking it are taking it a bit too far I reckon. That's their problem, not yours.

So you felt the need to raise a thread about a show that was cancelled almost 10 years ago. Congrats. I loved the show, the movie not so much but Joss Whedon has created so many great things and some people don't like them and to those people I say. Sucks to be you.

Sort of like "OMG YOU BASTARD HOW DARE YOU DISLIKE TWILIGHT!!!" That sort of thing?
Oh, sorry, I meant Firefly. I knew that.

Yeah, I never saw the show, but I really don't like Joss Whedon as a director/writer, so I don't expect I would have liked it either.

I love it, I think it has such a cult following because it's fun and action packed while still having a mysterious plot that peaks out every few episodes, but most important is the characters. Most people loved the characters and their interactions, that's what the show was primarily built around.

I honestly don't get how Mal could not jive with you, but if that is the case I can certainly see why it didn't work for you. To each his own, you watch whatever you like, I'll continue praying that some miracle puts firefly back on the air.

Eh, I liked it. And the movie was good.

But I don't think it's the wonderous monolith of awesomness that some people describe it as.

I guess you could say that a lot of the desirable qualities of a TV show (to ME) were present in Firefly. I'll list off a bunch to give you an idea:

- Memorable characters each with their own motives and story. Sure, some were pretty cut and dry like Jayne or Zoe but that's to be expected in a sci-fi show and the two of these played their parts perfectly.
- Cool setting. Yes, there have been plenty of sci-fi shows set on a ship that becomes a character of its own however, Serenity was small enough that each room became familiar throughout the series and it was so derelict that it wasn't really a desirable place to be. It became more about the people around and the idea the ship represented: freedom... freedom to evade the 'oppressive' authorities, freedom to go wherever you want and the freedom to work anywhere in the galaxy.
- The concept of trying to get by mission by mission. I liked how they were never certain of their next meal or job, they had to take it one day at a time, savouring the small victories where they could.
- Space and westerns put together. Yeah, this probably doesn't appeal to everyone but as far back as I can remember, I've always loved Star Wars and Spaghetti Westerns. Adding elements of both of them together really made it awesome for me.
- Interesting history. I liked that there was a conflict before the show that drove many of the characters to where they are today. And in somewhat of a twist, the lead character of the series fought for the losing side. Even in the short run of the show, you came to appreciate what brought Mal to Serenity and how all the other characters solely became intertwined with him.

I'll stop this ramble before I go any further. Hopefully, this gives a bit of insight as to why ONE fan feels so strongly about the show.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got them. While I really like this show, I would never scoff or mock someone else for not liking it as it comes down to personal taste and opinion.

To quote Tallahassee from Zombieland: "Now, I ain't never hit a child before..."

I like to think I have an open mind, each person is entitled to their own opinion etc. However, that being said, you are wrong to dislike Firefly. I can accept people disliking The Clash or Pantera or even Star Wars, but you CANNOT dislike Firefly. Doing so is not a sin or anything ridiculous like that, it is just simply and factually wrong, like getting five from adding two and two. Firefly is the perfect television show, containing everything a good show requires (comedy, action, setting, charisma, chemistry, suspense, soundtrack etc etc) and so I'm not sorry to break it to you that you are wrong
