Well it takes all kinds - just a question did you watch those three episodes from the DVD how they were meant to be seen or from the jumbled FOX airing, because that's important to how many perceive the series. I wasnt very impressed with it a t first either but after some getting used to the setting Firefly became one of my favourites. Anyway you may want to give it another go just in case :)

I have friends who just don't like it, so no there's nothing wrong with you. I think it's superb, but to each their own.

Well Joss Whedon has a very polarizing effect on people, and that's because he doesn't cater to anyone when he creates his stories. I love Firefly, but couldn't stand Buffy or Angel.

I know it's been drummed enough around here, so let me kick that dead horse one more time.

It's an opinion! They can be different!
Wait? people can have different opinions? I have 30 people in my basements I owe apologies.

It has a mix of two of my favourite genres in any medium, Western and Sci-Fi, therefore I should love it, but I watched some of the movie, Serenity, and I thought it was rubbish. I didn't even finish it. I'll probably give it another shot though, maybe the series is better than the movie. Mostly I hated the main character though.

Everybody's got a bullet out there with their name on it. The trick is to die of old age before it finds you.

Maybe my favorite line of the whole series, ironically from an episode that never aired.

If you're looking for episodes to watch to "get" Firefly, watch "Our Mrs. Reynolds", "Out of Gas", "Trash" and "Heart of Gold".

Runners-up would be "Jaynestown", "Shindig" and "Ariel".

If you're watching them in order and have only seen the first three, I can understand the "meh".

They get better.

What the hell is Firefly? No seriously, what is it? I've heard loads of people praise it but never been bothered to look it up.

I watched three episodes and turned it off
Not that I particularly care if you like it or not, I'll just say that after my friend spent half of a year going "IT'S AWESOME YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT" and me going "I don't really care about space cowboys" and him finally thrusting his DVDs into my hand, I gave it a go and wasn't taken by the first few episodes. Then I got past them, and it ended up being one of my most favourite TV series.

I'd imagine some of the worship is where it died young, (that certainly gets the popularity of artists and musicians up,) but as I was trying my hardest not to like it and ended up liking it, I'd go ahead and suggest it most probably has its own merits, too.

Yeah, my boyfriend is a massive Firefly fanboy, but when the theme song comes on his shoulders hunch up and his fingers twitch as if trying to find someone's throat. ^_^

Ah, the old Marmite effect. The way I see it, an opinion is an opinion, and I'm none too fond of people who don't allow people to like/dislike whatever they please. It's not the end of the world, and it never will be. It's a show about space cowboys.

I myself consider them to be awesome space cowboys.

Exactly this.

Also, to the OP, when you say you hated "the main guy" were you referring to Mal Reynolds, or to the irritating doctor guy? 'Cause while the main plotline of the show revolves around nerdboy and his crazy sister, they're not the main characters. And i don't blame anyone for hating River or her doctor brother, 'cause they pissed me off bigtime.

Quoted for truth.

People have a large array of tastes and well... I guess you can say we are all like snowflakes. Everyone is different.

Let me know what it is!

I think it has something to do with space and bounty hunters or something.

I loved it to death when I saw it, and I watched the entire series/movie a few times, but I've deliberately avoided watching it for the past few years because I have a feeling it's something I'll start to get sick of pretty soon.

I liked Firefly but both you and me know that you're not some alien freak for having a differing opinion.

Same here. I really tried to like Dollhouse, it did have some great moments, but I wasn't terribly disappointed when it died.

I tried to go back to the beginning to watch it again and found I couldn't, whereas with Firefly I've watched the whole thing several times.
I'm the opposite. I loved Buffy and came to love Angel after I'd been through Buffy and figured everyone out except for the stupid son sub-plot. I also loved Dollhouse. That took some time for me, I couldn't stop thinking "oh, it's Eliza Dushku in cute outfits" then it seemed the story really took off and I was thinking a Neo-like "whoa".

But Firefly never got me. I recently re-watched it and Serenity. Serenity was ok but Firefly was kinda meh. I can take the rebuilding of planets and horses and farmsteads, no problem with that. But the language - why the Old West talk? Where'd that come from? Are we really supposed to believe that just because a society lives in a non-modern evironment (even though they got there by travelling through SPACE in their SPACESHIPS, er "boats") they automatically revert to M'am-ing and "well I rekon"? I was wondering when Mal would actually be hornswaggled (whatever the hell that is). Which is too bad because I thought the story and general writing and acting was good, but the language ruined it for me.
