Earlier last month, I had this problem:

I ordered and downloaded Blacklight Tango Down on Steam. Initially after installing I tried to sign in with my windows live account. The program tried to update my windows live data. I got an error message, specifically, I got OX80072751. I looked around, and found out this is the error message you get when windows live hasn't been updated. So the game couldn't update windows live...because I hadn't updated windows live.

Well, I went to one of microsoft's sites, directly downloaded the current version of live, and that solved that problem. But then, when I opened the game again, and tried to log into my windows live account, again, I got another error message. this time I got OX80151911. I went to a website, specifically I went too
http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/t/785.aspx

I took his advice, ran the suggested command line in command prompt as administrator, and it still didn't work. To my knowledge I literally cannot play this game no matter how hard I try. The game will *not* access window lives servers no matter what I do.

I can however access my windows live account outside of this game. I have also done a full system scan with Avira anti-virus premium security suite, and found no malware. Hence, the problem is apparently not with my computer. I have deleted and reinstalled the program several times. I have deleted and reinstalled games for windows live. The game still does not work.

Immediately after that, I got the red rings of death on my Xbox 360. I then bought a second Xbox 360, an elite with 250 gig harddrive for $320.00. I hooked up a transfer kit($20.00), and went out to a resturant, because it would take about an hour to finish the transfer of my old harddrive data to the new console. When I got back, I found out it had only finished 1/8 of the download because, and I am not kidding, the console wanted to know whether I wanted to overwrite Hexic 3d. I wound up wasting an hour sitting around waiting for the transfer to finish....just because the console wanted to know if I wanted to overwrite Hexic 3d.

Then, after it finally finished downloading, I tried to log on, but I was told that I couldn't use my profile, and that I had to recover my profile rather than just directly using it from the data transfer. So I recovered it. Then I tried to buy Blacklight Tango Down. I got another error message:

"Can't retrieve information from Xbox LIVE. Please try again later.

Status Code: 801553b2"

How is this much failure even possible unintentionally? Should I just switch to Sony PS3?

This sounds more like you pissed off somebody that dabbles in magic.

If it's a wizard, I approve. Those bastards get more people killed on a wild unicorn chase than Bigfoot steals beef jerky.

If you're sure you didn't piss off anything that can command a cosmic force... then, I don't know what to say, I don't recall having to retrieve my account when I transferred data... or did I? Man I have horrible memory. Regardless, the bit where you were trying to buy Blacklight Tango Down may have been that that part of Xbox Live was taken down due to maintenance.

Can you buy it now?

Oh and I wouldn't buy a PS3 so soon after spending that much on an Xbox 360. Just wait it out a bit and see if it still causes you grief.

I can't speak to your PC problems, but your 360 complaints are pretty petty.

For all M$ knows Hexic is your favorite game of all time, and God-forbid your save gets overwritten you might have an embolism. The safeguards exist for a reason.

And besides, your Xbox was doing you a favor by trying to prevent you from buying Blacklight. Don't blame it for thinking you shouldn't play mediocre games.

And as Jake said, the updates for the PS3 are just as annoying, depending on your bandwith it might take you forever to download and install a mandatory system update, when all said update does is change meager shit like "now you can press X to view photos in this area of the home page." Whoop dee frickin' doo.

Well at least they made the best operating system ever and, as far as I know, the best portable media device ever too.

Man, do I want one of those, I say as I listen to my rapidly deteriorating iPod with all its shitty quality, overpricedness and false guarentees.

As much of a pain PCs are, they're much better than consoles in almost every way. Try to fix yours again before making a decision.

Ok, you made a forum because Microsoft screwed you over? that's not original or forum worthy.
I mean my dad got screwed over when the stupid xbox live that was canceled drained money from his PayPal account. life goes on, it's not worth a good 300 bucks too change consoles over that

Yeah, I love my PS3, initially I slowly turned more and more to my PS3 because my 360 was doing more and more things to piss me off. Nowadays I barely touch my 360, only for those few good exclusives (Mass Effect). Do it, you won't regret it.

Maybe don't switch but buy one and play them both. Why do people always ask if they gotta switch? Is is financing? Is it real-estate, does their shelf not fit both? Seriously, I like my PS3 way more but you people always word it like you're changing genders and there's no going back.

I'm inclined to believe this. Do you happen to know any angry wizards who may have a grudge against you? Or possibly a dark Jedi?

Windows Live is awful. God help you if you have Vista. You should have got the Xbox replaced (buy the $90 warranty if its out of date), instead of wasting money on a new one.

Sounds like a string of bad tech luck to me, it can occur just as easily on a PS3 as it can on a PC or an Xbox.

Wow. That's...wow. I suggest that you attempt to find some magical protection from the wizard that's screwing with your life.

Well last night my Xbox and Microsoft's website pissed me the hell off. But after hours of trying not to break something I got everything working again. I'm not sure if it was worth it but I got everything working again so I'm happy. Your problems with them will get fixed eventually and you'll go back to being happy again in no time. PS3s are fun but don't go spend that kind of money just because you had a bad experience.

From what I understand, you didn't bother trying the second method....the old fashion way of doing it manually

Just avoid all games that use GFWL in the future. It's a FAR cheaper option than buying a whole new system. Besides, if publishers decided to use GFWL in their games, then they didn't want you as a customer.

I've never had a problem with Windows (since the old days of BSOD), and my launch 360 still runs fine.

Red ringed once, but I just 'reset' it and bingo, perfect for years.

I think you were cursed by a luddite wizard. Place 5 peanuts in a circle, then smash them with the bristly end of a broom, while chanting "Chtulufthagaananananan". Complete this, and all your anti-tech woes will be gone.

As an owner of all those platforms I can honestly say it is all about the same. Though I never had any of the problems you decribed.

If you do go for the PS3 though pick up the MGS Series.

I think my friend will join you on the hate train, he's been raging all morning about his 2 week old 360-S, which bricked last night. If theres one complaint I have about MS, its why cant they fix this problem? its been near 5 years.

Oh, and also, this poll needs a "Why are we making decisions for you that require you spending your money?" option.

What is it with you and wizards with unicorns?
Let's just say I know things, man... things that would blow your mind like something out of the sixties with all of them drugs.

I'm just surprised you didn't bring up Bigfoot and the jerky.

Methinks so that he has someone to blame when that too fails.

Why give them an option to escape that?
