By whose standards?

By my standards you're selfish at least. But I too eat meat.

I recognise animals have rights and conciousness and as a result of that animals have a right not to be killed without good reason (deliciousness is not a good reason). Farming of animals contributes hugely to global warming, cows especially so. People often don't consider the greater impact all that meat they eat has.

So I myself am a hypocrite by the first belief I have and selfish by the second.

This is also the basis of my dislike for vegetarians whilst holding respect for vegans.

I've never had a proper steak before. I've had chunks of it mixed into gravy, but I've never understood the love of steak. I think I'm missing out on a vital part of the eating experience.

Meat production is very ineffective and it would economically and ecologically better if we were all vegans. And while I think animals aren't humans (from a cultural point of view), I still think killing them without really needing to is bad. Lions don't have a choice, we do. If we were a race that didn't kill to eat, it would make us better.

And Veganism works. If you know what you're doing - and it ain't exactly rocket science - you can live healthily without animal products. It's just that people are misinformed, extremely prejudiced and complacant about this.

But I like meat. I know I should be a vegan, but I'm too lazy to change my ways (at least as of yet) and I like the taste of dead animals.

If you think veganism makes you sick, you're just misinformed. If you don't know about the disadvantages of the meat industry, you're not educated enough. If you think animals should be held in concentration camps and serve as food, you've probably just not thought it through.
Maybe you know all of this but you're culturally biased or whatever.

But I'm fully aware and I've accepted these facts, yet for my own laziness and desires, I choose to ignore it. THAT makes me a terrible person. Good thing I'm a materialist too, so I don't believe in Karma or Hell or such.

Just saying that vegan diets are very new. No one else in history has given any thought to eating meat. Its natural to eat meat. We've been doing it for thousands of years, why stop now. Plus since some people don't eat meat, more for us carnivores.

I hated steak when I was a kid, only because my parents would always prepare it well done for me. I would chew on the same piece for several minutes before spitting it out, and saying I wasn't hungry anymore.

When I was 11 or 12, I tried a steak that was cooked rare...
Ha, the exact same thing happened with me, in my case I was eventually able to get my parents to try it that way, they were horrified with the realization that they ruined years and years of good steaks
Same here. Then one night, I made them a very nice tenderloin cooked to medium rare (I have never hit the desired temperature so spot on in my life.) They took their cuts to the microwave.
OT: No, you are not a bad person. I myself really, really love dead lamb.
EDIT: With beef, rare is the way to go, btw. Medium rare is a bit much, and blue rare is wolf food.

I've had a steak at Eddie's Supper Club in Great Falls Montana, and nobody could call anyone a bad person for enjoying one of those. You must attend if you ever can.

Steak, and meat in general, is a natural part of the diet of the species Homo Sapien. It evolved to eat meat over millions of years of tough survival and extreme hardship, and it eventually became the most advanced species on the planet, top of it's or any food chain.

Anyone who says you're a bad person for eating meat is not only insulting you, but the entirety of human history.

P.S: I may have clicked yes by accident. If so, I'm sorry.

Steak in gravy/curry/stew is tasty but its not proper steak. Just chunks of beef.

Next time you go to a restaurant, order a steak and ask for it to be done rare. It may look underdone but it is completely perfect and safe to eat. Don't be a baby about it. A good rare steak melts in your mouth. If a steak is anything more than medium-rare it is chewy and probably dry if it wasn't well marbled (has natural fat distributed in it).

If you absolutely cant get over the fact its still red in the middle, after all attempts to drop misinformed opinions about what is and is not cooked when it comes to beef, then go for medium rare. No more.

Nicely summed up, RubyT! I just deal with the fact that I'm a hypocrite. Oh, steak is yummy, we're the greatest animal and can do whatever we want, humans aren't animals, blah blah blah.

But at the end of the day, if someone didn't murder animals they raised, for me to buy at the end of a long economic chain, I'd probably not eat meat at all- I certainly wouldn't eat AS much, to be sure.

Well, maybe fish.

I could brain a fish if I was really hungry enough, like starving.

And apologise to the fish.

Then eat him.

I love steak. Rare/English is my favourite, medium rare and medium are okay as well.
How can people order it well done? What is WRONG with you?

Nope. Kind of silly to feel guilty about it, IMO. Likewise, if you are a vegan, vegetarian, or whatever else, that's your choice. Not gonna make you feel bad either way.

What makes me mad is when people decide to make you feel bad about your choices:

"You eat dead animals? What are you, the devil? Those poor animals!"

"You, a vegan? What are you? Go to Haight-Ashbury ya damned hippie!"

Yeah, people are stupid.

Considering most of those animals are bred and raised specifically to be slaughtered anyway, I'm going to say no.

And it has nothing to do with the fact that I have a few steaks marinating right now as I'm typing.

I love steak, while in my underwear, under a full moon and sitting on top of a pentagram. I have yet to be struck by lightning, so I'd say we're both doing a bang up job....

Now if you were eating your steak with A1 sauce, THEN you are devil spawn.

So you like to eat and something, and you're wondering if that makes you bad?

Dafuq did I just read?

Eating meat does not make you evil. We are omnivores, a species that eats meat and non-meat. People who would judge you for one or the other are being idiots. Passing a steak in the supermarket and saying "Oh, I can't eat that, it's evil" isn't going to bring the cow back to life. So eat up and if anyone decries it tell them to shut up.
