Never understood the complex behind this really.

Unless one or the other in the household is visually impaired there is nothing keeping you from using your eyes to see which position the seat is in. I am not all troubled by looking first. This is not because I am a male, but because I do not run into the bathroom backwards and launch myself at the seat.

Try looking first and don't get so pissy over something so meaninglessly stupid. There are far more important things in life to get worked up over believe me.

I put the seat and the lid down. Ha, now both genders have to do work. Equality ensues. You're welcome, world!
Look man, if you're just gonna come here and spout out smartness, I really don't think you belong in the Internet.

And yeah, you put the seat and the lid down and everyone wins(loses?). How do people not know this?

No because statistically you're more likely to run into a woman who wants the toilet/man wants to shit than a man who wants to pee.

If i've done a piss it stays up, if i take a dump it stays down. Surely arguing takes more effort than moving the seat and in a case like this why does someone have to do another persons job?

In my house we put the seat and lid down, mostly because our cats and dog will be in there in a heartbeat, but also because both of us have to lift something that way. Also, what person doesn't look at the toilet before trying to sit on it?

Depends how endowed you are? :p
And how the blood flow is going at the time.
That's the double edged sword of morning wood, isn't it? You daren't stand up and try to aim, but sitting down you have to wrestle your dick into the bowl.
[sub]Might be exaggerating a little bit, but whatever.[/sub]
oh this is just about the worst
I swear every time I wake up I have to do a one-handed handstand in front of the toilet

OT: well I have my own bathroom in my bedroom, so I don't have to bother about that
but I still always put down the seat and the lid, for whatever reason I can't flush the toilet when both are up

I honestly have yet to meet anyone who cares about the seat being up or down... Something I'm glad of, because I think I'd have to throw said individual out the fucking window.

Oh, and I say this as a guy that sits down to pee. I don't like peeing while standing, so I don't do it. If I can manage to pull down the seat before I go, so can you.
Okay... I know 'judge not' and 'every individual' etc. etc. etc. ... But still...

Really? You don't like pissing whilst standing up?

Really?!?!

...

I mean, I know that this decision of yours in no way effects me or my life, but part of me kinda wants to ban the practice of men sitting down to piss... It's just not natural.

I guess this is how Dogmatic Religious types feel about Gay Marriage... I'm very, very ashamed to kinda see something from their point of view.

(For those who can't tell because of the text-based format (or because they're retarded) - This post, very tongue-in-cheek).

As soon as women start pissing on the rim in a drunken haze, I will agree that there is an equality issue.

As it is though, I think I can live with putting the seat up. That's less of an offence then wiping someones piss off the seat/rim.

Its fucking disgusting guys...

I always thought, beyond it being sexism/chivalry, that if a guy really needs to do a piss and the seat's down, with a bit of aim it is still easily accomplished. If a girl needs to do a piss and the seat's up, they're a little more disadvantaged. Moreover, if it is the excretion of solid wastes that is desired, having the seat down as the default position is more convenient overall.

I don't even know how it's possible to have the seat up but the lid down. I'd prefer not to have it open since if you flush open it all the particles get spewed in the air and can land on things like your toothbrush. Not to mention it looks nicer if it's closed.

Though I'd rather have a guy leave it up than piss on the seat. I can look before I sit but I will rage if I have to wipe off someone elses urine before I sit. That's just disgusting.

Actually this issue is rather easy.

The seat should be down 75% of the time generally and as such also should be put down 75% of the time.

Considering human memory I've found that if I attempt to put down the seat 100% of the time I actually only put it down 75% of the time due to the afore mentioned human memory.

As such, perfect balance is achieved with minimal effort!

In short:
- Guys, stop whining and just put the seat down.
- Girls, stop whining if he forgets and just do it yourself.

It's easy!

As for putting up the seat. I refer you to the age old principle of Ockham's Razor, also known as KISS or Keep It Simple Stupid.

Adding that factor into the calculation would just make it complicated and achieve nothing at all seeing as our amazing human memory will automatically compensate by forgetting to put the seat down more often should raising/lowering the seat prove too much effort.

Yeah. This isn't a real issue. It's a sitcom issue. It's a shitty (zing!), King of Queens-style sitcom issue.

I'm male, but I have OCD, so I always put the toilet seat down for use. Ironically, it?s mostly my mother that keeps the seat up, even when there?s no-one coming in afterwards. I don?t even know how you can ?forget? to put it down, though, unless you have really bad short-term memory loss.

But seriously, is it really that hard to just put the seat down? I don?t know why it should be an issue at all, let alone one that men are defending the right to keep the seat up because, apparently, they don?t sit down to shit too?

So to sum up this thread: It doesn't matter if men have to take two seconds to lift the lid up because who cares about them, and women are so self absorbed that they won't even look at the toilet before sitting down on it and will then fall in.

Well I'm amused.

... shouldn't women put the toilet seat up for us after they finish?

I mean, in the name of equality and all.
The system I use is based upon how many people of each gender are within the building. If there are more guy than girls, then the seat stays up, but if the women outnumber the men, then it stays down. This way there's no equality issue, merely simple statistics.

I always put the seat and the lid down, so there's no problem there, but I don't see how people can make it a big issue anyway. Do you usually just go into your bathroom, turn around and plonk yourself on the toilet without looking?
