First of all separation of church and state. So nope.

Second if he was just the normal guy who was a religious leader I still would not, since America only loves to trash on it's presidents and even one who would make miracles would still be demonized in the end.

No offense to the guy, but I don't see him handling the economy that well, to be honest.
He could, but it would be paid for with bread and fishes...

And a whole lotta wine.

This is a poll I've been curious about; knowing that a good amount of the American population that'll vote for someone because of their religion or how often they say god bless America.

So, Jesus Christ returns and runs for president.
If you need to know anymore, his stances are based on biblical teachings. Love thy neighbor (ie Mexico), gays are bad, etc.
screw religion, personally i would vote for jesus because he is jesus

Depends on his policy. I get the feeling that a lot of what is written is the bible as stuff Jesus said was written by the people that wrote the bible. I don't imagine everything is his own words. If it is, then he is a great philosopher, and I certainly agree with a lot of what he thinks, but o, I wouldn't vote for him just because he claims to be, and is believed to be by many, the son of god.

Gays aren't bad and he never said they were. If anything it is true it isn't the normal way that god intended people to live but some people are born being naturally attracted to the opposite sex. Would you really criticise someone for something that they can't change or avoid. In my opinion it is cruel to discriminate someone for something they can't change. It's just like when women were discriminated and also people of different cultures (e.g. Aboriginals, African Americans, Asians etc.). I feel very strongly about this topic, not because I am gay but, because these people have been copping loads of crap from so many people for years and I believe they don't deserve it. But from my religious view I, honestly, don't believe it is the way god wanted humans to live. He made marriage for a man and a woman. But times have changed and people have changed.
This is a topic and discussion which is very opinionated so I am going to leave this to rest... ELIMINATE DISCRIMINATE! xD lol

well i wouldnt for a few reason,
for starters im British so cant vote for a president, but for arguments sake say i can.
i dont think religion should play any part in politics.
i dont think jesus will exactly be in touch with the modern world (taken into consideration the time he supposedly existed) plus if he adhered to the bible to run his policies it would make them very redundant and wrong in certain areas

I'm actually surprised that the majority says "no" in the poll. I mean, I know there's a significant amount of atheists on the Escapist, but...

[HEADING=2]HE CAN PERFORM MIRACLES[/HEADING]

That means...
National debt? Payed off!
Rubbish economy? Cleaned right up!
Crime? Eliminated!

As well as global problems, such as Libya, Egypt, terrorism, and global warming (if you believe in that).

And anything else you can think of. I don't see how the man could possibly be less than good as a leader. And don't try and tell me how the bolded above wouldn't work out if he did it, because it's a miracle. It'll make it work.

I'm pretty sure that "gays are bad" wouldn't be in his speeches. Outside of that, I really don't think I can fill in fictional characters in a voting ballot.

Mod Edit - Stating Jesus is a fictional character does nothing for the OP but does become trolling.
It has actually been fairly well proven that Jesus existed, whether or not he was the "messiah" is another story altogether, oh and to clarify, it's been proven that at the very least a guy named Jesus was around at the time in the general region
You could both be right, depending on how you look at it. The Nixon of Futurama, for example, is based on an actual person, but could be considered a fictional character.

Dude, Son of God! He could easily figure out how to help everybody without ruining the world. He's got my vote for sure if only for the fact He'd be the first honest politician EVAR!

Oh heck yeah! Although, since I know the constitution, he can't get in even if he did win. And if he was someone else claiming to be Jesus but I believed him, I doubt anyone else would.

I would prefer to have a president who didn't recite lines from the Bible in his speeches.

Dont you just love a good conversation?

Labcoat Samurai said:
Did he? Could you quote chapter and verse on that one?
Anyways lets see the first thing you mention is the verse, which to be honest had me groan when I saw it with a 'ugh gotta go look it up' but I suppose its for the better that I dont just spout random information with no facts to back them up, I cant see how any dignified news source *cough*Fox*cough* could do such a thing. Well, it actually appears multiple times, but the one I found is Mark 12:17.

Well, it may be true that he wants you to do it because you think it's right or because you want to, but I don't see how you're *not* going to hell if you don't do it. He famously said that it's easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. If that isn't some good old fashion democrat-style class warfare, I don't know what is.
Ok, now on your quote, you dont seem to understand what that meant, it meant that a rich person is less likely to go to heaven because he doesnt want to give up the wealth he has amassed here on Earth. Rich people Can go to heaven, but go up to any rich, (and by rich lets say millionaires) person and ask them to give up all of the money they've earned to random charities when they are on death row and see what happens.

How do you figure?
Ok now the answer to this one is simple, you see in a socialist/communist society, history must be erased from memory. Why? Because history was written by individuals, Alexander the Great, Attila the Hun, George Washington, Nikola Tesla, etc. and individual ideas of these people, why they endanger the safety of a nation! We could have revolution on our hands if people believe what these people believed! So, actually I suppose you got me, I was wrong, history will exist, just a highly censored one where all of the heros are played out by socialist supporting no names.

I wouldn't exactly say it's doing fantastically now, but yeah, Communism was a massive failure there.

And now their economy is great. So I suppose China's current system is presumably satisfactory to you (it isn't to me).
And yeah russia has some problems that we wont go into.

Oh no you are exactly right, China's economy isnt preferable, the way they get along so well is simple, American corperations have a choice, they can work in america, and be forced to pay minimum wage and extra taxes, or they can move operations to China, meet a new market while keeping the old one and working with basically slave labor. From an economists point of view, the stupid thing to do is to stay in America. Deng killed possibly, (and I say possibly because the PLA and PRC refuse to give exact numbers on the deaths and imprisonments) thousands of people during the Tiananmen Square Massacre- innocent, peaceful protesters, and the United States, the country I love and adore- did nothing. We who are supposed to be the advocates of peace and freedom and the rights of the people sat by and did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. This is dispicable, do we pick and choose what nations we decide to help? And the same BS is going on with Libya right now.

EDIT:Oh and their economy isnt necesarily doing 'great', its tied to every other economy on Earth right now, just like everybody else, and contrary to popular belief, despite our huge federal debt and other economic problems, the United States remains the world super power, both in terms of military strength, and surprisingly, economic power as well.

Also, you say that no "pure socialist" country has ever worked, but there are a lot of countries out there that are socialist enough to give your average Republican a heart attack, and they are working just fine, so I'm not sure how meaningful your standards are.

For the record, though, I agree with you to an extent. I think that people who are not free to pursue their own happiness will have no motivation to produce.
Give me an example of one pure socialist state that I cant prove is fed by China or another capitalist nation. You wont be able to give me one.

Or maybe because you were unaware that you were overpaying for health care in part because of freeloaders who don't buy insurance but still receive emergency medical care. Seriously, the health care changes are *good* for people like you and me who work and pay for our health insurance. You and I stand to benefit.
And you may have me on the health care, touche good sir... touche. That being said, the last thing we need is for health care to be completely controled by the federal government, that's only asking for trouble.

Such things do not exist as an honest politician. What would he say when a non believer asks him to prove something and he cant? Right there you have the "he hates _________" here. What would happen when he ostracizes the Gays and those that believe in things like abortion? Automatically, he is not pure, is not the great linker.

besides, Jesus creates miracles and is limited in his powers. he could not just simply DO everything, and make everything perfect without hurting another. Lets say he gives everyone a home who is homeless, we'd have no space left on earth and would have to build up. he saves all the endangered species, we are in competition with them to find space to live. He cures the sick and dying, thats great, but now we get a larger population boom.

Jesus is an alchemist. He never pulled something out of thin air. Water went into whine, but Jesus never just pulled a flagon out of the air. He could not make everything good without hurting something. Its just simply not within the realms of reality.

Yeah, the death due to disease rate would hit an all time low of 0.
He'd probably get assassinated though, but it'd be for your sins.

Have you ever read the new testament? He disagrees with plenty of stuff from the old testament which is where the "Gays are bad" and "Don't jerk it" comes from.
Don't wanna start a discussion but...

"It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law [the old testament] to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)
Also, no I'd not vote. Firstly because I'm no US citizen, secondly because I prefer the segregation of state and church and thirdly because I disagree with Christian teachings and would much rather see the Flying Spaghetti Monster get elected.
