Here is what I considered before voting for Star Trek. I ruled out series which I know little to nothing about (Babylon 5). In Battlestar Galactica there is the whole issue of the Cylons(sp?) trying to kill humans. That was out. In Star Wars the political state is constantly unstable. Quick, think of a Star Wars game or movie with a stable and just government... there isn't one? In Firefly, love it as I may, the Alliance is corrupt, non-Alliance folk are incredibly poor and live in a, mostly, archaic way and on top of that you have to deal with Reavers, so that was out, too. Mass Effect was my second choice, but the whole Reapers thing made me have some second thoughts on that one... Maybe pre-Mass Effect 1 galaxy would be fun.

Star Trek won out in the end because, while it has galactic threats, they always seem to mostly deal directly with Starfleet. The whole universe seems pretty clean and crisp. Plus, Picard is sweet.

What male wouldn't want Mass Effect: There is an ENTIRE SPECIES made up of ONLY humanoid females, what else is needed?

I chose Mass Effect because it is pretty peaceful, until those dardy ol' Reapers turn up and start reaping everything.

Hmm. Of that list, I'm only familiar with Star Wars, Star Trek, and Mass Effect.

On one hand, Star Trek has the potential to be the safest and most stable, but I can't make heads or tails out of any of the technology or science that goes on. Besides that, it might be a little boring; it may just be the tastes of the crew I've seen, but I haven't seen a twinge of culture past the mid-twentieth century. Have all traces of rock music and popular culture been lost to history, leaving only a slew of detective novels, jazz, and classical music? No thanks, but I'll have to pass.

Mass Effect looks okay, but ultimately, I think I'll have to go with Star Wars. I have better meta-knowledge of many planets, species, and assorted customs and there seem to be more opportunities available to the everyman. Heck, I've more or less developed contingency plans for if I abruptly appeared at the start of any of the films as it is.

Star Wars it is, then.

I'm going with Star Trek. Humans are strong, technologically advanced, successful and prosperous. Basically, it's the ideal future. Sure, it's got its menacing antagonists, but nothing we couldn't handle.

Mass Effect is a close second because I love that universe and the races in it. However, I think the Mass Effect Universe owes a lot to Star Trek in terms of how the aliens are designed and portrayed: mostly humanoid with little to no language barrier. I got a somewhat Trekkie vibe when I first played.

Yeah, the Borg are a tricky problem, but I still think the combined might of the Federation and other groups could take 'em on. You just know some deus ex machina thing would happen and the galaxy would be saved... for now...

Generally speaking, though, how much does this affect the everyday individual? The occassional government policy might be racist to various species (example: Wookie slaves), but humans tend to be in a pretty good position overall. Just keep your head down when the blasters are firing, maintain no interest in politics, and carry on like the government was actually stable... and if things are getting a bit too hot, just travel somewhere else.

Personally speaking, I think Naboo seems like a pretty decent place. Excluding the whole Trade Federation invasion, there doesn't look to be anything to wrong about the place. Architecture is nice, people are nice, and if the government likes toasting Gungans on the spot, all the better.

I think Ratchet and Clank would count, so I'd want to live there.

So I should accept racism/slavery/(in your case with the Gungans) genocide in Star Wars because, as a human, I am unaffected? Sorry, I think I'll stick with the stability and equality of Trek.

And then their is the Q and the Dominion almost wiping us out.

It was a flimsy justification, true, but it WAS a justification! :D

The universe from Larry Niven Ringworld, why drugs that makes you live for thousand of years (normal dead boredom), spaceships that normal people can afford and if I know the location of the Ringworld it would be perfekt.
