To an extent: My parents like a range of music as do I. I imagine there are few people that have Led Zeplin next to Lady Gaga on their shelves. (There's about 500 CDs - all theirs - on the shelves behind me)

However they favour classic Rock, whereas I'm more alternative rock and pop. I don't mind the classic rock but I don't like it, and considering that's mostly what I was exposed to when I was young, I'd expect that if my tastes were inherited then I'd actually listen to some.

No, i can't really say that they have.

Both my parents are Incredibly boring when it comes to... Well everything actually. No taste or interest in music, whatsoever...

I have my love for Progressive and Thrash Metal from a few of my friends.

My dad a huge Dave Matthews Band fan, and I guess he got me into their music. Hell, that was my first real concert going to see the band live with my dad. (Don't laugh, it's a fond memory of mine)

I inherited my father's love of Rush. I enjoy most of what he listens to, but Rush is the big band that we share.

I probably wouldn't have got in listening to any classical music. At least not as much.

Louis Armstrong is one I've definitely inherited.

Otherwise, my parents have never been much into music, and there wasn't any Hip Hop music back then; so, no. not really.

I grew up listening to Celtic and pop. I now listen to metal, but with a few select artists in other genres (like Johnny Cash, Eminem and Akira Yamaoka).
I don't see alot of similarities. ;)

My dad was a greaser, so he's responsible in part for my love of rockabilly.
Man I wish my dad was. Still I can't complain; if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have fallen in love with The Who, The Doors, The Beatles and The Stones.
Also good stuff, passed down to me from my mom. Who would've known parents liked such cool stuff?

I wouldn't be listening to Van Halen if my parents didn't introduce me to rock music all those years ago.

But some things, like my choices in jazz and classical are all me.

Well my dad is a jazz musician and my mom is an ex-hippie so my childhood was filled with jazz and protest-songs...

My dad is all about rock and I am all about Trance Metal and DnB.

So not really though Metal and Rock are a little similar.

I mean, sort of. I absolutely inherited their love of 80's alternative rock, first-wave punk, and new wave, but I also discovered hardcore punk and extreme metal on my own., so I got a bit of my taste from them.

I didn't inherit more than an indifference to my parent's music, but I'm actually starting to turn my mom to my tastes, techno and the like. However, we do have some common likes in music like Gogol Bordello and Nightwish, but that was something we all started listening to together.

So, genre-wise not so much. I've been pretty independent even as a younger child, and I guess that goes with music too.

Yeah well the less said about my mum's musical tastes the better. ;-)

I've always said that if I was born back then I'd be a greaser. As it is I was born the year punk "broke out" in the UK so I think I've got a spiritual affinity for it.

Not in the slightest. My parents are not big on music and the stuff they like is quite different from my tastes.

My Dad is a professional jazz trumpet player and I'm an amatuer trumpet player.

Yeah, the love of jazz runs in my veins... Sadly, not the talent. Still, I'm a decent player but I'm nothing compared to him.

Inherited my love of Pink Floyd and other classic rock bands from my dad, but on the whole I have not inherited much of my parents musical taste.

well my Dad loves the Beatles and Conway Twitty, as do i. and my mother loves just about every band to come out of the 60's, as do i. but they unfortunately do not like Irish folk music or hip-hop.

My parents were big into Classical, my mother especially. While I've inherited that, I haven't taken much else from their tastes. Most of mine were influenced by my brother.
