So, I just purchased Splinter Cell Conviction. Wooo! Except I now discovered that it wants an internet connection, and the data usage, although quite small, amounts to a fair amount.

Now, in SA, the internet is still fairly expensive, and I don't have R900 for uncapped internet. So all I'd like to ask is why is there this obsession with constant internet connection?

You've just discovered DRM! Congrats!

You got DRM'd. Anyway, my PC internet is fine. My Xbox...not so much. It has trouble connecting. But once connected, it holds the connection well enough.

Good to see there are some people who completely missed the whole Ubisoft debacle.

It's a form of DRM, proven to be both irksome and useless. Especially given questionable connection of the Ubisoft servers. I don't know if they changed it, but if the connection drops, so does the game.

Welcome to the wonderful world of publishers attempting to treat single player games like MMOs, in the misguided belief that this will do anything other than annoy would-be customers.

At least Splinter Cell actually has multiplayer modes, it's even stupider when it was a game like Assassin's Creed 2.

The DRM isn't that bad. Normally it's just registering the game, unless I don't really understand DRM.

Still, it's an assumption that everyone in the world has great internet. My internet on the other hand is about as stable as a bi-polar at the suicide hotline...

But if I wanted to play an MMO I'd buy WoW. Why must they force me to interact with other people. I work with people, they annoy me. Can't I have one thing I can do alone?

No, no no no no a thousand times no. I don't register games, I don't play online anymore and, it seems like being connected to the internet does nothing but force lengthy downloads which cause no visible improvement to overall gameplay.

I think it's really stupid. But that is solely my opinion. I preferred the Blizzard way, they asked you if you wanted to register their game online. If not, skip and play.
It's really, really stupid. To me, it feels like they're giving people an excuse to be pissed at them and pirate their games.

Oh no, there's no interaction, you're still playing all by your lonesome! Just, you know, requiring a constant internet connection or the game stops working, like an MMO.

Personally if I was in your shoes I'd download the crack to remove all that crap, assuming of course that it's been released already. You paid for the game, so why put up with that crap?

Oh my god. Can it be true? Can I have found... Another South African?

OT: Yeah I'm staying away from the PC versions of any Ubi games until they drop this always on DRM bullshit.

I can't imagine anyone agreeing to this

OT:No i don't think so, there is always a chance your internet will go down and in a single player game that requires it, is quite lame.

Scene 1 - Sam Fisher with a gun ... restoring internet connection ... Sam looks over ... restoring internet connection ... his shoulder. He sees ... restoring internet connection. *Daniel puts head through monitor. It hurts*

Seriously, you only found out about this when you went and bought the game?

Also, no of course they fucking shouldn't - if I buy it then I should be able to play it as and when.
