Edit: If you took the time to open this thread please take the time to vote so I can get a strong sampling

I am doing a 8 minute presentation for an exam and I want to throw in some research.

It will look at both sides of piracy and some stuff on DRM, I am looking for input to give my presentation more impact.

re re edit ( outside of the anonymity of the poll I will rejigger the question in hopes of more honest answers )

How often do your "friends" pirate stuff, Never, sometimes, allot or everything.

What kind of stuff do "they" download?
Do "they" think its wrong?
What would have to happen to make "them" stop?
Or make "them" pirate more?

I pirate a lot. Mainly because a CD costs 15 euro, a DVD 18 and a beer 2.30, and I only make about 6 euro an hour.

I attend a lot of concerts, I buy stuff I really like and some stuff you just NEED to have in original.

I don't believe in buying an album for 2 songs. I hate that.

That's why I pirate.

What kind of stuff do you download? Games that I already own.
Do you think its wrong? No
What would have to happen to make you stop? Games being made without DRM would help but not stop completely.
Or make you pirate more? Any more offensive malware DRM.

I decided to stop about a month ago. That includes music, games, operating systems, etc.

Only stuff that I can no longer get in my country and, in one case, a CD before amazon and itunes had preview samples - though I ended up deleteing it because the CD was rubbish.

I nearly pirated Spore to show the bastards what I thought of their DRM, but didn't in the end.

If a game is impossible to find online (due to age, scarcity, etc.) then I will probably pirate it. I never pirate new games, but I don't buy them either - I just wait until they're cheaper.

Speaking in simple terms, it's illegal, but it isn't wrong - usually. In my case, they wouldn't be getting any revenue anyway. Even if I DID buy the game, all the money would be going to some second-hand seller somewhere, not the developer.

I wouldn't have to go down this route if there were more companies like Good Old Games dedicated to bringing heritage title into the 21st century.

I should point out that I pirate 99% of my music and a few films as well.

I pirate very little and pirate less and less as time goes by. But I sometimes pirate movies.

I like having the physical media (DvD, game disc, music C.D, or whatever) in my possession, I like to have that physical item that I own and will have forever. For example I still have an original GameBoy and an original PlayStation, and you cant download yourself the real gaming experience of playing this consoles the way they are meant to be played.

If I missed seeing a movie in the cinema I will sometimes pirate it in order to see if I like it before buying the DvD. If it is good I will buy the Dvd, if its bad I do not because I;m not going to fund bad movie making.

I believe piracy is only bad when overused or used in place of actually buying stuff rather than in addition to buying stuff.

Seeing people prosecuted and severely punished for piracy would make me stop entirely.

What kind of stuff do you download? - Movies.
Do you think its wrong? - Not entirely wrong when used appropriately.
What would have to happen to make you stop? - Seeing people prosecuted for it.
Or make you pirate more? - If DvDs, C.Ds, etc became more expensive.

I pirate... where necessary. Which would fall into the a lot column.

I download music and sometimes cracks.
I don't feel it is wrong as the game and music companies still have a very high profit to expenditure ratio.
To make me stop would require that there were many CDs compiled entirely of the music I really like and for game companies to kill DRM and charge $10 a game, still leaving them rich as hell.
I would do it more if any of the trends modern game companies are following continue. I'm not gonna stop soon, am I?

Speaking hypothetically:

Sometimes.

Music and films.
Technically yes, morally no.
A lack of internet connection.
A further increase in prices.

What kind of stuff do you download?: Very obscure music, German Industrial that would cost an arm and a leg to get over here. Although I used to pirate alot when I was younger and had less money.
Do you think its wrong?: Yeah, Because I can afford stuff now, If I can afford it why would I pirate it.
What would have to happen to make you stop?: Eisbrecher CD's being released in HMV.
Or make you pirate more?: Price's going up higher than they already are.

What kind of stuff do you download? Music
Do you think its wrong? I don't do it alot, only if I really like a song.
What would have to happen to make you stop? Laws punishing downloaders, not just uploaders
Or make you pirate more? Less law or increase in prices
