Batman does do some pretty super things.

And a lot of people would call his problem solving abilities his superpower. Corny, I know, but could anyone else come up with half the stuff he comes up with? He's obviously on a different level than most.

Hes not a Superhero as he dosen't have any kind of superpowers. Ironman on the other hand is as he has his suit which allows him to take on other powered individuals on an even pegging. Also he is almost certainly has super intelligence, minaturizing a new form of energy generation and comming up with a fully articulated powered suit in a couple of months kinda points to that.

Batman battles 'supercriminals', named as such because of their maniacal deeds, not because of any powers they may possess. He performs better than a lot of superheroes in the DC universe because he's one of the smartest men on the planet. He manages to defeat Superman in 'Batman: Hush' because he's not afraid of him and because he's a lot smarter than him
OT: No, he's not. I'm a massive Batman fan (I own a lot of Batman graphic novels and all of the films) and it's a common misconception that he's a superhero. He has no powers. He is at the peak of mental and physical ability, he is the world's greatest detective and he's a masked vigilante who acts above the law. He is not a superhero and, in truth, he's not a very nice guy. This is what makes him such an interesting character. For an example of this, I recommend Frank Miller's 'The Dark Knight Returns'. Even though it's not canon, it is one of the best Batman comic books out there

Of course he is. He may not have powers, but he does incredible things that normal people are not normally capable of. He fights and beats super powered beings with skill and intelligence. I've even heard that he is stronger than some heroes that have superhuman strength. And check his file in Batman: Arkham Asylum.

So on and so forth. Yeah, he may not have powers, but Batman is superhuman all the same.
Mind you that I don't read the comics, but Batman is one of my favorite superheroes.

I agree with this.

So he doesn't have super powers in the same style as Superman or the X-Men, but he was "super" in that he honed himself to a physical and mental peak in order to take down super powered enemies against the odds. I think that's pretty "super".

One thing you did forget though Saltyk, which I think is probably one of the most stand-out things that elevated Batman from "hero" to "superhero" is his financial resources.

I mean, the most heroic guy in the world can train all day every day, and design tools and vehicles designed to thwart criminals, but without Batman's super budget, it would never come to fruition.

Very true. I do often joke that Batman's super power is money, but I thought that mentioning it was kinda redundant. If you don't know that Batman is Bruce Wayne and super-rich even by the standards of the super-rich, you live in Ancient Rome or something along those lines.

I will admit that his money and resources allow him to create amazing gadgets and technology, but felt mentioning it was unnecessary. Like mentioning that Superman is an alien and gets his powers from the light of a yellow sun.

I think every Super Hero, is just an ordinary hero, with a little extra help in form of super powers, where Batman has his super athletic-skills and a brilliant mind. So yes i think you can call him a Super Hero

Having been neck-deep in the comic scene, I've seen five million variations on this debate.

Some people are quick to call Batman a non-super hero, while others would insist that James Bond is a super-hero, even though he doesn't wear a costume or have super-powers. Greek gods, Dracula, Looney Tune characters, etc. have all been shoved in the super-hero box for one reason or another.

Costumes, secret identities, super-powers, and various other tropes are usually present. But I think the best rule of thumb is to define them by the company that they keep. If a non-powered hero (costumed or otherwise) lives in a world where super-powered heroes and baddies are the norm... then he's a super-hero.

Although, oddly enough, the word "hero" was originally meant to describe characters who were granted powers by the gods, like Hercules. So from the original definition, super-hero would be redundant.

I always read a superhero as having something super about them. Iron Man is given superhhuman like powers from his suit.

In that sense Batman is just an amazing hero but I group him with everyone else. He's badass as hell.

By most definitions, characters do not strictly require actual superhuman powers to be deemed superheroes, although terms such as costumed crime fighters are sometimes used to refer to those such as Batman and Green Arrow without such powers who share other common superhero traits. Such characters were generally referred to as "mystery men" in the so-called Golden Age of Comic Books to distinguish them from characters with super-powers.

OT: I've never seen batman as a super hero. He's incredibly strong and one of the smartest ment in the world, but I don't consider Green arrow or Iron Man to be super heroes either. They're smart, and they're rich, and they use money to fight people

I'd call him an extreme vigilante. He's great, interesting, and gets the job done, but by definition super hero's require super powers, and unless money is a power then not only is batman a super hero but so is bill gates and the rest of billionaires are super heroes 2.

I count him as a Superhero, he does heroic things in a Super-fashion regardless of or being human.

I think that civilians in the DC Universe believe him to have super powers.

When you think of it Superman can't do anything that any other Kryptonian can't do.
