multiplayer only doesn't suck when you're with people you know and is best with just LAN in my opinion. online, people tend to follow a line of thought that takes fun out of the game. Also , I let games sit and get dusty a lot and the character expiration thingy is the reason I never liked D2 online.
now , blizz is making me buy maybe 4 copies of the game to play it with the people that propably won't play in a different set-up than LAN cause it will lose their interest, for the 4 hours a year I actually get to play games like D2 with them.
I'd rather wait till they messed up D3 good and bring it out free (piracy yaharr) with LAN options. cuase really .. they are asking to much if they expect me to enjoy it like that.
on another note. Auction house ? I haven't kept track but doesn't that mean that people won't have to work for a strong character and can simply buy anything they need to have their character be ? o.0 I liked the UBER idea better. maybe even make specific rare items untradable :p it would add way more to the value of the achievements ...

but yes. if I can't LAN with 1 copy , with or without their approval. I say shove a copy up each of their ...
and I don't like to be 'monitered' 24/7 while playing a game I could well enjoy well without.

On its own no but it's certainly a contributing factor as to why it's currently crossed of my want list. I may only reconsider if some of the things change or I might think about it when it lowers in price and then goes on sale.

im not buying the game. i liked playing diablo 1 and 2 singleplayer a lot more than I ever did online or over a network.

theres something about beating the game on your own that gives you those epic sunglasses moments :p

i hated online play for diablo. it just doesnt work.

if this is where PC gaming is headed then I'm jumping ship
That's where Blizzard gaming is heading, for sure. PC gaming, not yet.

If you don't have an internet connection in 2011, there is no hope for you.

This is not a problem for 99% of the people in the developed world.

Everyone here obviously has an internet connection. So why all the drama?
Hint: having an Internet connection doesn't mean having a good and especially not a reliable Internet connection.
Hint number two: For a lot of people, their home is the only place where they have an Internet connection.

seriously?! 68% (as of now) are letting something as small as no offline play, be a deal breaker...why?
Read the fucking comments, would you please? People don't just vote and stay silent.
i know (I'm still getting deus ex for PC even though I could have gon PS3)

its annoys me where people are like "but EVERYONE has internet, whats the problem?"

the problem is games might be heading in that direction at the speed of light, but the internet itself hasnt caught up

gettting a decent internet, (in both speed AND download limits..the real kicker) is actually harder in some areas that people realise, ALSO as I read in some parts of America

its not reasonalbe to be able to expect this of everyone untill internet at a viable level is more easyly availible (which is why cloud game hasnt quite caught on yet) but people with 150gb a month broadband that never drops out just dont get...and therefore just dont care

Honestly it seems stupid, but things have changed since D2 was out so I kind of expected this to happen. But with the new auction house feature that let's you buy and sell things for real money internet use is a must. It's a single player game for sure, but there'll probably be a lot of stuff you can access with having your internet connection. Not a deal breaker, but I don't know if I'm gonna drop 60$ on it. But you can be happy to know your not gonna have to pay 15$ a month on a Blizzard game, am I right!? No, just me?

A single feature is not the issue, it's the general attitude of "fuck the customer we do what we want", well then I wont go near it.

And the ever so entertaining counterpoint of "but fucking the customer is the industry standard now, why not just take it up your bum"

My reasoning for not buying it is the Real Money AH and no mods. Also that you can legit buy characters...

No, because I don't usually play games in the middle of the desert so I'm always going to have an internet connection available.

Honestly if you played D2 alone then you're just chopping off your leg to prove you can to an empty room. (There really isn't a reason to play online unless you don't have an internet connection). The debate of weather online connection expectations are outpacing the actual spread of the internet is an issue for people to debate on another topic though. (on a side note, I think torchlight was crippled by a lack of online and D3 will also be crippled if not played online).
That's a matter of opinion. Multiplayer on D2 had drawbacks that didn't apply on single player like:

Lag (it was horrendous during d2, and it's still going to be there, although not as badly, for d3)
An online gaming community which is awful (just like any other online game)
Hackers
PK griefing (TPPKing on hardcore mode especially)
Questing problems (You cannot complete this quest in this game. You must join another game or make your own)
And probably more that I can't think of right now.

And just because some of these won't apply to diablo 3, I am SURE that there will be other problems to replace them.

Some people don't mind that and prefer online multiplayer. But some people don't like these things so they prefer single player.

Me personally, I could never play diablo 2 online unless I was doing it with my brother or friends.

"Everything now is online and that's the future! I play online and if you don't play online you're an idiot!"

I am SICK of hearing this argument. I'm sorry, I dont want to be forced to play with morons like you. I don't play with my friends very often either. I prefer to simply play alone. If you think I'm stupid for liking a private gaming session, then you're an idiot as well for believing that Blizzard is justified for taking it away because, "it's the future."

If this is the future, gaming is, to put it simply, f**ked.

my mother is in her late 40's never played online has always played the diablo games likely has more hours in it than me now has to play online and she doest want to.
to say it will be crippled if it includeds a single player is foolish.
not everyone has decent internet not everyone can afford it and some who can dont want to play with dumb ass's who run around with pick up scrips stealing all the decent stuff, greifing and as anyone who has played diablo 2 online the spam bots and dont think that diablo 3 will be free of these things it wont take them long to beat the coding.

people should have the choice

Let's take a look at that sarcasm locator.. yep, it needs to be replaced. It won't cost ya, but there's no guarantee it'll work either. =)

I'm still buying, but it is quite a shitty move. I can see why they're doing it, which is probably to make the auction and regular trading unaffected by glitching and duping. If there was an offline-mode, many people would just dupe there and it would take something away from the genuine and hopefully dupe-free online-play. People would get the items and get OP quickly and not care about doing it the honest way, which would diminish the value of the auction greatly, since the demand would be much less.

I'm not a fan of the auction though, but I get that they're tired of the "black market" and want to legalize and control it instead. Not going to spend real money on items myself, but it doesn't really affect me that others will, I'll mostly play alone and with friends.

The poll is probably messed up by now..
The title is:
"Is Diablo 3's no offline play feature really a dealbreaker?"
So people will most likely just hit "no", as in "no, its not a deal breaker"
I hit "yes" since the Poll title is:"Are you still going to be buying Diablo 3?"
So I said "Yes, Ill still buy it".
But others will read:"Yes,its a deal breaker".

I though I made this clear with StarCraft 2.
No LAN, no buy.
But Blizzard doesn't care.

No problem, just spend that money elsewhere. Damn shame, could have been a good game.
Dumbing down of gameplay, auction house, no off-line, no mods. The list only seems to be getting bigger.

Did not vote. Thread name/pool mismatch. But to answer: Yes, it's a dealbraker. And, I'm not sure whether I'll buy it or not. Usually wait for some gameplay videos, reviews etc.
