Poll: Is everyone really rascist?

I here a lot of theories about human interaction. One that I hear a lot states that every person is inherently racist, or biased towards their own race, even if just a little bit.

My question to the Escapist is:

Do you believe this theory?

Personally, I do not. I think there are many people that truly do not care about race.

OT: I really don't know. personally I'm not a die hard supremacist (I'm mixed afterall) but I do like to poke fun at stereotypes.

I am a little. Not in a hateful way, I just distinguish more. For example just until 6 months ago I had never even properly spoken to a black person, so I tend to notice, if ya know what I mean. That kind of thing cant help but have an effect.

I doubt that made any sense at all.

Personally, I do not. I think there are many people that truly do not care about race.

It does not matter if you care about race or not, unconsious biases will happen.

Edit: I don't like your poll. Is everyone really racist? No. That,however, does not negate the fact of unconscious bias.

I dont think everyone is racist, I DO think that everyone stereotypes other people. I think it really comes down to how you define being racist. I've heard it defined in ways that makes everyone a racist no matter what and definitions that make almost no one racist.

I'm not but I've been raised among a very ethnically diverse family and don't think I quite grasped the concept of racism until I was a teenager. Still most of my friends are to some degree racist mostly against immigrants, even if its just on some very minor level, its quite worrying as many are incredibly intelligent people and yet still display such traits. Its mostly some effect of socialisation whereby you connect more with the people your the most closely linked to and will always display some level of dislike from people outside your culture/race.

No. I'm not racist. I honestly don't care what colour your skin is. It is true that a lot of people stereotype far too often though, and not just based on race. Some people will try and stereotype based on anything and everything: age, sex, gender, race, nationality, sexuality, religion etc just so they don't have to think too hard.

humans do not like those who are in anyway different then them. The question is that instinct or learnt behavior is a difficult question. Most humans have some sort of bias towards a group naturally. And trust me at one point or another you have been racist i can guarantee it, it really is human nature.

As previous posters have said, listen to "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" from the Avenue Q musical. I find it to be pretty spot on.

I know I'm a little racist, but not maliciously so. I do get annoyed by people of different races literally doing things that they are stereotyped to do (Asians driving poorly, African Americans being loud), and yet its me that's racist for simply pointing out the fact.
