It's been going downhill since season 3.
Southpark has been going downhill since season 6.
And The Simpsons have been going downhill since season 13.

You give season 12 and 13 a lot of credit, I'd say the simpsons started to go downhill after season 11.

No, Family Guy is not going downhill, it's at the bottom of the other side. It's been going downhill ever since it got put back on the air.
This is basically my view on it too. The first three seasons are much more clever and satirical than anything they've done since they got back on the air. Dan Povenmire's departure is a big part of the change. Things went from sometimes crass but usually kind of silly and witty, to just being about gross-out gags and stupid Conway Twitty.

It's been about 2 years since I've watched a Family Guy episode. After the Southpark episode that made fun of them, I could never get past how awful the show really was. I don't know if I can say the same about seasons 1-4, as I still find those funny, but as that picture above shows, the characters have changed to be so one-dimensional.

Southpark is falling into the same hole, but they are doing it a lot more slowly, so I can tolerate it a little more. Also, none of the cast plays the retard in Southpark, so it doesn't seem like they are running out of ideas as fast. Personally, I'd love to see Southpark canceled and have them move to weekly shorts over the internet like Yahtzee. I think Southpark can still thrive in that form.

And some one mentioned American Dad. HELL YES! It seems like the moment Family Guy started getting dry and retarded, American Dad started getting better and better until it was awesome. I have a feeling like it's reached its peak though, and I kinda wish that the recent rapture episode was the series finale. Kill it while it's still fresh so we don't have to remember the crap that follows.

I enjoy Family Guy. I'll admit some episodes are pretty bad, but overall I really like the show, both the older stuff and the more recent.

Heh...I was just on a thread discussing things that make you feel old, and this is another one. I clearly remember when Family Guy came out like it was recently, yet that was over ten years ago.

Anyway, no, I still like the show. If anything, I think it's improved. Although there are some differences that I noticed after it was canceled, and this picture sums them up.

That picture pretty much sums it all up nicely. The flanderization of their characters has only hurt the show. Herbert the pedophile was funny in "To Live and Die in Dixie" from the 3rd season, but now he's just another running gag that has gotten less and less about implied humor and is basically an anvil to the head. Peter went from being kind of a stupid but generally kind hearted to just an ass. Stewie and Brian have gotten it the worst though. Stewie was awesome when he was the ambiguously gay megalomaniac baby who is trying to kill his mother and now he's just a string of gay jokes. Brian was kind of the straight man in all things with a dry sense of humor who had a drinking problem, but now he's basically just a mouthpiece for spouting political rhetoric. Bleah.

Yeah. Family Guy used to be a rather entertaining show. Nothing standout, but nothing bad either. I've seen some of the newer episodes and I literally had to fight the urge to throw my remote at my TV it was so bad.

I think in this last season its picked back up from a few season's of crap, but i dont like how they are resorting to extreme violence so much for laughs now, granted, its funny, but just kind of cheap.

You can't go downhill when your very nature starts you at the bottom and determinedly keeps you there as a selling point.

The way I see it, the first 5 seasons were good, 6 was fairly crap, 7 was ok, and 8 is good again.

I thought all the new stuff was bad too, until I watched all of seasons 7-8, and was laughing pretty consistently the whole time.

Most people would say that it's been going down hill for the last five years or since the beginning, but I dont' know, it's not that bad.
